I’m specifically here for GTI….. because you’re the only person on the digital platforms who directs and addresses the big issues affecting our preservation scene, the real issues with volunteering. You’re literally the only person out there I find that shares these viewpoints and concerns that I have! However, with everything you’ve been through, I also support a phase down of GTI if it’s not rewarding to you and the output for the channel. Cheers

Well Chris, if you fancy some good news for a small Gauge the Issue episode, I came across some. Betton Grange is almost done and her maiden run is set for March 16th, right on time for the 50th anniversary of the East Somerset Railway.

Glad to see you are back for 2024 and look forward to the new SLIPS, I will be especially interested to see what narrow gauge engine feature as the VOR DVD extra remains my favourite episode to date (plus the directors commentary was a lot of fun). Will be sad if GTi ends as I always found it interesting listening to you discuss railway matters (even if the subject was not always a happy one).

I will miss GTI as it’s how I discovered the channel and it has provided me with a lot of news on Britains railways. If you don’t feel up to it anymore that’s fine. The news is often bad at the minute so I get why you don’t want to do that. I’m very interested in the other stuff you have planned this year. You had a very rough time last year and you should be very proud of yourself for pulling through and still making videos for us.

Sometimes, you need to let go of the good ideas, to make way for the great ones. My take is this: I enjoy Gauge The Issue, but it's not really our concern if it continues. None of us can tell you if anything you do is worth continuing with. It's your time that's used to make it. That's down to you, and your way forward. We're cool with whatever you do. Hearing your latest life updates recently, I think it's pretty clear what you need to do. I myself have been through something recently where I've had to let go of what once was, gain closure, and move on. And now, I'm focussing on the great ideas. You do you Chris. Just make sure you're being you the best way you can. Onwards and upwards! Sammy B :-)

Sorry to hear that last year was such a challenge let's hope that this year brings better luck. I think the offer of having your videos available to stream to supporters is great. Your prices and payment schemes are very competitive, theft of digital content is easy ( I'm a computer scientist by trade, I know!) but we really need to get behind people like you who produced interesting and unique content we need to support not steal from you, especially when you are offering content for as little as the price of a Happy Meal there is absolutely no reason to steal it. I also hope that your other supporters will get behind you in reporting content where it's stolen, if too much content gets taken for free then your business will fall apart and we will all lose. No more slips or any programs, and that would be a great shame not just for you personally but for the Hobby and all of the people that enjoy your Productions. Have a great year and I hope it brings you lots of look, by the way I love gauge the issue!

Hey Chris! For starters, for all that you do, thank you. Seriously. Have loved your channel since I stumbled across Ed it in 2018 I believe, and have hung around since. Always love watching your videos. Obviously, do what you are capable of doing and want to do, but if I have any say, I would personally love to see Gauge The Issue hang around. You always find some of the best topics to discuss, whether it be a fun discussion over media like “Oh, Doctor Beeching” or the show about building the model railway track along the actual old right of way (can’t remember the name off the top of my head), or more serious matters that you have discussed, such as discrimination in the preservation world. Those topics are never fun, and I have no doubt can be incredibly depressing to cover, but you cover lots of things that really do need to be said, you’ve given voice to numerous individuals who have been shunned due to race, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, etc. And while a lot of the guilty parties who have discriminated may never watch or listen, there just may be one or two who do. And even if not, you’ve empowered those who have been knocked down to stand back up in that face of adversity, and given them confidence to continue to pursue their place in preservation history solely for the machines/equipment/heritage, and not be deterred by bigots. Again, I know it can be difficult being the one to do it, as opposed to me being an armchair quarterback who doesn’t put in the work for these. I can’t say I’m one of the fore mentioned parties above, but it’s amazing to see someone actually talking about that issue, and bringing recognition to it globally (I’m here in the states). So seriously, kudos to you. Sorry 2023 was so unkind to you, but here’s to hoping for 2024 and on being a much brighter future for you Chris!

I understand your hesitance towards GTI, especially with the last year's worth of news being not overly happy news. Perhaps to take things off your mind, you could revisit some of your earlier topics and see how they have turned out several years later. Things like the progress of new builds/restorations of engines and rolling stock in general, and extentions and rebuilding of railways would be great to hear more about! Maybe some things to do with 200 years of railways coming up next year as well Either way I'm sure we all agree, we love what you're doing and we hope 2024 treats you better

However, GTI is very much what we need in today's railway setting... you're a unique channel, and no one does what you do near as well.

To be honest, I really enjoyed the content you've made, past and present (that also includes Gauge The Issue even though I enjoyed SLIPS and Paint Your Engine more). Everything you're doing was really inspiring and a nice way for me to listen to something at night to get me to go to sleep while providing insight into all things railways (especially those in Britain) across numerous mediums that I've never known before. While Gauge The Issue may not be as engaging to some people and not everyone's cup of tea, it's still interesting and nice to hear about the current going-ons in Britain's railways and how they've been getting on in recent years as well as your own personal thoughts on the subject matter being presented (I especially enjoyed hearing about the demise of the Railway Grapevine, especially since you had an unintentional part in their own downfall with how well you handled the situation with those morons and how it all snowballed from there). SLIPS has been a series very close to my heart for much of the 2010s since I started watching your first episodes starting with your look on the Black 5s first on the KZread channel of Simon A.C. Martin (i.e. the creator of the original The British Railway Stories series which also) and while we're on the topic, I also caught wind of your entry for his character contest during that time for the series' penultimate episode when you brought in the sole-surviving J52 tank engine as Alf (ingenious work on your entry, dude!). I've never heard of Rail Reads but it could be interesting to see more of but Paint Your Engine was something that really touched a nerve with me given that I'm an artist myself. I enjoyed drawing and painting to my heart's content whenever I got something of an inspiration in my head whether it was about stuff that caught my interest and/or I would get an idea to build more upon an image that sticks out in my mind. And, since it's an alternative to SLIPS (given that it can cover extinct locomotives while you develop a painting timelapse of them), it's a nice break from the original SLIPS series and I might end up deciding which engines I would like to have a go at drawing and/or painting. I'd love to see more of that in addition to SLIPS, keep it up, mate! But, at the end of the day, it's mainly up to you to decide which content you would like to put out more often and to always pace yourself on what you enjoy doing so you can fulfill everything that you want to do now and didn't get around to doing the previous years. I'm sorry to hear that 2023 was a rough year for you with everything you've been through and I hope you can make a full recovery but I wouldn't mind waiting for more content to be put out as long as you continue to love what you're doing despite your difficult circumstances and we continue to enjoy what you're putting out. I certainly had a lot of fun seeing and rewatching whatever you're putting out and that's not going to change anytime soon. Best of luck to you, Chris, and have yourself a happy 2024 (may the Dragon of the Orient and the Lady Buddha smile down upon and bless you as you go through with your goals and your content)!

Maybe GTI can continue as and when you feel like you have something you can cover on GTI, if you can’t think of something, don’t make it a major thing you have to do, just as and when you want to, also I am going to try to get the highest tier thingy at some point, but no guarantees on when, but in any case, your videos of all the different series’s are incredible, and I can only see them getting better, I hope one day we can meet in person (probably it would end up being at imlec or spa valley we encounter each other) but in any case, thank you for all you have done up until now and in advance, thank you for all the things you are going to do in the future! Edit: I know you said for people not to request things but if you are planning a vid on 14” Andrew Barclays, lady ingrid has just returned to steam at spa, but you probably already have heard about that, and if you ever need footage of N°57 “Samson” (ugly’s sibling) or footage of “topham” maybe we can arrange something, my dad can probably see about getting you the opportunity to see them up close aswell as the class 12

Engaging with the negativity is always going to take a toll on you. Add in the personal issues of life, it can get a bit much. Regardless, don't feel like you owe us anything. This is your life my dude, and you don't have to justify you spending your energy on you. Whatever happens, thank you for what you've achieved so far.

But the GTIs I like the best focus on the hobby in particular. Actual cases of discrimination should be talked about, but that doesn't mean you in particular have to talk about them. The ones I like are the ones that stimulate a positive discussion like the validity of new builds vs restoring existing engines. I say, if there is a particular sort of GTI you like to do, you should tend towards that. Of course, if you think a particular show you run isn't worth it, I suppose you shouldn't continue.

For me, GTI is only as good as the issues being gauged so who knows what 2024 will bring, in terms of issues, or whether they get gauged

If anything I think you're selling yourself short there. Consider not putting episodes free on YT but keep the "Join" function. If anything I'll just wait till they become free watch them and continue that cycle 🤔 if they were only available through a sub or membership then I'd pay. Its the same with companies like Rooster Teeth. Why pay for it when you can wait a little longer and get it for free or for just watching 10+ secs of adds. I would reconsider that approach perhaps. Looking forward to more film and good luck with 2024 🖖

Here an idea for you, why not let people offer you their own train videos that they took to you to help & save you & your crew friends from running all over the nation, I have some train videos at home, & I would be more then happy to both email, donate & send them to you for Steam Locos In Profile & such, and of course put the names of owners of videos in the credits to give them credit & Thank You too, would that be a big help to you.

I hope the Morry is recovering after the prang. Please, only do what you feel you can, alas the irrepressible Tom Scott has succumbed to the same malaise.

Please, please, please, Chris, turn that irritatng background muzak either right down, or completely off, it prevents a lot of people who's hearing isn't 100% from hearing what you are saying! It's almost akin to having a quiet conversation in a disco that is running 3000 watts of audio in a telephone box! If I wanted to hear music, I wouldn't want someone sitting next to me giving a muttered commentary on what the third violin or the seventh timpani was doing - and I certainly wouldn't want to hear what 'Fred' was doing down the pub last month! - - - - I must have missed the announcement that you had a tumour. I hope you are now permanently rid of it. I have cancer, too, in a different location, and it is coming back for the third time not fun. - - Pop in to Jenny's Monday Club, now and then, when you have time.

Background music is so quiet and doesn’t distract from the commentary at all.

As someone from outside the UK, Gauge The Issue is pretty mutch my most consistent from of news from there, so i think it would be a shame if it ended, but if you think it is just weighing you down and other content, then i understand why you just dont want to do it anymore.
