this video is so valuable!! thank you so much :D
Great video, thank you very much !
Great video. Can't wait to try this. Please show some prints reflecting the different scan settings.
Great walkthrough of the process. Well done Apple! Thanks for sharing your experience with all of us 🙂

Great, short and precise intro! And an impressive piece of software. One could add to your quick-and-dirty procedure, that the lighting in the example creates dark and light areas in the scanned texture, which would not be optimal for taking it further in a 3D program. But a 3D-printer doesn't care about that, since it normally is grey resin anyway. A cloudy day outdors actually works the best, since the clouds work as a big polaroid-filter distributing the light evenly. Shiny object also are problematic. We have yet to see a 'de-shiny-fy' algoritm that can remove this. Another simple trick is to use some kind of turntable. You can invent a totally primitive one with a round piece of hard material pinned to another one underneath. You can then divide it into eg. 12 og 16 or more, put your camera on a tripod or just hold it, turn-and-click in two levels, one from the side and one from slightly above. In this way you will avoid the shadow-light side of the object. Thank you 🙂
You've given me a reason to consider buying a MBA. Obviously Apple has plans for this with their future AR/VR hardware.
great video, so helpful thank you!

Can you give me the name of the N Cubed software you have installed on your Mac ? I never could get the name of it
Need something like this for PC
would've been interesting to see the quality of the final mesh. scans always look decent with textures but for 3d printing its the mesh that counts.
@segments2156
Жыл бұрын
from what we saw in the last seconds, the quality is probably not very great, i suspect that the mesh shown on the miniature is the mesh he 3d printed on the first place.

exactly, loooool...3D model in 3 minutes, well...
Can you manipulate the 3D image once you have uploaded it to the 3D software, such as adding bits or removing bits
Sir, this is the best quality solution for obtaining a 3D model from images! Thank you so much for sharing such useful information on this topic! Now all that remains is to figure out how to launch PhotoCatch on Windows.) On my own behalf, I would like to suggest that you continue to cover the topic of obtaining 3D models from images using artificial intelligence and different web services and programs.
Thank you.
thanks for the video - are you able to show us how to join two products together ? I would like to do a 3d scan and join it to a CAD
Any idea if this would work in a 'mapping' situation? I want to use DroneLink to capture images(mission planning) of a construction site and make a 3D map. Also, can it stitch together a 2D flat image? Example: Say 100 images, shot straight down, cover an area of land 100' X 100'...does this program stitch these together as a 2D flat square image? Thank you and I did subscribe. FYI...I too have a M1 Mac so that's why I'm asking.

I am wondering the same thing too about taking pictures of a building manually with drone and then using photocatch app. I think I will try it this weekend. Thanks for the tutorial by the way.

Did you have good results? @@andregrizzle2287
can you use a 2017 mac for 3d modeling?
can it be used with large objects such as buildings or structure?
Very helpful I can see a lot of functional prints coming out of this. How about making some videos on 3d modeling integrating photogrammetry.

Great suggestion! Absolutely something I will talk about more. I have a few videos already on my channel that talk about this but I have to add more to the post-processing steps to explain them in depth.

Can you do the same thing if the subject is moving rather than the camera. For example...I need a 3d model of a person, but he is over something like zoom or streaming video. Can I still extract the 3d model or does the software need background elements as reference points?
@Crosslink3D

You may be able to make a 3d model from a person from a video call if you record them while they are turning their head from left to right. Or put them on an office chair and have them do a full rotation with the chair while you record them. That's worth trying out actually for a new vid :-)
Do you have a tutorial for Win Users?
Can you then print them after you have converted the photo
Thanks, I was banging my head against a wall trying to run Reality Capture on a Mac until I found this video!
I have mac Os Monterey 12.7.3 and photo catch shows me that my mac does not support onn device processing. any idea why?
I am getting into 3d printing because as a sculptor people are wanting copies of my sculpts...I have the new FLASHFORGE ADVENTURER 3 COMING...Is that going to be enough for me to accomplish my new business venture?

It’s a good printer to start with. Check out my latest video, I did recap a few things there and there is also links to profiles for CURA and PrusaSlicer in that video!
Thanks for the video. The app is not free anymore, they don't give you textures, but when you create the model, if you want to get textures you have to pay.
Is this also useable for capturing rooms or buildings instead of objects?

I did not try yet but good point to test out asap!
I used PhotoCatch to photogrammetize my 1/43rd scale car. The output is USDZ. What’s the workflow to edit/modify this file, then ready it for 3d printing? I only have an iPad. My desktop computer sparked out.

you'll need the obj file for slicing even if you want to do it in the cloud (for example with crealitycloud). usdz is not supported for printing. Found this on reddit: www.reddit.com/r/augmentedreality/comments/o88kgw/anyone_know_how_to_convert_usdz_to_obj_or_3ds_file/

@@Crosslink3D What about STEP or STL? Is OBJ the only filetype that Slicer knows?
Is there any photogrammetry app available on the Windows side of things?
@Crosslink3D

I’d recommend taking a look at Meshroom-CL, works with NVIDIA and AMD graphics
Apple iPhone could use to “ scan” image then send .obj file to windows computer. Would that work?
@Crosslink3D

There is apps that can do that using the depth scanner on the iPhone and alternatively the Face ID scanner. I made some videos about this already but I need to make an updated version. A lot of things have been improved since the last time I looked at this.

What is the easiest way to edit 3D Models? Without learning complicated software
I'm trying to 3d capture an rc car body hopefully this works
Impressive, don't have Apple equipment though
I personally do not buy Apple products as I really do not like Apple much at all. I have only ever thought of getting one for maybe some video editing or other software related to animation, cgi, & 3D modeling. So this app here I would add to that list and it possibly could get me to buy a cheap Apple laptop just so I could use this one photogrammetry app. It'd be nice and more preferable if Windows had a similar app though.
@Crosslink3D

Fair enough! I think the PC equipment I had to purchase for the same result did not yet justify. It might be in the end the more professional setup but I see Apple has an audience that is in the creative space and photographers could easily extend their portfolio with this as an additional service to take product pictures.
Will it work with an iPad?

What spec is the laptop

Lowest spec Macbook Air M1, 8 GB RAM

You think I could capture my car and customize it virtually? 😅 As if I was changing the paint colors in Gran Turismo or NFS.
