Looking For Historical Sites Along the Wabasca River

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

There used to be an old trading/supply post on the bank of the Wabasca River near here and, hopefully, some day we will find the remnants of it.

That sure is beautiful country about your trapline. It seams very isolated there. Thanks for sharing your adventures.😊

Have you read the book my Adventures of Wabasca . Its all about two guys looking for the gold near Wabasca . We wrote the author about 30 years ago and he replied back to us. He must have been around 90 when he wrote to us . Gave us some info that is not in the book .It still has not been found . Him and his friend from BC went to Wabasca when they were around 18 to talk to the indian chief in his tee pee. He told them the young bucks returned from a deer hunt one day with bags of gold . They did not know what it was ,but the chief did . He knew it was trouble if the white man knew about it . So he told them to ride far away and hide it . Theses two 18 year old guys started looking for it for many weeks one of them drowned in the river looking for it . The other one returned to BC and wrote the book years later . A few oil field men in the 70s tried looking for it but the cutlines they traveled on were to rough and gave up in there Argos . In the letter he wrote to us ,he said the chief drew a picture of a large grass hill and had a cliff on one side . this is where the gold is now . He sent us the picture ....but the chief did not know where this hill is .......to this day it has not been found . Chances are a road is built beside it now .The reason i say this is because before i heard this story i traveled a lot on these oil field roads in the 90s and seen a hill just on its own and it looked like the one in the picture . Hopefully this will start the spark in others to look for it .

Wow. Thanks for sharing that! I should look into that more. Is the book you're referring to perhaps titled "The Wabasca Adventure" by Earle Frood? I see that on Amazon, but it says it was first published in 1995. It says Earle is now in his nineties and living in Nanaimo BC, grew up in Northern Alberta. His book, Wabasca Adventure, is a fictionalized account of one of his more dangerous adventures as a young adult. You can read the book here: archive.org/details/wabascaadventure0000froo/mode/2up It appears the book's event (fictional) take place directly west of our trapline. Would you be able to elaborate further? Anything you can add will be most appreciated.
