Eating the World's Best Paella in SPAIN

I traveled to the birthplace of paella, Valencia, in search of the best paella in Spain. It was amazing to get up close in the kitchens and see how this intricate rice dish is prepared traditionally.

That burnt sticky rice at the bottom is literally the best part of a Paella. In order to cook a decent homemade Paella you will need good homemade broth (seafood is my favourite) and a special rice variety called “bomba” in Spain. If you not use this variety of rice the Paella will be a failure such as trying to make Sushi with another type of rice. My mum use just prawns to cook the broth ( very important to use the prawns heads for richness) starting with tiny little pieces of red and green pepper and garlic frying in the pan with a little bit of olive oil, later on just add the correct amount of rice and styr a little just to add the broth, mussels, calamari and prawns or any other type of seafood or even fish that you like. Another essential ingredient is saffron, but has to be natural pure saffron witch is quite an expensive ingredient. Just at the end of the cooking process turn the heat to the max for about 1 minute or so to create that crusty burnt layer at the bottom. Trust me in this just use bomba rice😂

I spent 2 months in Valencia after Hurricane Katrina. The best food we had was at a friend's birthday party. They had a paella pan that was about 4 feet in diameter. Rabbit was the feature of that particular family's recipe.

Let's agree to differ: Paella actually comes from Pilau, introduced by the Arabs (Moors) when they introduced rice to this region of present day Spain which they ruled for 300 years. Also known in Turkey as Pilaf with many variations along the Silk Route , Middle East, North Africa and the Swahili coast.

Hi! Spaniard here 😄 Actually Arabs introduced the cultivation of rice (which is a key element in the creation of paella of course!) but the recipe originated years after the Arabs left the country, and its origin derives from the mixture of vegetables and produce poor working-class people from the Valencia region could find and harvest in their land. The origin of the word "paella" comes from the Valencian language, meaning "frying pan", which in turn comes from the Latin word "patella" which also meant frying pan. So yeah the influence of Arab cuisine during the period in which they colonized Spain is undeniable - they introduced things like rice and several vegetables and spices. Those ingredients influenced Spanish cuisine and some of those ingredients became key elements of the paella, but the word paella didn't come from any Arab language, and the recipe itself didn't come from them either!

First part of the video was going well, until you decided to go to Barcelona, where paella isn't from, to attempt to cook a paella with a foreigner and adding capsicum, onion and was that peppers as well!!!??? Jesus! You obviously didn't pay attention in Valencia to how it's made and the ingredients. I'm sure what you ate was lovely but that's NOT paella. Note that there a lots of rice dishes in Valencia, but only paella valenciana the de marisco (seafood) are called paella - everything else, is called arroz co, or arroz al (translates into "rice with")
