If a fraction of the American media would take 10 minutes out of their day to listen to a single extended interview with Putin, they'd understand his logic and where he "is coming from." He's perfectly reasonable. In fact, he is remarkably reasonable. You can tell very quickly that the man is clearly very intelligent. Very charismatic, yet still pretty somber and reserved as a world leader. If I were Russian (I am American) I would absolutely love this man. He takes no shit. And when you examine his foreign policy positions as well as his actual geopolitical moves, I must admit, he is playing the world game of chess as a master. He can see and think many steps ahead of others, and is very well reasoned and calculated. Trump should have no shame in praising him simply as a strong leader. He most definitely is a strong leader. He views on what he sees as American hostility are hard to dismiss if one thinks from his perspective.

Your assessment of Putin is entirely defensible, especially if, as you observed, _"one thinks from his perspective."_ Ah, but here's the rub. The actions of every world leader in history, both beneficial and destructive, seem sensible when their policies are viewed from their point of view. When seen through a subjective prism, even genocide can be made to seem reasonable. It is the province of historians, given time and distance from people and events, to make objective pronouncements about them. But this process can be fraught with peril inasmuch as even the most scrupulous historian is human and therefore subject to the same prejudices that color the point of view of leaders like Vladimir Putin and which can motivate heinous crimes. All of this can, of course, seem reasonable _"if one thinks from their perspective."_

We don’t really know much about the real Putin, because his image is fully controlled by Russian institutions. Politicians in the West are much more scrutinized by media. If they say something stupid, it is all over the news. All people do sometimes stupid things and sometimes wiser things. Wise people do something stupid less often. We can only see positive things about Putin coming from Russia, so you are simply misled. But even if Putin was perfect, it does not matter, because he is evil.

Oleg Tschutschin Exactly. You are right. But Putin's humour is not necessarily linked to the Russian language and traditions. It is pragmatical enough to be understood by every citizen of the world. Putin is 'international'. He always reacts as a human being and combines the fact of being a president with the fact of being a citizen of his country ahnd of the world. Excellent. . He never speaks of friends and enemies or of the good and the evil. He speaks of our world as an entity, and that makes him a totally new quality in international political life.

Putin thanks him, and leaves, only to return in 5 seconds showing him the empty BluRay box. Stone is uncomfortable, looks around for the disc that stayed in player and Putin says with a smile: Typical american gift. Right. Putin isn't infallible, but he certainly seems to have his head screwed on straight about some things (international law as regards Syria, researching nuclear energy). Not so sure about his social policies regarding homosexuals (I also didn't get his homosexual joke; anyone?), and I heard he currently has his number 1 political opponent under house arrest. Even if your #1 political opponent deserves to be put under house arrest for some reason (other than treason because that's b.s.), it still looks really really really bad. Also, the Dima Yakovlev laws bans Americans from adopting Russians (not sure if Russians can adopt Americans or not). But, if you dig a bit further you quickly get into the whole reciprocating mess of American and Russian laws because somebody from one country did something terrible. In summary, I don't think Putin and the Russian government are perfect just as I don't think my own (American) government is. But, of course, if only the two countries decided to trade and cooperate, think of all the great things that would happen. Would there still be starving Africans? Food for thought.

Yes, and his point and the policy are excellent. It's not about persecuting or penalizing gay people , but you don't want to asvertise, promote, and glamorize that lifestyle. Teligion aside, ultimately heterosexuality is better for society bcs it's better for families, snd what's better for children is better for everybody.

The key to understand Putin is to first know politics and before you start learning about politics you need to understand the moral implications of it. Why? Because people seem to assume that there are virtuously good and bad politicians. That is not the case. In fact politicians on a moral scale are all on the evil side. I like Putin because he is the evil id rather deal with than what we have here in the west and not because he is some god. He is consistent with his ideology and for the past 15 years his actions proved he is a man of his word. He does not switch up like the west does. The hypocrisy of us calling Nelson Mandela terrorist and then persecuting him. Whilst at the same time calling ourselves bastions of human rights. The same time we support Ukraine while bombing Palestine. We say Russia was the only invading force in Europe whilst we bombed Yugoslavia, south Osetia. The United States last year voted against the human rights in the U.N. convention whilst most countries voted for it. France kept proxy colonies in Africa The UK with US intervened in to r Middle East before any provocation. We tried to save Syria by deposing the last democratic government in there. And blame Russia which actually works to strengthen it as an ally. We thought ourselves above Syria that’s why we rather destroy it then help them.
