Dust Collection Cart DIY
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This will show you how to make a two stage mobile dust collection system with a shop vac and a a dustopper from Home Depot. It's a really easy project that works great.
The cost of this unit is less than $200.

I was about to build a 3/4 ply enclosure/cart for my new system, but I'm glad I saw this video first. The pvc pipes are genius, thank you!

Thank you! There are a couple of other videos that use the PVC method. I encourage you to watch them and see which works best for you. I can say that mine worked fine. I added a 1”x1” frame around the top. They were slotted so the 1/4” plywood top would slide into them. It made the top a bit more ridged and if I set screws or stuff on top, they don’t roll off. Thanks again for the comment!
Thank you for sharing.! I have a WEN 3410 Air Filtration System on it's way after watching. I also plan to build this soon as I can. I have a small 16 x 20 shop and enjoy wood working, mostly scroll saw projects. I also like the rubber adapter idea. It is difficult to have a adaptor for all of my tools. I wish they would standardize fitting sizes to at least a couple of standard sizes. I have lung issues and hope this project will allow me to continue my wood working hobby. Keep bring these great ideas to is please!

Glad it was helpful. I was finding myself coughing when I was working on projects. I most often wear a mask now as well as dust collection and filtration. They all help and make a big difference.
Wow, this is great!! I may just have to build this! Thanks for this video!!

I am planning to try a few things to prevent the flaps from getting sucked in. My 16gal rigid vac sucks them almost all the way in even if I bend them out. First plan is to use the top of a small gatoraid bottle as a more rigid funnel clipped to the flaps and see how it works. Then I might 3d print something custom

Awesome! Please let me know how it works out.
Good video. I like your simple design, though I think I'd be sure to round those sharp plywood corners. And, I like the fact that you appear to have used 1/4" plywood for the top. No need for the extra weight of 3/4" ply but I agree 1/2" would be better. So, kudos. Just round over those corners and you're good to go! :)

Thanks for the comment. I actually came back later and added a 1x1” band around the outer rim of the plywood. It added a bit more rigidity and if I put screws or something on it, they won’t roll off.
Thank you.

You’re welcome!!!
Rigid also makes a hepa class filter for these shops vacs also. Ensures clean exhaust air.

I use the filter in my smaller 5 gal vacuum. I should add one to this vacuum as well. The filters work great. Thanks for the comment! I also have a WEN 3417 air filtration system that hangs from my ceiling. I did a video in that as well. My shop/ garage has much less dust these days.
I think u could prevent the flaps from getting sucked in by gluing a thin piece of wood to both sides of the flap!

Great idea! When I get around to it, I want to fabricate larger flaps that will catch more dust. Such a messy tool! Thanks for the comment.
Hello Ray - I just built mine today and have a question for you. Did you do anything to help with the rigidity of the upright's? I just went with the 2" PVC to begin with but I found that with the slip fit at the bottom and the top (caps) - I have to tweak it a little sometimes to get them be straight (vertical). I thought about putting some horizontal pieces about 1/2 way up - all the way around to stiffen things up. What say you? :)

Hi John. I have the same issue with rigidity. It works though and I haven’t bothered to mess with it. The only thing I changed was to make the 1/4” top more ridged. I closed the garage door on it and cracked one end. I just took a 1x1” board and cut 4 pieces to fit around the edge of the plywood. Then I cut grooves in the boards and applied glue to attach them to the plywood. Your idea to add rigidity sounds like it will work. Let me know. Maybe I’ll try to work on mine as well. If I do. I’ll let you know what I did and how it worked.

@@Ray_Here Ray I added some 1/4 in straps (Masonite) - 18" up from the bottom - all the way around and it helped considerably.

@@PastorJohnBrown Thanks John! How did you attach them to the PVC legs?
@johnbrown3882

I first generously applied CA and glued them in place to keep them from “racking”, the I followed up with screw into each leg to keep them in place.

Isn’t this a little wobbly when you move it?

A little bit. I don’t have to be careful with it. It holds together with no issues. Thanks for the question.
Nice but chamfer your wood and round those corners
