    Wow! This is so much easier than most instructions I've seen. They have you save the RX frequency to the channel#, then after entering the offset info, hit * and then save the TX frequency to the same channel (re-enter the channel #). My only qualm so far is that you can't mod a channel (like add a CTCSS code) and resave it. You have to delete the channel and start all over...which means no Alpha channel name if you originally named the channel using the computer.

    Thanks so much for your video. There are a lot of people who have no idea what they are doing making videos about programing the BF-F8HP. They don't know what order to do things in, where to go in the menu. They cut away because they screwed something up and don't tell you what they did off camera to fix the screw up. Your instructions worked perfectly and you made it easy. THANKS!!! And to all the people who think they know what they are doing but don't, just stop making videos. As a matter of fact I'm banning you from making KZread videos.

    Yep like I use to do in servicing commercial radio gear in the field .... program with laptop with a set of files for each company / utility while the laptop is doing it's thing programming the replacement temporary radio while I'm driving down the road =) Everything is set and ready to swap out radios and do the next call the same way .... bring back the repairs to the shop and fix and return them when all done =) SO the same thing I do with the radios I can program with CHIRP / RIG PROGRAMMING software for different events and areas needed =) Files labeled for the area and event =)

    You are da man! I've programmed it manually once, but I couldn't do it without a cheat sheet. (So I keep a cheat sheet in the pouch with the radio...lol)

  • @TheSmokinApe

    @TheSmokinApe

    Thanks man, it’s a bit of a pita but if you have a system / process it really isn’t that bad. The biggest issue is not being able to add custom channel names.

  • @Ron_C

    @Ron_C

    5 жыл бұрын

    Yeah....you'd need a cheat sheet to match repeater with channels. I added a bunch of repeaters to my "feng" for my motorcycle trip, but didn't indicate where they were located...shameful....didn't use the radio.

  • @TheSmokinApe

    @TheSmokinApe

    5 жыл бұрын

    That is a pretty good use case for why custom names are important. I took a trip to the Jersey shore recently and pre-programmed for the destination not the journey. Another problem is the 128 channel limit.

  • @Ron_C

    @Ron_C

    5 жыл бұрын

    I don't find that channel limit an issue at all. I mean, 128 channels is quite a bit. I usually only program the repeaters that I think I might use and set them scan option on for them all. I can't imagine having to mess around with changing those on the fly. Definitely too many channels for me to scan. Just gotta face it...CHIRP is a lifesaver...so easy and convenient to build multiple "frequency profiles" and load them when needed....hell...just buy a few of the UV-5r's and label them...hahaha

  • @TheSmokinApe

    @TheSmokinApe

    5 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, Chirp is the way to go for sure. I typically try to leave an open bank of about 10 channels in the event something needs to be added on the fly... no way I would bulk program by hand.

    Thank you for showing this in plain English!!! It seems like every KZread video directs you to a website and I just can’t find this information. I know the basics but what I’m confused about... my understanding is it’s ok to listen RX not transmit TX... however I want to listen to the ISS and to my understanding you have to connect to a repeater. Now to do so you have to hit the PTT which would be transmitting correct? Idk, I just got this and I’m a little confused. Like I understood how to navigate the menu and new I needed an offset however wasn’t sure how I would (theoretically) hit a repeater and bounce off that if I was licensed and wanted to talk from say NY state to Colorado for example I have this GT-3TP Mark iii with this proprietary Radioddity antenna that doesn’t work for beans IMO. I just ordered a UV-5R and a couple antennas so we’ll see. I’m in western NY so I’m gonna try and find the ISS frequency... I know they’ll be overhead about 10:30pm so maybe I’ll get lucky and catch a broadcast Lol

    I’m a little slow sometimes and this is a perfect example. I discovered that the GT-5R protects you from yourself. You can’t write to an occupied channel! Go to Menu 28 first to clear the channel you want to change! Brilliant! That ensures you don’t accidentally change a channel you didn’t intend to change! Also, when you’re looking for a clear channel in Menu 27, you know what channels are available because they don’t have the ‘CH’ designations ahead of the Channel number! Brilliant! I bought the GT-5R on a lark not expecting to really like it but I now prefer this radio over the expensive HT’s I already own!

    Is it possible to receive on 154.750 and broadcast on 423.750? The reason I ask is that I ordered a module that was supposed to be SA828-V and the supplier sent SA828-U so it can't receive on the 154mghz channel.

    I did exactly like you said. If I stay on frequency it will transmit and receive with repeater sending signal. When I switch to channel mode, it saved, but does not offset. Stays on receive frequency when pushing in talk button. While on channel mode, I hit menu, go through all changes made, and all changes are correct except the offset. This shows all 000000's. Not sure what to do from here

    Don't you also have to go back to the VFO mode and save it again to the same channel to save the tranmit frequency? I'm playing with a different model and wondering how to turn the tone "on"? Maybe it doesn't matter if I hear it or not? hmmmm Great video as always.

    Very helpful video. If you save a repeater channel and want to go back to it later I would assume you select the VFO/MR to toggle from FREQ to CHAN mode and then just enter the desired channel? My radio only shows the UHF freqs on both the top/bottom in CHAN mode despite having programmed a few 2m repeaters. Without a band button, how do I toggle to VHF?

    I have two (2) Baofeng UV-5Rs. I have them set and programed identically the same in the menu. I also have them on the same frequency. When I transmit from Baofeng radio # 1 to Baofeng radio # 2 it works fine however when I try to transmit from Baofeng radio # 2 to Baofeng radio # 1, the Baofeng radio # 1 will not pick up the transmission from the other Baofeng radio #2. SO I cannot hear any signal/transmission from Baofeng radio # 1. Do you think there is something wrong with Baofeng radio # 1? The programming software are set to the same settings. I went through each of them one by one and all are the exact same. I had the volume turn up when I started this so its not an issue with the volume. I do know that when I transmit from Baofeng radio # 1 to Baofeng radio # 2 the red light comes on indicating that I am transmitting all while the green light comes on on the Baofeng radio # 2 when it receives the transmission from Baofeng radio # 1. However when I try to transmit from Baofeng radio # 2 to Baofeng radio # 1 there are no led lights (green or Red) showing on either one of Baofeng radio # 1 or Baofeng radio # 2.

    I've tried your method but it didn't work for my UV-5R radio. After toying around for a couple of minutes, I was finally able to set a repeater frequency into my unit. I had to enter the RX frequency first, save it onto a memory channel, exit, then enter the TX frequency, along with the T-CTCS tone, Shift and Offset. After saving the settings on the TX channel, and exiting out of the programming steps, my display showed the + and - above the repeater frequency. When I pressed on the PTT, the repeater acknowledged my signal, thus confirming the programming was set. I'm not sure why my HT had to be programmed this way seeing that yours is probably the same model. Maybe mine was manufactured from a different area/country???

How can I enter that frequency when the repeater's frequency is on the way? Will all my transmissions from then on will go through the repeater? Can I disable the repeater if I don't want to use it and then activate it again?
