My buddies dad used to make this and he would take corn tortillas put them on the bbq pit and crisp them up and top it with some cheese and then would put that salsa on it and man was it good.

So I remember talking to a Mexican I worked with way back when. The gist of what I remember was him saying tortillas should be used the exact way you scooped that taco out of the pan. Not so much the bougie way we typically do it today. Is that true? Kinda true? I forgot about it because it was said in passing while we were hanging out but I just remembered it watching this video

Dry roast the piquins, then soak in water to soften, then add it and tomatos, onions...etc in the blender. Just the way I do it.

Try different things till you find what you like. Tomatoes and or tomatillos is pretty standard at most taco joints along with onion and garlic.

Man, one of my first trips to San Antonio, I went with my buddy to a cookout at his Dad’s, and Tio’s place. They were having me try all of the amazing food his family was making, and his Dad goes, “You want to try some of my Mexican berries?” I said, “Absolutely!” and he puts, about, 10 in my hand, and I put them all in my mouth. I was breathing fire for a half an hour. Chilé pequins are apparently “Mexican berries.” Haha They gave some Tequila to chase it down. Good. Times.

For those white folks watching, you can use a pestle and mortar just the same. It’s a smother surface though so it takes a lot longer to grind- imo makes the heat and flavors pack an extra punch. I got like 3 salsa recipes from an old lady I know who came from Yucatan/Campeche. Omg it blows the “family owned” house made restaurant salsa out of the water. I’ll just say it, about the restaurants. They make their salsa bland and sweet. It’s not supposed to be sweet and where is the heat?! Salt? Hello?? 😂
