BBQ Eel. I think there was rice, small soup, pickled veggies, something else. Was back in the mid 1970s. But now you must buy in advance. Olden days you got from the train. Green tea. But those Bullet trains are so graceful & sleek compared to the time of the 1970s.

As someone who has to drive around for work all day I would LOVE it if we could get self-heating bento meals in the United States. I've seen self-heating military MREs but it's a great idea to use that same principle for ordinary lunches. And I don't think I could have eaten more than one of those larger meals, much less five bento meals. Well done!

You have an amazing healthy apetite, EJ! I lost count of the amount of bento boxes you managed to consume😅 ...I live on the coast, in the south of England, 🇬🇧 UK, and fish plays a big part of my diet. Mackerel and Herring eaten raw, smoked or pickled, Pilchards (also known as Sardines) and Cod are a few of my favourites...I really liked your Bento food Odyssey on the shinkansen Nozomi. Thank you once again for a fantastic video. Thanks for sharing it with us and let us enjoy the views of the beautiful country that is Japan. Once i saved up enough money i will definitely go for a long Japan holiday, as i do like the culture and the friendly people. To reply on your question in the video - i love seafood. I am from the Netherlands, so seafood is definitely something i am familiar with, as the Netherlands has a seaside in the Western part of our country. Fish like cod, plaice, mackerel, herring, but also crab and shrimp are wildly available in our country. One dish we are known for is salted herring with onions, which nobody foreign seems to like. But here it's a staple and many people like it. It's freshly caught herring, cleaned and then put them in salt to reserve them. ''Soused herring'' for you to look up if you want to see what that is. I really like your video's, keep on filming and i am already looking forward to the next one. Much love 🙂

As for the chanko meal, I've heard of that before! Max Miller on the Tasting History channel shows how to make it. It's here on KZread. So cool that you can get it premade like that, and self heating! In the early 2000s, there was product line of self heating canned coffee, but they don't sell them here anymore. They were perfect for cold Wisconsin winters. I wish we had more self heating foods here. Thank you for the cool video!

I stumbled onto your videos a year or so ago and I must say, I find them very relaxing to watch, as well as entertaining. You asked about the jelly in the bento box, if we have something similar. We do indeed have gelatin snacks/desserts which have actually been around a very long time, over 100 years. Of course back then, they were not shelf stable, nor did they come in many flavors. Now, a question for you. Are you a fan of the old Japanese monster movies, from the '50s and '60s, like Godzilla and Mothra and others of that genre? Any favorites?

Thank you for the video. Those were a lot of bentos. I don't know if I could have eaten that much... Least of all during so little time... I would very likely feel ill from all that food. About your question with seafood: Germany has only a relatively small part towards the ocean, so seafood is rather uncommon here. I have seen seafood in many animes and such and therefore wonder what it tastes like. So when I had the opportunity, I tried out sashimi, but it's not a taste I'm used to. And I didn't enjoy it back then, despite the quality. Maybe if I get used to it, it could become something I enjoy. But so far, it wasn't. I also wanted to try out tokoyaki for the same reason. But I don't know yet, if I would like it.
