This edition, we take a joint look at the various Lancashire & Yorkshire 0-6-0 classes. Including the Barton Wright Clas 25 'Ironclads', the Aspinall Class 23 0-6-0ST rebuilds, the Apsinall Class 27s and Hughes Class 28s.
Of the over 700 engines built, only sole surviving 25, 23 and 27 remain. Featuring action of the preserved examples on the Keighley & Worth Valley and East Lancashire Railways
This is an original documentary produced by me and my friends, starring my creations and myself.

I've got a lot of affection for no-frills Victorian 0-6-0 freight engines. They feel like the distilled essence of pure motive power. There are faster, flashier, and fancier designs, but they're the timeless pickup trucks of steam history.

The L&YR livery is one of the rare instances of when painting a loco black actually makes it look nice. I also love the cream and maroon cab interior. Good on the Railway Children for making Ironclad famous. I do wish it could run in the Green Dragon livery every once in a while.

To put it out there for anyone who wants to know more about where '51456' came from, briefly the loco carried this number when being moved from the colliery it worked at to the KWVR, to transport it they put it directly onto the back of a train hauled by a now preserved 8F loco, so technically 51456 is an official number, however given its brief use the 51456 guise is more of a 'what-if'

What you said in the video about these locos each having unique characteristics harkens back to one of my most cherished memories on a steam railway. Back in 2016, while waiting to do a footplate experience for my birthday at the East Lancs, I was talking to the head of the experience course and we were talking about the various locos on the railway and how they were to drive. The thing that always stuck out to me was how she described the 27 as "cantankerous". It's one of those stories that makes you appreciate that even though steam trains obviously aren't really alive, they are one of the closest machines to it as each one almost carries its own personality through the way it works. Makes me wonder if the other two are similar.

Great video Chris! The real loss was not a single L&Y HighFlyer or 4-4-0 made it into preservation. But I’m glad we have what we have that did survive. This is the first video that’s popped up on my FYP in awhile but I’m glad you brought back the longer features and didn’t leave us with nothing but the 5 min ones. Thanks again for your work, time, and effort in putting these together for our enjoyment.

Yes, It is sad that the L&YR class 28's were scrapped, but even so, I still got L&YR class 23 and 27 in existence despite not being a proper 2-6-0 mogul, and most of all: There is an Irish inside cylindered 2-6-0 Mogel that looked like James.. I really like this format you've used for these three sole-survivors being looked at and discussed together rather than as a short set of shorter Sole SLIPs. I needed to know why they don’t dig a tunnel and do an extension for the main line Train so that they can extend the unused abandoned underground train stations. Why couldn’t they use the part D78 Stock train doors on the sides and also restructure the front face of the A60 and A62 stock that includes the class 313, class 314 and class 315 remix and make them all together and also redesign them an overhead line and also make them into Five cars per units and also having three Disabled Toilets on those Five cars per units A60 and A62 stock trains and also convert the A60 and A62 stock trains into a Scania N112, Volvo B10M, Gardner 6LXB, Gardner 6LXC and Gardner 8LXB Diesel Engines and also put the Loud 7-Speed Voith Gearboxes even Loud 8-Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Gearboxes in the A60 and A62 stock, class 313, class 314, and class 315 and also modernise the A60 and A62 stock and make it into an 11 car per unit so it could have fewer doors, more tables, computers and mobile phone chargers. A Stock Train and 8 Disabled Toilets on those A stock trains. why couldn’t we refurbish and modernise the Waterloo and city line Triple-Track train tunnel and make it larger and extend it to the bank station, making it into a Triple-Track Railway Line so those Five countries such as Australia, Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden to convert the waterloo and city line Triple-Track Railway tunnel into a High-Speed Railway lines? The Third Euro tunnel Triple-Track Railway line to make it 11 times better for passengers so they could go from A to B. Then put the modernised 11 car per unit A Stock and put them on a bigger modernised Waterloo and city line Triple-Track train tunnel so it could go to bank station to those Five countries such as Australia, Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden. The modernised refurbished 11 cars per unit A stock could be a High Speed The Third Triple-Track Euro Tunnel Train So it is promising and 47 times a lot more possible to do this kind of project if that will be OK for London Australia, Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden. oh by the way, could they also tunnel the Triple-Track Railway Line so it will stop from Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex so that the Passengers will go to Australia, Germany, Italy, Poland and Sweden and also extend the Triple-Track Railway Line from the Bank to Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex Stations so that more people from there could go to Australia, Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden more Easily. Why couldn't they extend the Piccadilly Line and also build brand-new underground train stations so it could go even further right up to Clapton, Wood Street can they also make another brand new underground train station in Chingford and could they extend the Piccadilly Line and the DLR right up to Chingford? All of the classes 150, 155, 154, 117, 114, 105, and 106, will be replaced by all of the Scania N112, Volvo B10M, Gardner 6LXB, Gardner 6LXC and Gardner 8LXB Diesel Five carriages three disabled toilets are air conditioning trains including Highams Park for extended roots which is the Piccadilly line and the DLR trains. Could you also convert all of the 1973 stock trains into an air-conditioned maximum speed 78 km/hours (48 MPH) re-refurbished and make it into a 8 cars per unit if that will be alright, and also extend all of the Piccadilly train stations to make more space for all of the extended 8 car per unit 1973 stock air condition trains and can you also build another Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive Companies and can they order Every 67 Octagon and Every 37 Hexagon shape LNER diagram unique small no.13 and unique small no.11 Boilers from those Countries such as Greece, Italy, Poland, and Sweden, can they make Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive speeds by up to 147MPH so you can try and test it on the Original Mainline so it will be much more safer for the Passengers to enjoy the 147MPH speed Limit only for HS2 and Channel Tunnel mainline services, if they needed 16 Carriages Per units, can they use those class 55’s, class 44’s, class 40’s and class 43HST Diesel Locomotive’s right at the Back of those 18 Carriages Per Units so they can take over at the Back to let those Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive’s have a rest for those interesting Journeys Please!!!!, oh can you make all of those Coal Boxes’s 18 Tonnes for all of those 147MPH Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive’s so the Companies will Understand us PASSENGER’S!! so please make sure that the Builders can do as they are told!!!!! Music totally unnecessary. It spoils the visuals and prevents me listening to the description.

Sorry it doesn't work for you, but if you're going to discredit music being used in anything railway related, then you'd have to extend that complaint to George Auric, Maurice Jarre, Richard Rodney Bennett and anyone else who scored such well-reknowned and celebrated train films as The Titfield Thunderbolt, The Train and The First Great Train Robbery, respectively. It's always been there to add another layer for people who wouldn't otherwise care about what they're watching. Which, in the 12 years or so that I've been doing this job, it has done. And even encouraged more people into the appeal of steam traction that wouldn't otherwise come in. My apologies if it doesn't work for everyone, but if we discount music as an accompanyment to conveying emotion about machines with limited appeal, then lots of programmes risk becoming monotonous and dull in the eyes of the general public. That's why it's always been there and will likely continue. I will however take words about distraction into consideration in the future
