I believe one of the pics on my community tab has a case with black shelf liner. It looks great. Like you said, it's inexpensive so if you don't like it or it gets damaged, you can always change it. Thank you for this. I've been putting this off for awhile since the prices of everything went up and I'm tired of detolfs (not to mention it's not worth buying them since the price doubled). Got the shelf for a good price on sale ($65) and I'm in the process of securing Acrylic (have a family member who owns a cabinet making business and he has a supplier he worked with for decades) so I'm saving a good chunk of change. One thing I would LOVE (and I know it's probably a hassle) if you you took all these updates and made a single video with them inserted into the original so when I'm building it I don't have to jump between all three videos. But I can live with that since it's all so helpful. So thanks so much for all this!

Thanks for watching! The magnetic tape I use in the video is the strongest. I've tried others and they do not compare. In my first Livestream I mentioned super gluing the magnetic tape to the acrylic. I would definitely recommend doing that. I have not had any issues with the acrylic staying on the frame. It's been solid. magnets do not lose much strength over time.

Hi Costa, I’ve been following this project all the way from Australia and think you’ve done a great job with this display shelf! I’m not a very handy person, but I have been considering giving this a try as I currently have no where to house my tumblers. With this update, it seems like it takes out a lot of the steps for the back panels, is that right? The reduced steps are giving me a bit more confidence about giving this a go.

Awesome tips and videos! Could I ask if it would be easy/possible to use the pvc board on the sides instead of plexi? I almost never look at stuff from the side, and would like to have several stacked next to each other so no need to see into the one next door! Im planning on all black too, so I just thought it might cut down on reflections and maybe be a little stiffer for the sides. But having never worked with the pvc foam board I’m not even sure if it’s available in a big enough size for that? Thanks for any help you can give!

Thank you for watching and thanks for your question. There should be enough space in the back, between the shelf and the frame to fit the fiberboard or PVC sheet. For this video I used a 3mm PVC sheet. This is a bit more expensive but it is also more high end looking. It also comes in different colors. You can find this online by searching PVC sheets. Or if you want to try to find somebody near you, companies that sell acrylic sheets also sell the PVC sheets. I do a search for acrylic sheets near me and search each website that comes up. In my part 1 video of this build I used white fiberboard from Home Depot which is cheaper but you need to modify it.

Im confused about step 4. You removed the shelf but there was another shelf underneath it.

Hi! Thanks for watching. When you remove the shelf there isn't another shelf underneath. In part one of the garage shelf display case build, I show you how to cut panels to stick underneath the shelves so that you can hide the imperfections of the upholstery work that you do on the shelves. If you haven't seen part 1 of the display case build, I highly recommend it.

Honest question, why the faux leather?

Great question and thank you for watching! Honest answer, I was trying to make this case look as close to a Moducase as I could and Moducase uses faux white leather for their white interior cases. I do believe I use a higher quality faux leather than Moducase. The beauty of this build is you can make the interior however you like. I have another garage shelf where I made one section black and the other two, white. For the black section, I use upholstery grade black velvet and black PVC foam sheets.

@@PopCultureLivingRoom I guess my question is, other than aesthetics What other fabrics/materials would you recommend for a case like this?

@@webjaker For the shelves if you go with fabric I would go with an upholstery grade fabric. If you want a black interior, I recommend upholstery grade velvet. If you want to bypass fabric, you could always paint the shelf. Some of the people that have made this display, spray painted the shelves. You can check out some finished cases from the community on my Instagram. They may give you some ideas.

Hey Costa currently in build mode, looking at expanded PVC. Did you buy each piece for $66. That's substantially more then the fiber board. So I just want to get some clarification. Thanks and Great videos. Game changers

Thank you so much for watching! Yes PVC is more expensive than the fiberboard. When I bought my PVC sheets they were $40 for a full sheet of white or $50 for black and the fiberboard was $20 a sheet. I moved up to the PVC because it is easier to work with and you don't have to make a vinyl border to cover the edges. What places are you looking at to get the PVC sheets? I use a place in my neighborhood that specializes in acrylics and plastics. If you have a place like that near you, they will be much cheaper than a place like Home Depot or Lowe's or even Amazon. I hope this helps. If you need help finding a place for plastics let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Why would you even cut the back panels at all? Why not just slide or tape thr entire piece to the back.

The reason why I cut my back panels is to hide the frame. I hate the way the frame looks. I wanted an elevated look and appearance and wanted to mimic the look and feel of a moducase. The way I have my case you can't tell that it was a garage shelf. I am not a fan of putting one big piece on the back but that's the beauty of this build, you can do what you want. And I love that. I love seeing other people's choices for their cases. There is no wrong way my friend. Thank you so much for watching!
