E-Flite Valiant - Doing Dirt!

Ғылым және технология

I have modified my spare set of landing gears to get rid of nose overs. It was simple, just a wheel axle from a Clipped Wing Cub and wheels from a Night Timber X.
I don't do harder surfaces to often but it always interesting and the Turbo Timber wheels works great!
I fly mine with a 3s 1300-2200mAh battery using a Spektrum NX10.
Technical data
Wing-span (mm): 1300
Empty weight approx. (g): 1135
Length (mm): 965
Battery: 3s 1300-2200mAh

Lapeos my buddy Dustin did that with his Valiant. Great idea...one of the best flying sport planes out there. It did well on the dirt! Nice flying!

Thanks man. I kinda prefer the bush style look also with the Turbo Timber wheels.

Such a great plane, great video to get out there. I have 3 sets of landing gear for my Valiant, the stock gear with pants, the Turbo Timber wheels like you have done (I used Turbo Timber axels) and a 3rd set with 3.5 inch Dubro low bounce tires (again with Turbo Timber axels). I use the float kit for snow flying during the winter months here in Colorado. My other mod’ was to glue in 4 nylon bolts to the bulkhead under the cowl and swap out to a 40amp esc so I could fly the Valiant on 4S as well as 3S. 4S gives the Valiant amazing performance. Don’t try 4S without upgrading the bulkhead though, the extra power rips it clean off the plane, I know from experience, amazingly you can still fly her down dead stick. Also strengthened up my 2nd fuse’ with clear packing tape and it’s remarkable how much it stiffened the plane and it’s flight characteristics. One of my favorite planes in my hanger for sure, it’s all I fly during the ski season apart from the UMX and 600mm Ultrix.

That's some interesting mods you've done. I have reinforced the fuse with carbon fiber rods to make it last longer and I will probably do more mods down the road!

Great idea on the larger wheels without the wheel pants! You have just given me a great idea. I fly on 3 or 4 fields that have longer grass. I struggle to get my RV-7 in the air without nosing over and striking the prop. I actually have to hold the plane by the tail and hit the throttle, let go of the plane and hope it does not nose over. This is no fun at all. Do you think it will work for the RV-7 as well? It has a different landing gear than the Valiant. Any thoughts on the size of wheel might work best? I have to take my pants off. The ones on the plane of course. Thanks.

I'm considering to do something similar on my RV-7 but it might take some time as I have many other interesting videos waiting in line.

Thanks again. I will wait for your video on changing the wheels on your RV-7.

Thanks. I've been waiting for this video. Great mod and one that I would have to do if I got this plane. I actually like the looks of the Valiant more with the bigger wheels. They didn't seem to mess up the flight characteristics, just improved rough ground takeoffs and landings. You mentioned the prime Tundra a few times... do you think swapping to Timber wheels on the Prime would help in reducing landing bounce? Do you still have the Prime? If so, please make the wheel mod and shoot us another video of the Prime Tundra.

Quick spectator critique. You gents need to get a zoom camera and maybe slow down the flight speeds, we can see anything bub.😉

As I'm doing this all by myself it is impossible to zoom and fly at the same time so it is what it is. But I have no problem to see the plane and the view is more or less what I see when I fly so very first person experience.

Hey-Hey! Growing a stache? You got the Clark Gable look for sure! Gone with the wind, "Frankly my dear I don't give a dam!" LOL! 🤠Hey good Idear with the big wheels. Some folks can't afford a stinking membership to a RC club and flying field, slap some mudder's on your bird and go fly somewhere else.

I find it boring to fly at a flying field and more like different locations and to fly the environment. Just like a real bush pilot!
