I thought it was an outstanding video to begin with, but what really impressed me was that this man took the time to answer all of the questions below. Big thumbs up. Not a hugely important question here, but do you have any idea roughly how much time assembly should take with the wood cut already for someone who is not mechanically inclined?

We would have finished them in maybe 1 hour... but we ran about 10 short of screws on each tank ... (totaling 20). We are so proud. Thank you and God Bless you.

I do have a question! How would you go about adding a shelf and some plywood doors/covering the frame? Could you simply cut the plywood to size and screw them in? (Coverings) And for the Shelf, would you need 2x4 frame for them or could you use more plywood?

  • @TrafishAquatics

Your earlier stand build video made me want to build a riser/drawer to put under my 20 long and 10 gal tanks which are about the same height. They're on a sturdy wood credenza now, which is kind of low, and even sitting you don't get the full picture, hence my desire to build a riser for them and incorporate drawers, just because, you know, DRAWERS. 1:55 that’s funny. I’ve tried to get some 2x4’s cut at Home Depot and lowes. At both places they completely ignored me. I remember waiting around for someone to come help me for near an hour at the home depot. I went to the cashier and told her I needed assistance there. She called for assistance at wood cutting, and then I ended up waiting another 30 minutes until I stopped an employee. He told me “can’t you see they’re all busy right now”. And I left. Similar experience at lowes

Same story, I went to both of those locations and they refused to make any cuts to length, even when offered money. Unfortunately these hardware stores are full of employees who only stay for ~6 weeks before quitting, nobody wants to be there which I understand completely, but it really affects the customer experience. I'm totally out of luck as no store in town would make the cuts for me.

If you get more than 1 snake you can get a snake rack system like 6 high and each rack you pull out is big enough for a 6ft boa. I like those better than a reptile tank for a snake. Uses less space in the room unless your fine with a reptile tank.

Great video, everything was clearly explained and easy to follow. I wanted to ask, if you are building a stand that you want to have a sump in, what would be required? Do you add an extra shelf in the middle? Can you get some thick plywood and put it across some beams across the bottom? Thanks!

Yep and that 8,000 lb is at the point of failure since a vertical 2x4 can hold 1,000 lb at failure point So I would figure the safety rating on this would be about half of that at 4,000 lb, which is still about the weight of a car 😆

  • @TrafishAquatics

Essentially you would build it the same way but add vertical braces every two feet across the front and back as well as cross braces every two feet on the top and bottom shelves of the stand, general construction code has two by fours rated at a thousand pounds at the point of failure for each vertical 2x4

I do have a question, our stand is for a 48 inches long 55 gallon tank, we didn’t add a middle leg because it’s not over 4 feet, but do we need too???? I wish I could share a picture of the final results.
