    The reason for doing so is much the same. In addition to helping prevent rust, trappers prefer to hide the bare metal to make the traps less conspicuous. After this dying process I then waxed the trap. The waxing also helps prevent rust but also serves the purpose of helping to keep the trap jaws from freezing to the ground.
