I was able to create some more flash cards that will help quickly interpret earned value questions without trying to do a whole bunch of mathematical calculation. Fantastic video!

Thank you Aileen this is an excellent perspective on Earned Value Analysis and thinking simplistically for no math questions. Really reading the questions and asking yourself the questions; "what are we talking about here, schedule or cost?" etc. So thank you again.

I really expect that most of your earned value questions on this exam will include no math. We need to really understand earned value.... not memorize equations.

Hi Aileen, thank you for this wonderful video! I have a question though. At 7:00 you said that this sentence "You have spent $ 500 more than you planned to spend as of today" relates to schedule variance. And then, at 15:35, you said that this sentence "You have spent $ 500 more than you planned to spend as of today" relates to cost. I fail to understand the difference. Please advise.

One(7.00) is Schedule and other(15:35) is cost. At 7.00,it talks about schedule(not cost. May be the answer in C at 7.00) can be rephrased as " There is $500 worth of additional work that needs to be done as of today". If you replace t question with cost variance then the answer would be " The project is $500 over the budget " since it in negative.

Isn't the option d. of question at 7:00 cost related (though it is wrong) instead of schedule?

Yes, it definitely seems that way. The moment 'spent' is mentioned Cost comes in play right away!

I really like your videos but it’s confusing when You say “as of today” in your definition for CV and CPI but when it comes to MCQ questions you say that today refers to schedule.

The key word is "planned" and "spend". But yes that question is confusing 500$ spent in CV

good video , however: i want to know which of the EAC equations to use in PMP exam, my exam is next thursday. I get confused on which one to use : 1- EAC = BAC/CPI 2- EAC = AC + (BAC-EV) 3- EAC = AC + ((BAC - EV /SPI*CPI)) Need help to understand which one to use , in another words how to interpret the question? Pls help

My understanding is you use the formulas based on the respective conditions 1. If the CPI remained the same thru the rest of the project 2. If CPI will change or is expected to continue at the budgeted rate 3. If both CPI and SPI are unchanged Hope you got thru! My exam is tomorrow! :)

cost The cost variance (cv) is $500 what does this mean A the project is ahead of schedule B the project is $500 over budget C the project is $500 under Budget D the project is behind schedule

Dealing with COST so answers "A" and "D" can be eliminated quickly since they deal with schedule. So, a CV> $0 means you are under budget. The correct answer is "C".
