LAPEOS Sunrise RC Aviator
LAPEOS Sunrise RC Aviator
I've been a fan of RC stuff all my life and on LAPEOS Sunrise RC Aviator I share my experience. I started with boats and cars and after that had a bunch of helicopters. When drones become good I did that for some years and finally I started flying RC planes which to me is the most fun of all RC things to explore.
The things you see me talking about is all purchased by me and the videos I publish are only my personal opinions and thoughts. I'm just an average RC hobbyist and explore things as I go along.

One of the most overlooked planes out there. Really a great airplane. Nice flying!
Thanks! Lots of excellent older models.
The number one and only video we need!
I have two, one flies with floats and the other is with wheels. An excellent relaxing plane
That is great! And one with skies :)
@@SunriseRCAviator There is usually very little snow here :(
To bad :)
A lovely looking and flying plane.
What i would really like to see is a video in which you actually compare thoses piper cub like aircrafts you have, at 1300-1500mm. The PA18 vs bigfoot vs kingfisher vs ... Vs maybe the best one: funcub og/ng. Stating the pros and cons of each one and so on. I'm interested in buying one of those but can't really decide which one. I'd say the funcub OG as I like the most a slow flier capable of flying like a scale one
@@FRMaverick6 I try to talk about this in most videos to som extent. But I will consider to do a pure comparison video also.
A truly underrated gem is the Kingfisher!! I think it's such a great package for the money, nice to see someone else singing it's praises!! Great video 🤓👍
Thanks Ian! Most often it's just the latest planes that gets all the attention. When in fact we already have so many truly great planes.
Yes very true, I gave up trying to have the latest and greatest a few years ago!! 🤓👍
@@IansRCExploits Wise!
Its when I try to fly the kingfisher upside down I always ran Into trouble 😂 one too many times unfortunately 😔
Inverted can have that effect sometimes ;)
@@SunriseRCAviator most definitely 🤣
Does the new tundra v3 fly similar to the kingfisher? I got it on sale really cheap 😂
The Tundra V3 is more agile and speedy than the Kingfisher but both a very nice planes to fly.
@@SunriseRCAviator cool 😎 I'm going to be running it on 3s for a while till I get get some more 4s packs and a decent duo charger
@@showusyaguppysaustralia1515 You will love the Tundra. It's a great plane!
@SunriseRCAviator I'm really looking forward to its arrival was a real bargain only 300 aussie dollars including shipping so I couldn't help myself 🤣
I absolutely loved my kingfisher it was my first real plane ... recently finally bit the dust was abit sad my local hobby shop is out of stock atm but I'm thinking i will replace it with another 😂
It is a fantastic flying plane. I hope you find a new one.
@SunriseRCAviator it really is 😊 thanks for the videos I really like your style of flying and size planes ... good inspiration and keeps me wanting to improve my skillset
@@showusyaguppysaustralia1515 Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you like my videos!
Hi I've just not long purchased the same model 750mm mustang as you have i haven't flown it yet but i have been doing my research on it and found it has common fault with the factory receiver when the gyro is on with rudder problems but ok when its off i have put mine together and powered it to test preflight check and it has the same fault I've just finished watching your video and very interesting in doing the same modifications as you did and was wondering when you installed the new receiver and esc did have to do any reprogramming to get it to work or was it just plug and play with new transmitter and was wondering what model transmitter are you using for it ?
I fly mine with a Spektrum NX10 TX and I had to setup a new model and configure it all just as with any PNP plane.
One of my buddies has this plane. Impressive plane with lots of options...
It is! Very enjoyable to fly also.
That sucks
A little bit yes. But it survived with just a few scuffs.
That’s what it’s all about!😀 What’s your oldest plane that you still fly? I’ve got a few T28's that are old as dirt… and they look the part. 😂
It is! Now I do believe this Night Timber X might be the oldest one I got and that still get some air time. My Valiant has also been with me for a long time.
Fine flying. I would want to know what is your opinion about slats? That's why because i want to fly slowly and of course do stol-landings.
@@Finnishrc-pilot Thanks. They do little and makes the plane more fragile so I never attach them
This looks a gem of a plane. The cabin crew barely spilled a drop!
You might experiment with a Timber X spinner and two bladed 13x4 prop. It is noisier than the three-blade, but more powerful.
@@speedyswede5585 I dont’t like the Timber X prop and power is plenty on the TT Evo.
A very helpful, practical and realistic review and demonstration of this airplane.
Great flying plane! Love your content. Your voice is very relaxing as well. Thanks.
Thanks! Great to hear you are enjoying my videos.
How do you rate the TT Evo against the much lighter Bigfoot? What I understood is, that the more it comes to bush flying, the lighter the better.
Bigfoot is the one to pick as far as flying and to do bush flying. At the same time a larger plane like the TT Evo fly in a different way and is also very enjoyable. Just not as much in tighter locations as it is larger and heavier.
Thanks for your review for this wonderful plane. I have had my eye on it for a year now. One day. lol. I have wanted to ask you this for a while now. I too, fly at a sports field early in the morning on weekdays. No one around to bother me except for some dog walkers. Is there an RC club and field in your area? I have one close to me put prefer to fly on my own, until I am told that I can’t.
Yes there are RC clubs but I prefer to fly alone and set my own agenda how to fly. Plus as I do make videos when I fly and probably that would be interfered with other pilots at the same site. Hence most RC channels do find a place where they can be by themselvs.
Dubro tires are nice and all but there made for planes with alot of wing area and power to save yourself from a premature stall cause as we all know the heavier the plane the faster and harder the stall is. Too reduce bounce on pneumatic tires is to let out a bunch of air
Good advice!
Nice piloting while keeping her in close for the camera. I got this model for myself for Christmas but have only flown it once. I liked it but I keep messing around with other models that have been giving me problems. I should put the problem models aside for a bit and just get out with my good flyers and enjoy myself. The problem planes can wait. [Easy to say but hard to do.]
Great review and it seems that you like it!
@@geofkane2365 Cirrus is one fav!
I loved your heartfelt reviews of the FMS 1220EZ and the Arrows Bigfoot. I have managed to buy one of each and for me they are just right.
@@geofkane2365 Thats two fantastic planes.
Lovin’ it! Checkout my 1300mm PA-18.. flown with FPV! 😁😁😁
@@velocistafpv FPV is not my thing but good to hear you are enjoying it
Nice flying Crashed mine flying to slow. Those big wheels are heavy. Arrows Bigfoot is by far a better flying plane.
@@benlager710 Thanks Ben. Bigfoot is hard to beat. Now where is the V2 Bigfoot with floats?
i flew mine in 35mph wind and it did amazing in it for such a small tiny plane i like the 1300man 3s battery in mine for best wind penetration
@@looneytunes47 Great to hear! Landings in high wind is always interesting.
I had problems keeping orientation of that plane so i put 8 white invasion stripes on the underside of the wing and put 2 long stripes of white tape on both side of the front leading edge of the wings! Man what a difference that made you should try that yourself i think youd love the look of it as well. Cheers Buddy...
@@looneytunes47 That is a great way of improving most planes. If you look at my later videos about this Corsair you see I also have put stripes on mine :)
@@SunriseRCAviator dark blue and bright white is a great combination of colors
On small simple 4 channel Rc Airplanes i dont understand why you dont go with the much cheaper and affordable Spektrum AR410 anntena less Recievers? there only like $35 dollars in America
@@looneytunes47 That is because I have a bunch of AR630/631/637T recievers already.
Touch and go is fun. The last one was butter
Sure is :)
I bought this plane yesterday, build without the box. New and with a 4S 2200 smart battery for less then half the price total. I feel so lucky. Question, what smart charger do you have? Thx and greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
Great deal! I use three Spektrum S2100 for fast multiple charging :)
I'd really like to see you match this model up against the new Super Timber. Judging from what I see here on YT I think you'd be liking the Super Timber more than this PA 18.
It probably is a nice plane but I will never purchase one. It's to big and heavy and I only do up to 4s 2200mAh batteries anyway.
It's a good plane and like you said, flies off grass well, goes back in the box for storage, good gear, good build quality. But.... IMO it is quite underpowered as is the 1300mm version. I sold mine, would buy a V2 if they gave it a little more oooomph.
@@thomasedwards629 More power is always better still I am glad it only takes a 4s battery keeping the cost down instead of 6s very expensive ones.
I really do like that plane. BUT, having said that, I will never purchase it thanks to the very poor FMS customer service in China. I had a problem with my only FMS plane. The SuperEZ. They had no intention of helping me with the problem after going back and forth with them for at least 6 months. I said, ok fine. I will never ever deal with your company again. I am sticking to my guns. I wonder if anyone else has had similar experiences with this company. I have only bought planes from Horizon Hobby ever since. They are a wonderful company with excellent customer service. Sorry for commenting on your channel in a negative way. Next comment will be a good one. I promise. Keep those wonderful reviews coming.
@@davegedeon3767 Bad experience is never good and I understand you choose another brand instead. I also hate it when it happens.
You can say that again. Some of these large companies have no idea about customer service and looking after their customers when there is a problem. Oh well, just another customer lost.
Your review sealed the deal for me. I mainly fly quadcopter fpv drones but I decided to give rc planes a try. Thanks for detailed and exciting video also. Glad you saved it!!🎉
Thanks for commenting! It is a very nice plane and I really dig it. One simple and great looking plane.
Well done & so well explained. I just might order on as they are down by $100 here in Australia (A$240) Yellow is the go I think
@@Bellairvideo Thanks! Yes yellow looks really sweet.
👍👍 what is better Flying, or just relaxing and enjoying the beauty that surrounds you?
@@Mountian-Zen I do enjoy both at the same time :)
Love that sound.. Dang, I need to get the floats on a few of mine....
lol, that's old
@@mach9908 Sure is one that just keeps on flying.
Looks an excellent lake flyer. Well flown.🪃🇦🇺🦘
@@Bellairvideo It is a joy to fly. Probably the best sport plane I have tried on floats.
I watched this video and many like it, and decided not to buy this plane. After a while its good looks got the better of me and I bought it anyway in hopes they'd improved it and addressed the tip stall and other flight issues. To my pleasant surprise it does appear to be the case. It isn't great build quality (still hard to assemble wings and I broke one of the turning keys that pin the wings down) and I couldn't tell you how it flies compared to other planes, but the rudder does appear to have an extremely limited range of movement, though there have been zero tip stall issues and each of the many crashes have been entirely my fault. Over all I'm very happy with it and would recommend it to another beginner wanting a good looking plane with good features for not much money.
What the CG for 3s 2200?
What the CG for 3s 2200mah?
As per the manual
All those FMS 800mm series planes fly a 100 times better on 3s with the stock componants motor and 20amp esc are plenty adaquate. Best to run about 1000mah to 1300 mah battery all the way forward. Love the T-28 as well
To me most planes fly better on 3s. More power more fun.
@@SunriseRCAviator More Power Saves Planes IMO
An explanation or showing of how you did the carbon rod reinforcement would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I did this when I got the plane so a long time ago. What I did was to remove the lid under the fuse and glued two rods in the tail section on each side. In the nose I put one or two rods (can't remember) straight into the foam to reinforce it.
I have had my Valiant for about four years now and still adore it. It is so friendly and capable. An unsung hero of the E-flite line.
It sure is! Now make a v3 top feeder :)
One of my favorite planes. Super easy to fly, tough landing gear, and always fun to take out to the field. I took the wheel pants off off mine and added bush wheels. Love it! Thanks for the video.
I have two sets of gears. One stock and one with Turbo Timber wheels. Truly a fantastic plane to fly! Thanks for commenting.
I agree with SunriseRC. If I bought this plane, I would have to take the wheel pants off and add larger wheels. My flying field is at a sports park with many soccer fields. They keep the grass quite long. Sometimes, I have to take off in the parking lot and walk over to the soccer field for flying and landing. I also like the fact that I can use my 2200 3s batteries without having to buy new ones. You have me thinking. I was looking at the Timber Evolution, but I think this one makes more sense for me. Thanks for another great review.
@@davegedeon3767 TT Evo is great but the Valiant is so much more fun and forgiving!
Thanks SunriseRC. I need more fun and really need forgiving.
I'm going through a similar journey with the fms 980mm p40. I purchased it used from Brian Phillips after watching his review on it. It's just too darn heavy because it's over motored. And the wheels on those front to back swinging retracts are too heavy, making it fly wonky. I had an Avian 45amp esc and the fms Pa18 1.3m motor handy. So, I swapped out the stock power system for those and found a set of ultra light 2.5 in. Wheels that fit perfectly. Now, that little bird is one of my favorite flyers. It's lighter wing loading makes it more stable at low speeds. It lands like a dream. And it's still blazing fast on 4s 2200 packs. It's an amazing feeling, after having a few setbacks and sticking with a project like this, to get it right. And sort of creat something YOU think is pretty darn cool 👍
That sounds like som great improvements over the stock config. Light wing load is what makes for great flying planes.
Interesting to see those flaperons in action and elevator adjustement. I use flaperons on my Discovery. Also i have Multiplex Funcub. It is very good plane. Many thanks for your videos, they are vey good.😊
Thanks for commenting and I'm glad you like my videos :)
I can’t agree more, this is such a great plane. Just back from the field and I’m still smiling. Flew 5 2200 packs with a mild wind. Thx for sharing, greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
@@meshall9586 Great to hear you are enjoying the Ranger :)
You forgot to mention that the nx10 has Hall effect gimbals vs the dx8g2 potentiometers.
I didn't mention it. Maybe because I didn't notice a difference but I guess they are better.
