Great video. My only complaint is that there was no pinned sad ham comment.😔
Best and clearest explanation. Finally it makes sense
I just picked up the GT5R. Got familiar with the menu by looking up and storing all the civil and law frequencies in my County. Used your suggested menu settings for scanning. Over those few days I scored my GMRS license. $35. Just followed this video exactly and succeeded tx/rx from the nearest open repeater to me. THANK YOU SO MUCH! (As well as T-CTS, there was a R-CTS and set that the same assuming T_up/R_dwn) Thanks again...
I used your instructions and was easily able to get on a repeater that uses both TX and RX tones. I don't think I could have figured this out without your help. I'm new to radio and GMRS. You've been my guide and guru. Thank you for your expertise and experience.
just passed my tech class I have a baogeng 8watt. I've been looking for this video. thanks. when my call sign comes I can't wait to program my radio. great video.
After watching a couple of other programming videos, your process is what worked for my radio. I figured it out after milling around with the HT and finally getting it programmed. Needless to say, I wished I'd found your video first before busting my brain, but I am glad that the method could be found here on YT. Thanks for a great video how-to!
You by far provide some of the best tutorials. Greatly appreciated.
I will be receiving my BaoFeng GT-5R .. Friday I promise you this video will help thank you for sharing the video and your knowledge GMRS ROCKS
Thank you so much! I was finally able to start programming! I had tried countless times unsuccessfully before your video!
Being essentially brand-new to using any type of programmable radio I came to this video because I wanted to be able to use my UV-5R at work where they have a fleet of non UV-5R radios. Those radios work on a frequency such as 453.250 but I found by watching other notarubicon videos and commenting my question that the reason I can't transmit to those radios is because they use a CTCSS tone which to some degree shields those radios from hearing my UV-5R. This video does show you how to set that CTCSS tone, sort-of, but being new I misunderstood the fact that CTCSS tones are preset tones that you can locate in the UV-5R instruction manual. Another way to express this is you don't type in a tone but rather choose a tone as one of the last steps in this video. This video is mostly about connecting to a repeater which I don't need and is only briefly about the CTCSS tone. On the chart in the UV-5R instruction manual it shows a table of 50 possible tones you can choose. I already knew I needed it to be 118.8 because I had used a frequency counter to determine what that tone was that comes from the work radios. I was confused by the video because I was expecting to type in 118.8 somewhere. In this video he chooses 67hz which I did not understand came from that preset list of 50 tones. For me, I needed to understand that tones were preset and I needed to continue to arrow up or down until I saw 118.8 as an option. Works perfectly now.
Thanks for your videos on the Baofeng handheld. I’m a brand new happy ham thanks to this information. I was able to join a net meeting on the Papa network in CA using one of their repeaters and your instructions. Gave my call sign and location and they replied back. Yay! I think you mentioned in another video about the importance of the Roger setting. I had my ON and the sad ham running the net “suggested” I turn it off. Thanks for making me laugh instead of feeling embarrassed.
This was incredibly helpful! Thank you! Recently got my technician license and I can't wait to hit the PTT for the first time!
@TheNotaRubicon Thank you for all the time you take to do your videos ! I have been using your videos for help ever since i started with GMRS this year, MUCH APPRECIATED!!!
I just went back and watched this video again. I was having trouble setting the offset tone because I thought I needed to select a menu item before entering the freq. I trusted your instructions and it WORKED. This was bothering me so much. I knew it had to be something simple. I just couldn’t wrap my head around the idea of just entering to offset tone without selecting a menu item first. Thanks, Randy! I’m saving this video for future reference.
This is an outstanding instructional video. Being new to this, I found it a bit confusing at first, until I followed along with you and BINGO, worked like a charm. I thank you for taking the time to do this. I have watched several of your videos and they are all good btw. Your sense of humor cracks me up.
1st BF-F8HP Instructional video that actually worked - Thanks!
New to the hobby and recently licensed. I have watched several videos which were pretty much may aswel have been in Greek. This vid was nice and straight forward in plain English. Thank you!
THANK YOU! Best explanation ever. Really appreciate your videos, especially this one. It's been very frustrating getting into the HAM community to learn more, even though I'm licensed. Thank you again!

My brief experience with ham is they are anal old men, rude in some cases. I have no time for cranky old guys and i am a old guy.

I'm just scared to ask cuz ik everyone gonna give me shit but all I wanna do is talk to my friends across town
Wow... that was easy. I did some research before I found this video... and there were approx 482 steps with many comments about which steps were wrong and which were out of order.. and frankly.. I was scared to even try. Then I watched this video and I can safely say... "First Try".
This video is awesome for Someone like myself that’s just getting into GMRS and learning about repeaters, I have a local one by me that I couldn’t connect to for the life of me, turns out all I missed was the offset, thank you for sharing

The very second you kerchunked your repeater, my repeater squawked on my Baofeng. Your signal took two years to get to me 😀
I've watched many of your videos and this is the one i really needed to find Update: Three days later and i Just spent 20 minutes trying my first repeater setup with your help........It worked perfectly :) Thank You very much

Would you had extra 1 set to talk? Or you could listen other frequency conversations?
Extremely helpful, especially with the printed instructions. Great job, Gracias!
Thank you, I just purchased a baofeng uv 5r via Amazon, I've been binging your videos Im not licensed just trying to learn some basics and gmrs
That's pretty simple, much better understanding than other videos, I just wish there are GMRS Repeaters in my area. I think the closest one is about 15 miles away from me.
A sincere thank you for a 100% awesome video. Many folk have tried to help me with this and we enter the offset and shift and save the channel but when switch to channel mode it doesn’t work. But when we did it following this (basically saving the two different frequencies to the same channel is DID work. You the man! Ps- still love your old videos. Not a fan of new ones. I understand why you prob shifted tones because of all the knuckleheads out there. But these early videos are VERY VERY informative and to the point. Great stuff
thank you again for everything you do, always so good and clear explaining things
Thank you your video made the most sense of anything I have come across yet I feel I'm on the right path . Def gotta take a class or atleast read some books but you sir did a great job of explaining thank you for your knowledge .
I have been following u for about a yr now, Because of your advice and knowledge my family now has 6 Baofeng UV-5Rs and 2 BF-F8HP radios and I'm waiting patiently for the FCC to give us r GMRS call sign [Its been 6 days since we submitted r application, no response yet :( ]. Thank u very much for the time and knowledge u have bestowed upon me and my family, u r very much appreciated by us.

Bro your teaching method very friendly
Very helpful! Thank you sir. I love your videos and your sense of humor.
I like this video! You patiently helped me figure out how to set up my UV5r! Wow. Thanks 🙏
tried this on an unlicked gt-5r and no go... ptt button = crickets, no orange no beep no nothing 🤷♂️ but was able to get it working using the boofwang sw just fine 🙂 it's all very quirky and having to go back and forth with the 2 programming sw's but I'm learning a ton... love your channel and i appreciate this type of content the most! 🙏🏻
IT WORKED! great content. you explain thing so well and in a way that can be understood.
I will be using this info to get into my local repeater when I get my uv5r
thank you so much for this video. i was able to follow it and connect to a repeater in my area. this was a first for me. good job!
Youve taught me a helluva lot. Excellent teacher!
awsome video going to try this later but very in detail best video i saw so far...
Thank you. Awesome video. Thanks for posting.
Glad I found your video. Appreciate it. Trying to get my GMRS license but I keep getting an error on the FCC website in CORES. It will not let me pay. Submitted a help request so hopefully I can get certified soon. Good information and thanks for being so detailed!
Love your vids, very helpful and informative!
Wow, this is a great video, so many people like to feel superior and leave out steps to make us feel inferior, so thanks.
Awesome! thank you for taking the time to help!

GOOD LORD FINALLY! Thank you!!!
Great Tutorial Video Randy @NotaRubicon Productions

I would love if you could revisit this specifically for GMRS frequencies.
Your the best sir .. #respect Thanks for sharing 👍🏻
Thankyou, you have been very helpful.
OMG thank you this video is awesome.
Great video! I have a UV 5r and 2 wouxun 805g. But I’m a complete newb. Would love to see you do a video on how to program the wouxun the same way you programmed the UV 5r.
Very helpful!! Thank you!!👍🏻
Very helpful video.
Thank you for your help video it was really helpful
Great tutorial
Awesome video
Hey great videos. Following the instructions I could not hear back in channel mode. In frequency mode it works. At first I thought I was too close like another comment.

this was the most helpful video i could find, i could not get tones programmed to save my ass, THANK YOU
Great Video Thank you!!
Very helpful!!
EXCELENT VIDEO
I appreciate all you do for the gmrs community. I purchased a kg-935g and joined our local gmrs club. I have the rx,tx,and a pl for our area repeater but at that point I am helpless. I've read the user's manual but it doesn't seem very clear to me.

I would suggest reaching out to the members of your local group. Thats one of the biggest reasons for hooking up with your locals, so they can help.
Thank you for all you do!! Your videos are very helpful. I am very new at this and just got my GMRS license this week. I have a question- Can I program a “HAM” repeater into my Baofeng UV-5G, and when I follow your instructions on this video and enter all I need to transmit and receive, can I transmit on this HAM repeater? Its the only repeater close to me. It’s all so very confusing, and I appreciate your help and time in answering this question. Thank you!!👍🏻👍🏻
Well done... programed 3 repeaters in mine in record time. Only confusing part is putting offset freq. .. I was thinking it it needed to be saved before going to next set. I guess not
Awesome info 😎 👏
Brilliant - thanks 😊 👍 🌟
I did everything as you said in this video, and it worked perfectly. Now for the stupid question 1: How do you actually use a repeater to contact another radio farther away? And the other radio should be on the same repeater channel, right? Which brings us to Stupid question 2: What then if it is just a Baofeng BF-888S?
Great video..Thanks
thank you for the help
Very informative,, thank you
Ive only been into this and had my first two radios for about a week, and have to say the more i learn from you, the more i realize how thorough you actually are when teacjing us this stuff, and i must be fkn retarded because its actually pretty simple stuff once you get the hang of it! Thanks for putting up with the millions of dumb questions Randy, you are a gentleman and a scholar brother!
Nice video. Im curious as to why you didn't set the receive tone? Thanks
Awesome. Thank you so much!!!
I would love for you to post some programing on CHIRP, if you would like to...
@NotaRubicon Productions if you add the channel offset in the menu options, do you have to save the channel frequency in the channel memory? For example, 462.575 is the output. If we just go in and set the offset at +5Mhz and save it to the channel memory, do we still have to save the 467.575 as well to the same channel?
Ahhhh this is what i’ve been looking for!!!! thanks. I suppose this is close to the 5g plus model
Randy, another great video. Regarding repeater codes could you please do the same type video for the Wouxun KG-905G? Thank you.
Thank you!!
Very helpful💚🇬🇧🌱👌
Great job! Does a flashing antenna icon (upper left-hand corner of the screen) indicate a weak signal?
Thanks
Thank You!!
Thanks very much! Just bought a couple of these radios. If I connect to a local repeater and someone else connects to theirs (say 100 miles away) is there any hope we could communicate? Do the repeaters "daisy chain"? Great videos.
Thank you!
Nicely done. Please do a USB cable to Baofeng programming tutorial. Have bought 2 cables, tried on two Windows 10 computers, downloaded driver fix software, still no sucess. Thanks. Mike w3pdr
Brilliant
Great videos. Love my UV-5R’s and I have some 905’s coming with a bunch of other stuff. The GRMS repeaters in my area of Chico Ca mostly use DCS codes. I’ve followed your video, the By Two Way Radios instructions and a bunch of other videos. I can hit a CTSS coded repeater but not DCS repeaters. HELP!
Hi there - thanks very much - great video - cleared up a few unknowns - cheers :¬)
that helped me, thanks WRWB 858
