    Well, old video but i did same thing to my E36 sedan. I replaced master (got E34 one bought from ebay), including the fitting, rebuilt all the calipers, replaced fluid to 5.1 Bleeded air. But i didnt buy the braided hoses. But anyway even after that i got so much better brakes on E36. I was very satisfied. And really old (original) brakes were very spongy. After doing this mod like Pamo it was day and night. I sold the car in 2020. Now im going to buy E36 again and will probably do the same on that also, but also including braided hoses 100%

    Hi Pamo, great vid as always! I've done the MC swap a couple of months ago following your guide and it works great! One small thing I've recently noticed is under acceleration my car has started flashing the brake fluid warning light. I had a look and the 5 series res seems to sit at a slightly different angle, how much fluid do you run in yours as mine is a little over the max at the back of the res but due to its angle it appears lower than it should be at the front of the res? I hope that makes sense!

    I fill mine almost to the top. It's important that the feed for the clutch is submerged and so my reservoir is almost completely full. Get as much in there as you can. Ignore the max and min levels.

    Hey @Pamo, i've done a similar mod to my E36, however the E34 master cylinder would cause the brakes to drag to the point that at low speed the car would stop by itself. Any specifics on the E34 master cylinder? I know that for a time until 92" they were 25mm all throughout and after 92" it was a stepped bore 25/20.3mm.

  • @ManSeeksCivic

    DOT 5.1 is used here simply because its what I had. I use it for my track car due to its higher boiling point. It can be mixed with DOT3 or DOT4 and works fine. It CANNOT be mixed with DOT5. To do a full flush you'll need a minimum of 1l, but I would buy 2 just to give a little extra. I buy 5l at a time and do a couple of cars at a time.

  • @ManSeeksCivic

    @ManSeeksCivic

    3 жыл бұрын

    My 36 has the Reservoir plumbed directly to the master cylinder, the cylinder then feeds the abs pump directly through 2 hard lines which then is distributed through 4 hard lines to each caliper. I've seen pictures on real oem of a slightly different feed from what looks like a remote reservoir but I've not seen this in practise. In other words, with the e34 master cylinder and accompanying reservoir that sits on top this mod was almost a straight swap apart from an adapter to convert the smaller cylinder output from the smaller e34 output on the cylinder to the larger one on my E36 pipework.

    Hmm, could you retain your existing reservoir along with the 34 one (so you would use 2 reservoirs) plug the bottom outlets and just use it to feed the abs pump with it tucked away somewhere🤔. I'm not familiar with the setup but could this bypass the need for drilling the 34 reservoir or changing the pump?

And i don't get it, why E34 master feels so much differently? They look same, you cut the piece off but its a little bit longer than original, maybe this little bit makes that difference? I.e brakes are bit dragging hence the crazy braking force? No?

    For the price range I have no issues with them... My red stuffs are perfectly good and are around 1/2 worn after nearly 13k miles now. As for the Master - it's larger bore simply pushes more fluid giving the pedal a better "feel". It does nothing for the force of the brakes... Just the initial bite. It's purely preferential as I found the e36 standard system not sharp enough (I have driven 4 E36 variants now).
