I’ve only watched the first two, but I love how he’s just a second or two late coming out after being introduced. Nice subtle touch.

Dwight is played by the fine actor Chris Albers aka Junior aka Ace aka Paul Shaffer’s assistant. Thanks Don!

So.......Michael Zegan from Girls and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel claims that his big break was playing Dwight the Troubled Teen on Letterman. It is a totally different dude. lol I remember this!
Dwight was one of those ridiculous experiments that wasn’t funny to me at the time. It was more like something they would’ve done well on Fernwood 2-Night. But now I think it’s hilarious, and Paul’s melodramatic organ intros and exits are too appropriate. 🤪
“If Daniel LaBelle appeared in a Letterman sketch from 1991”
Does anyone know what song Paul starts to play at 1:08 when Dave asks for a dial tone?

So there’s this actor named Michael Zegan. He’s played some TV parts in Boardwalk Empire, Walking Dead, etc. Anyway, his IMDB page states he made over 50 appearances on Letterman as Dwight the Troubled Teen, but it’s not this guy in this video. I wonder why?

There were two Dwights. One at Late Night, here, with Paul’s Music Assistant Chris Albers, and one at Late Show, portrayed by Michael Zegan. I have a rough, unconfirmed count of 38 LS appearances of Dwight, not “over 50.”
