    Also what defines best? Because I would much rather come up against 1941 Bismarck than 1944 Tirpitz. So surely that means Tirpitz is better.

  • @tombblades

    @tombblades

    7 күн бұрын

    @@jimmyneutron4158 Bismarck in 1941 was a much larger threat than Tirpitz was in 1944. Britain was alone in the battle of the Atlantic and desperately needed convoys from the US to keep herself and the USSR in the war. By 1944, most of Germany surface fleet had been destroyed, leaving Tirpitz as a vulnerable target. This is why Bismarck was so feared, it's down to context and logistics, not about the ship herself.

    @@vitalstrats850it wasn’t necessarily bad. It just was not equipped to deal with the mission it was sent on. No battleship can survive against 400+ aircraft, especially without radar. In a direct fight against other battleships, they would have absolutely no chance against the INSANE main cannons and armor of the Yamato. But that type of warfare was extinct by then.

    At long range, the Missouri could detect the Yamato first and fire more accurately then the Yamato and most likely win. The Missouri had better trained crew and faster reload. The Yamato would do better close ranged I don’t know much about the Yamato though, so I can’t say much. But most engagements between battleships were not close range but long range or medium range apart meaning the Missouri would most likely win.

    USS ENTERPRISE (CV-6) was the most decorated warship of WWII; she received 20 battle stars, three more than any other ship. USS ENTERPRISE became the first aircraft carrier to be awarded the Presidential Unit Citation. She later received a Navy Unit Commendation, becoming the only carrier awarded both decorations for service in the Second World War. While ENTERPRISE docked in Southampton, England on November 23, 1945. During her brief stay, she was boarded by the British First Lord of the Admiralty, Sir Albert Alexander, who presented Enterprise a British Admiralty Pennant, the most prestigious decoration of the Royal Navy. ENTERPRISE is the only ship outside the Royal Navy to have received the pennant, in the more than 400 years since its creation.

    I would say replace Iowa with essex. Ik it sucks but carriers are what ended up crushing the Japanese and the US mass produced them all with their full compliment of aircraft. At that point the Japanese wished they could’ve even had one fully stocked aircraft carrier let alone 28 of them.

    @@MadLadFromHanoverThe Missouri is apart of the Iowa class along with New Jersey. But I think I would still put New Jersey over Missouri because it has been in more battles, has more battle stars, and is the most Decorated US Battleship of World War II. The Missouri is mainly known for her fame and post war service. She mainly served as Carrier escorts during WW2, it was her post war service that got her the fame serving in Iraq, Kuwait, and Desert Storm, she was the last battleship to be decommissioned which made her even more famous. The Missouri was also to note named the Flagship of the United States adding. And to Note: She was the battleship used to sign the surrender agreement of Japan, BUT she wasn’t planned to be. FDR had the New Jersey, the most decorated to be the ship used to sign the surrender agreement, But after his death Truman took office and made it Missouri, since it was his State Ship.

    by "the biggest of all time" i think you mean the yamato. sure, it is the biggest, but that doesn't mean its the best either. sure, it had bigger guns than say the iowa class. but the accuracy was ass. the range was relatively the same as the iowa class, but she couldn't hit shit. if it was a nice day and the seas were calm she might be able to sink an iowa class battleship. even if an iowa class battleship had smaller guns than the yamato, it is still FAR more accurate. so op is ignoring the yamato because of all the flaws she had.

She was also one of the last surviving German Capitalships classified as a Heavy Cruiser. She was later given to the Americans as a sort of Reperation where she would then go on and survive 2 Nuclear Warheads and sink in a different location do to the Radiation damage later. (Not to sure abaout that radiation damage but she only sunk after getting nuked twice.)
