Try the Ol'North Dakota trick. I know it works in southern Illinois and I'm guessing it will work there too. What's the Ol'North Dakota trick you ask? When you're trolling a plug and you get a miss hit, immediately take the rod out of the holder, pull the lure forward a foot or so, then drop it back a coupla feet just fast enough to keep the lure wiggling but slower than the boat is moving.....or as a variant, just drop the lure back as described. I don't know about lakers, but other fish grab it most every time.

Not sure how it’s called that because we’ve done this for triggering fall Kings while trolling cranks or plugs. Sometimes I’ll hit the rod but to jerk the lure or other times drop the rod tip back and then rip forward. If a fish is following it can really trigger them for sure

Good job again sir! Nice big laker. Not an easy job to manage three rods. Keep filming your adventures, that is very cool.

Awesome stuff man, so sick to see how you fight those big fish in a kayak it's impressive. Great fish handling too those guys weren't out of the water too long and looked spunky when they went back.

Thanks and yeah since I know I'm throwing them back I am pretty quick to unhook, pose for the camera, and dump back in. With the frigid water they tend to survive much better too. So it all works out.

@@ChiCityYaker one of these days my luck has to turn and it will be nice enough to drive up there and fish. Planned a 4-day weekend the end of March and the frigging wind was 20+ every day. Got all these purdy lures I painted and they’re itching to get wet.

Sick outing How do you like the metal rails with those rod holders compared to the original rails.

They're great and I only changed it because of downrigger and livescope but otherwise I kept the original ones on it for my first 2 years.

Hi, I am new to lake trout fishing so I have a couple of newbie questions. At which depth do you fish (during early spring 20-30 feet?). How do you reach that depth? I have jerk baits similar to yours but it is written that they go 10-15 feet, how can I make them go deeper to reach the 20-30 feet mark? I have heard people using leader core lines but I am wondering if it is possible to achieve the desired depth (around 20-30 feet) with a normal spinning rod with braided line. Thanks!

Just throw a snap weight on the line a few feet ahead of the crank if you want.
