    Chris Elliott was the go to "Running Character Guy", and Larry "Bud" Melman for longevity, but the one that stuck with me was Gus, The Gruff but Lovable forklift driver. He drove the Library Lady in and out.

    So.......Michael Zegan from Girls and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel claims that his big break was playing Dwight the Troubled Teen on Letterman. It is a totally different dude. The guy in the sketch is easily over 20. Zegen would have been 12 in 1991 when the sketch started. Not sure what Zegen is talking about.

    Dwight was one of those ridiculous experiments that wasn’t funny to me at the time. It was more like something they would’ve done well on Fernwood 2-Night. But now I think it’s hilarious, and Paul’s melodramatic organ intros and exits are too appropriate. 🤪

    So there’s this actor named Michael Zegan. He’s played some TV parts in Boardwalk Empire, Walking Dead, etc. Anyway, his IMDB page states he made over 50 appearances on Letterman as Dwight the Troubled Teen, but it’s not this guy in this video. I wonder why?

    There were two Dwights. One at Late Night, here, with Paul’s Music Assistant Chris Albers, and one at Late Show, portrayed by Michael Zegan. I have a rough, unconfirmed count of 38 LS appearances of Dwight, not “over 50.”

    Assuming it’s a serious question, Chris was at the time Paul’s first music assistant. He later wrote for Conan for a long while.
