    Hi, does one simply use their HVAC fan? Can you regulate the temperature to deactivate the blower when the desired temperature is reached?

    Correct. Here is a wiring diagram that would operate the fan only unless the existing thermostat temperature was met. centralboiler.com/media/2586/adding-thermostat-central-boiler-outdoor-furnace-c120.pdf There are many other diagrams for different configurations on centralboiler.com.

    When a side-arm heat exchanger is installed on your water heater, it will use the outdoor furnace system water to heat your domestic water in the water heater. The outdoor furnace system water is a closed loop and never mixes with your domestic water. The outdoor furnace monitors the system water and efficiently burns wood as needed to keep the system water at 185 degrees F. Here's a diagram that might help: centralboiler.com/media/2611/install-central-boiler-forced-air-system-c110.pdf

    I’m wanting to put a LP boiler in my attached garage and put the heating coil with the copper pipe running inside my HVAC aluminum trunk line just a few feet and then run my Trane Tam 7 seven air handler on the lowest fan speed and then of course that would give me hot water heat throughout my whole house. The people that are going to install the boiler said this can be done and they’re hunting for the right size heating coil. Has anybody done this before? I’ve seen pictures of it. We would use our air handler Seer 18 heat pump just for AC in summer. Our electricity since that Biden got in the office has skyrocketed in our area so propane is now cheaper than electric.

    So in this set up, does the forced air system have the indoor burner also?

  • @centralboilerinc

    @centralboilerinc

    5 жыл бұрын

    If we understand your question correctly, the answer is yes. The forced air system contains your existing indoor propane/natural gas/fuel oil burner and the water-to-air heat exchanger is added. You can then have your existing burner set to kick on when you shut your outdoor furnace down or if you let your outdoor furnace run out of wood.

    How does this restrict the airflow for the AC in summer?

  • @centralboilerinc

    @centralboilerinc

    Restriction of air flow in the plenum is rare. For specific information on Central Boiler water-to-air heat exchangers, you can see the Hydronic Component Selection Guide that comes with each Central Boiler furnace. There is also information on measuring air flow in the Central Boiler Installation Guide.

    Can this be used with a 24/7 "ON" furnace fan, in a typical electric furnace? Is there any way to control the temp with a 24/7 "ON" fan?

  • @centralboilerinc

    Yes. A zone valve connected to a thermostat would allow heat through the coil when needed and would stop the flow once the set point was reached.

    I want to exchange all those heat going out via the furnace vent flue, to be captured outside (on the 4" vent to 6") the galvanized pipe or going thru an heat exchange like this and connect the exhaust back to vent out. Is this possible? I want to supply my water heater with captured hot water via this arrangement. ???

    The easiest way to use your Central Boiler outdoor furnace to heat domestic water is with a side-arm heat exchanger installed on your water heater. Here's an installation diagram: centralboiler.com/media/2611/install-central-boiler-forced-air-system-c110.pdf

    In the summer when its hot and AC is needed, how does the furnace cool off the house when the Boiler coil is producing heat for hot water?

  • @centralboilerinc

    @centralboilerinc

    4 жыл бұрын

    During summer, the hot water can be redirected so that it does not go through the coil. Or, if desired, the outdoor furnace can be shut down and the water heater can be switched back to use gas or electric.

    If an air conditioning coil is located in the plenum, the heat exchanger should be mounted between the fan and the air conditioning coil so the heat exchanger will not freeze when the air conditioner is being used. Does that answer your question?

    Could the coil be added to the return air side of the furnace?

  • @centralboilerinc

    It is best to put the coil on the hot side before the "A" coil, but putting one on the cold return, although not ideal, happens quite often and works fine.

    Does a heat exchanger have a direction of flow, does it matter what port is your inlet?

  • @centralboilerinc

    @centralboilerinc

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes, the direction of flow matters for the water-to-air heat exchanger. You can find details in your Furnace Installation Guide which is available on CentralBoiler.com/Support. Here's from page 18: For a single building water-to-air heat exchanger system with a domestic water heater, the direction of water flow must go from the hot outlet on the outdoor furnace to the lower side fitting of the domestic water heater exchanger, to the lower fitting of the heat exchanger in the plenum of the existing furnace, and then to the return port of the outdoor furnace.

    Hi, I have carrier air handler which has ac coil all the way on the bottom and blower on the top so my only option is to put hot water coil in returns before the ac coil..Is that going to be fine? Or there’s any other solution?

    I'm VERY new to all this, and I don't like the idea of using a water heat exchanger. Is there a system where a large tube (like 200mm - 8") is connected to an exterior furnace, and air is blown into the tube...to blow back out again after going through the heat of the furnace? Thanks.

    Water holds heat and enables the heat to be transferred across a cold outdoor environment. This isn't possible with air.

    What is the maximum air temperature you can get from this with 185 water temperature

  • @centralboilerinc

    @centralboilerinc

    9 ай бұрын

    Talk to your local dealer and ask for a Hydronic Component Selection Guide. It has charts for that. With 1,000 cfm air flow through the exchanger, entering air temperature of 60 degrees F, and the 185 degree F water flows at a rate of 7 gpm, the heated air temperature will be about 128.

    The more the fan is on, the more wood you burn. You can watch the water temp fall within seconds of activating the fan. Which does what? Open the draft. Which does what? Burn more wood. Plentum systems are by far the least efficient method of keeping comfy. In floor heat cement installed over 2" foam with a vapor barrier is the answer to both efficiency and comfort. The next best option is baseboard. But if you like cutting 25 pickup truckloads of wood per season, by all means, use the plentum heat exchanger. It's your funeral.

  • @centralboilerinc

    @centralboilerinc

    Plenum heat is the most used and most popular heat delivery system throughout the US, regardless if from an outdoor wood furnace, propane, electric or oil. It always comes down to the BTU required for the building being heated. A heavy heat load will draw water temps down faster requiring more wood burned to replace the required BTU. A well insulated low heat draw house will allow the outdoor furnace to rest for much longer periods of time, therefore burning less wood. In NW Minnesota, I burn just 5 ½ - 6 cord of wood per heating season in my Central Boiler Classic Edge through a forced air plenum coil. While floor heat is a nice warm even heat, keep in mind if you live in a climate where nights and mornings are cool but daytime hours get warm, that floor heat mass may continue to emit unwanted radiant heat and can make your home warmer than you would like. Also, if you want central air conditioning, you double your expense by needing to install ductwork for the AC, plus the cost of the in floor system install expense on new home builds.
