*NEW* DIY AQUARIUM RACK | 2x4 Wood Rack for 40 gallons and Nano Tanks!!

Join this channel to get access to perks:
/ @ryowatanabee
I've decided to make a DIY 2x4 wood aquarium rack for the fish room. It's not a perfect job but I tried my best and put a lot of effort into it. Really happy with how it turned out and I can't wait to put some tanks on it.
Let me know what fish/aquariums you're interested in seeing and also what do you think about that final color? I really wanted either a light brown or a dark brown and decided to go dark at the end. I'm also not a huge fan of black painted aquarium stands because I find that it takes the beauty away from the wood 😅Just my opinion.
Thanks for watching, Ryo

also what i do when making stands like that is to use some wood glue where your screwing. just gives that extra hold.

I took a few years of a carpentry class a while back. I think it was a good idea screwing from the inside out. The screws above those being screwed in the opposite way will create a lock of sorts, and it will hold more weight. It is quite a bit more sturdy than if you screwed them all in the same direction. Great build btw, love the wood finish 👍

hahahaha that was my first thought. my first time at home depot, i gave the guy measurements, and he was off anywhere from 2" to 8" on every piece. one piece, he was even off by an entire foot. I stopped getting my wood cut at home depot.

The wood in your part of the world looks so much better than where I live. The lumber near me is all warped and full of knots. I can go through all the lumber that size at my local DIY store and maybe find 2 or 3 pieces as nice as any of those. Costs more here than it looks like it does there too!

For not using a square or a level you did fine building your first stand, plenty strong for the tanks you're planning on using. If you choose to build more in the future and want larger tanks try using 2x6 for your uprights, and notching the wood with a circular saw to fit the 2x4 horizontal pieces in the uprights. Cheaper solution for those wood plugs are dowels of the same diameter, glue in a lenght then cut it off flush with your finishing saw. Also keep those papers with your plans and other fish bits on them, get a folder or binder and label it aquarium- so if you ever want to reference plans later to duplicate what you have you can go right to the binder and find them. Trust me, after thirty years of stand, canopy, sump, lighting, etc. designs I have massed my own book of knowledge basically if you choose to go further in the hobby. Keep up the good work, see you in the next video!

Great job on the build, for nano tanks the stand is over engineered, but I always like to build that way aswell. Like with many things investing in good tools will help make life easier and last for many years. Therefore on that note an orbital sander or a detail sander with various grit types would def help. Once you use one, you will never go back to doing it by hand.

Best strength is when you nail or screw from both sides. I dislike you capping over the screws as life changes and I have had to move my racks a few times. Yours is smaller that mine but so much easier to move when you can take it apart. Capping over the screws though makes it look better.
