Easy to Use Entire Closed Guard System
Спорт
This video I go through in my opinion the most simple and effective closed guard system you can use. Often in BJJ new students are taught techniques but they are not shown how they go together. This video I show an entire system that deals with every main response your opponent can have. Hope you like the video.

wow, this is incredible. I run into all 4 of these scenarios all the time. In fact, I think videos like this in the future would be great; "trouble shooting the most common _____"

Yeah they are the most common responses the guy can have for sure.
That is a complete closed guard attack system for beginners. But giving these with all possible scenarios and all counters to all possible responses and hand fights posture breaks all together is awesome. Thanks. I like the way how you formulized the any concept as a whole with all possible scenarios with so many leverage tricks and details as a system. You are some kind of a BJJ engineer :D

Thanks so much buddy. I have a degree in mathematics so I think that’s where the organized mine comes from. I would also say this is a great system for beginners but honestly it works at a very high level too, I have still used all this stuff s black belts.

@@JonThomasBJJ I am definitely seeing improvements in BJJ instruction from guys like you Jon. It's one thing to be able to do a thing ( most black belts ) and quite another to be able to communicate how to do it. It's notable that guys like you, Lachan Giles and others who seem to be taking instruction to the next level are highly educated. I guess Ryan Hall was one of the first ( engineering dropout ) and John Danaher too but his style is so pretentious as to be a complete turn off for me ( I would use the Japanese term for "turn off" if I knew it ).
Still injured still watching
This is exactly the kind of content I needed to really holistically understand the entire "closed guard game" - thank you Jon Thomas.
I just discovered your channel the other day and have been really impressed by the way you break things down into a concise and easy to remember format. I think the sign of a good teacher is how to well the students are able to absorb and apply the lessons. Keeping that in mind, these are definitely some of the best BJJ instructionals I've seen. Thank you Jon. 🙏
That overhook lapel grip is my favorite. Such great control with so many options.
Thanks Prof. Jon. Love the concepts. Thats easier to remember than the sweeps and subs.
This is amazing! I’d love the same kinda video for other positions.
This is a great video, i've watched it several times over the last few months but never got around to commenting, brilliant stuff
Perfect breakdown. Thank you for these so helpful.
I've struggled with these scenarios a lot. Really informative video, thanks!
amazing , You are great teacher
Whoa. This is almost exactly my whole bottom game but detailed so succinctly it's like a work of art. Bravo 👏 👏 👏
wow dude this is fantastic. your instruction is very cogent and answers questions that I didn't even know I had
This is EXACTLY what I needed as a white belt

Love this video and system, also your uke was staring into my soul at the end there.
This is such high quality content
Great guard breakdown and effective attack system.
Thank you so much, this video earned me my third stripe on my white belt! Suddenly my closed guard game is way more clear to me. I would love similar videos for mount, back mount and side mount🙏
This is great, will be re- watching many times:)👍
Beautiful details! Great content!
Outstanding 🙌🏼- I like the way you explain things it makes it easier to understand. Keep it coming.
This whole video is my game. I've never put the finger on what my game is...but this is it. I can't hardly hit any of it, but this is what I try for with my primary game. Gotta keep working it.
Excellent, as usual! Thanks!
I have watched this video a few times. Great information that has been helpful along with my training.
That’s my favourite BJJ video on KZread. Thank you so much
This is gold, thanks!
I have my first tournament in 2 days. Thank you for the guidance and the help you’ve provided with me in so many ways.
Great way to start off the New Year! Thank you. Generational talent.

this was a great one! Thank you! im only 140lbs and 5'4" so im constantly pushed to my back. Developing a stronger guard has made a huge difference.
Great technical skills and an ability to effectively communicate, what amazing instruction!
Your videos are really good. The techniques work. The analysis and explanations are precise and useful. Your channel has improved my jujitsu. 👊🏻
Very helpful. Thank you.
Top content man , thanks for sharing!
Fantastic video. Thanks!
Beautiful stuff🙏🏼
Super helpful
This is such an amazing video, thanks!

Thanks so much! Showing how the positions connect is so important.
This is a great base system that can be added to and developed to start realising your game. You should think about a sweep system from here too. Then go to the mount and look at a system from there. Develop an attacking system and so on. Then drill and practise so that when you roll no matter where you end up you have a system to deal with the position and what you are trying to achieve. This lesson is way more valuable than most people will realise I imagine.
This is Gold! Thanks
I have a tournament coming up in January, I’m gonna work on this exact system for it. I’ve been using the grip breaks and breaking posture off of the top players posture control grips, but I’ve mainly been sweeping or progressing positions instead of finding submissions from the guard. Thank you
Keep putting out content like this!
You’re an amazing teacher man! Your videos have really(!) helped me understand these positions better so a big thank you! How would you adjust these for no-gi?
Very helpful video, thanks.
Still injured still watching thanks again
Could not agree more about your system being the winning ingredient and not just the individual techniques. As I always teach; "if you lost it, don't chase it, deal with what you have available"
Excellent guide thank you
Awsome! Thank you!
Excellent !!
This is what I have been trying to figure out myself blindly as a beginner. People love to show one technique here and there, but its hard to incorporate that into your existing knowledge base. This system based approach where what you do is based on your opponent is definitely the way to go
Great video
Really high quality material. Thank you for taking the time to put this together. You are quickly becoming one of my favorite BJJ content creators.

Lol this is everything I needed to see explained so well. Thank you so much
Great content, your very intelligent!
I like this content. The set ups, transitions, changing positions.. I do prefer to understand, not just to repeat.. keep it on!
Love your videos - just the right amount of detail for a relative noob to take these onboard and starting working with them. But not so much detail that my head explodes. Brilliant.

Yeah it’s hard to always get the right mix. Hard thing with teaching is I have to assume certain pre knowledge when making a video, so I always have to think of the target audience for that video.
Jon, thank you for the video sequence. I started BJJ a year ago with the wrong mindset. I tried learning too much too fast. I did not stay on one sequence long enough to understand much. The learning curve quickly discouraged me. I gave up and stopped training for 6 months. I have recently started back with a different mindset. If i can focus and learn one sequence every 2 weeks i will have 26 sequences at the end of 12 months. I have watched this video a hundred times over the last week. It was a lot to follow at first, but i have worked it for a solid week and it is becoming easier to work now. I look forward to starting the next sequence in a week or so once this one becomes second nature. Thank you for what you do.
Fantastic video thanks you 🤙🤙🤙
i love your explanations! thank you!

Coach Thomas, I'd like to ask u, It is worth to learn reverse kimura grip from closed guard or better to pay more attention to usual submissions like armbar, triange, omoplata? Btw I find its quite difficult to fight in close guard against heavier bigger people when they double push to armpits they can't open my guard, but I almost can't efficiently attack them either.
Great clip mate. Really like the logical sequencing. Sub'd.

It's taken me 4 years to get to the point where I'm starting to realise this - and that's with watching instructionals and training regularly. Man... I am SO not a natural at grappling!!! >_< Thanks Jon Thomas - this is JUST the kind of refresher I need before getting back to it this New Year.
Wow! Love ontario white belt

This was literally my private lesson a month or so ago lol...
Notes 1:09 break posture so one hand on floor; 1:24 immediately to overhook guard
I mean, this is very good and classic theory. Still hard to do with a bigger opponent that fights back. If I can go 2 on 1 and isolate one of your arms I'm standing up immediately. 😅 No fighting a losing battle 😋
My thing is I think he was a great buddy it’s like everything is in Close guard isn’t really close guard it’s actually a transition point to open guard attacks here
At my gym we teach "all the way down or all the way up", meaning that if you can't control your own posture in closed guard you should both adopt the arm pit grip and also bury your head in their chest. If the opponent adopted that position, would you just wait for them to sit back before pushing on the biceps and pummeling as in the video?
For the first one, I can get the arm trapped, but they usually then hold onto my belt with their free hand and i cant break the grip to get my leg out and over for the triangle. How do I defeat this belt grip?
When I break peoples posture, I had a wrestling guy put his head on my belly button and hide his hands kinda like under my butt almost trying to Khabib me. My most success has kinda been omoplatas but he outweights me and he so low on my legs its so much weight to crunch and bring his weight towards and up over myself I really have to work it. Any ideas?
❤❤
How can you stop the opponent from free the arm? I had a competition and the opponent grabbed my right sleeve and i could not go on, in the same time he slipped the arm away, but i was not on the side but on the front
Any time frame on when you plan to release your double sleeve system on your website?

Hey buddy probably within the next few months for sure.
Close guard has been really hard for me oddly enough because I have really long legs. It makes squats easy and powerful, but pulling my legs out, I have to be like 2 1/2 feet away from these people lol. I basically have to be in spider garden and get my legs out. Lmao
how rough is their white belt program when you come out with a blue belt and those ears? 😱
1:49 sometimes they will gift you this by pushing on your leg especially in white belt
