#e36 #turbols #bigbrakekit
In this episode I try the cheapest big brake upgrade you can get for your e36, they’re even bigger than the m3 brakes. I got e46 330i front brakes on eBay, and slapped them on my turbo LS e36

Great mod!!! I did the swap on an E46 318 to the 330 brake set. I also had to do the rears as with only the fronts it had way too much brake power on the front and was not better with braking then the original setup. After swapping the rear brakes, that made a ton of difference!!!

Thinking about trying this on my e36/7 Z3 M roadster. Getting upgraded rotor and pads that might be better then my carbon pads and rotor setup. I have been told Z3 e36/7 parts fit e36’s like the steering is faster ratio on the Z’s but the e36 with e46 parts like that. I do have the same S54 as the e46 M3... okay when I need breaks I’m doing this. Great hack
@LowBoostFilms

Yea they should bolt right on. Much bigger so dissipates heat better, more clamping force too. Some good pads and fluid and it’ll dead stop.
Awesome video! Thank you for that. I'm looking to do a brake upgrade on my e36 m3 on a budget and this looks like the perfect solution. I'm running rear Z3 m roadster wheels on all four corners. They fit fine with the stock m3 calipers and I'm wondering if they will fit with this upgrade. Also...can you do this upgrade in the rear as well?
@LowBoostFilms
Жыл бұрын
You cannot do this upgrade to the rear you have to get M3 rear trailing arms and brakes and everything and it would be an M3 brake setup, which I did.
Wow. Im doing this on my 1uzfe e36

Can the stock e36 caliper bracket be used with the 330 caliper would I need to swap that as well?

No, it’s too small. You need the bigger bracket.
So you need the 330i caliper brackets and rotors brake lines the same ?

I think so, I’d make sure they have the same master cylinder. But other than that they bolt on
@imnota

Yeah, but it's recommended to get an m3 master (or an e34 one, same bore diameter, cheaper and easier to find. But you gotta shorten a rod and adapt some threads) otherwise the pedal could be very stiff.
Why you didn´t fit e46 330i brakes on the rear ?
@LowBoostFilms

I upgraded the rear end to e36 m3 to fit the 210mm diff. That was in a different episode.

@@LowBoostFilms the brake pads has a lot of meat left on it, when I went to the junkyard years to get the brake caliper. The brake were still brand new and also the rotors too. But I still don’t understand why the brake pedal feel so spongy.

The type of pads can make a difference not just the thickness. I’d def double check the order of bleeding them and try again as well.

You need to upgrade to e36 m3 brake master cylinder. If you do this brake caliper upgrade but didnt also upgrade the cylinder then it wont feel the same.@@EkkoGG
You need to change the break pump too? Or it's the stock one from the factory?

@@LowBoostFilms because one friend told me that i have to replace it with a m3 e36 one or e34 in order to have the breaking power...the disc breaks are bigger, maybe that's the reason

I’ve tested it HARD and stopping from high speeds, it works fine. The M3 brakes are bigger too and use the same booster.
@imnota

Booster is fine as stated but if you mean the master cylinder, yeah upgrading to an m3 one will make the pedal easier to manage as keeping the old non m master with the bigger brakes makes the pedal stiff. The e34 master cylinder is the same bore diameter as the m3 e36 one and is cheaper. Some modifications can be need when it comes to rod length or threads.
Are the rotors from the same car as the calipers ??!!

Actually stock e36m3 brakes are only 325mm and the 330i brakes are 330mm trip right Edit: Just noticed a few mistakes, in my first comment that I made half asleep. Sizes for anyone interested. e36 m3 front rotor is 315mm. e46m3 front rotor 325mm & rear 328mm E46 330i front rotor 325mm E46m3 csl/competition 345mm front
Does it work for the rear too?

@AndiSelaj

E46 rear caliper will mount on the the non-m E36 rear trailing arm. The brake disc will work, however you will lose the parking/emergency brake function, due to a big difference in diameter.
@dimitar117
3 жыл бұрын
It definitely works. I have an E36 and mounted E46 330d calipers and disks (identical as the E46 330i ones) The rear dust protection plate needs to be modified to accommodate the bigger brake discs, be aware that the handbrake calipers have to be modified to match the bigger inner diameter and also the mounting points on the hub. If you are using hydraulic handbrake instead of the stock one I assume it will be even easier, you just gonna need dual caliper adapter plates.

@@doodooman97 Better than WHAT? e36M3 are 316mm diameter and afaik 57mm caliper. Brakes are mainly physics: the more material the better heat can be transfered. Plus the coefficient of the pads. These brakes are TINY to todays standards! I own a Z3 3.0, that has 300mmx22 54mm caliper. Here in Germany I drive 20km w/o speed limit every day. When I go down from 200km/h to 100km/h I do not trust these brakes!!! which are new. And the car goes 254km/h via GPS, which I do not drive anymore, today.
