've been now sauntering out and down a path sometime Come on, it takes me nowhere which I knew Faces everywhere pulling grins and signs and things Telling me not there man, it's no go (don't go there boy) I need a reason (I can't think without one now) Too much learning got to show Call it treason (maybe catch her don't know how) Too many things too much to know Bring my timing in, seagulls gather on the wind Lady screaming, lady leave me out 'Cause sometimes people stare (coming down, electric chair) And steaming crowds they gather and they shout Don't know why this evil bothers me (take another chance boy carry the fight you can take him if you're fast) So why is he trying to follow me? (didn't I say if you're holdin' on you'd be laughing at the last) How many reasons do they need? (I get along fine with them friends of mine, But you have to make a choice) I might just believe this time (you're singing out of tune, but the beats in time and it's us who make the noise) I'm talking for free I can't stop myself, it's a new religion I've got something to see, I can't help myself, it's a new religion Okay my reasoning might be clouded by the sun But someone sees the departmental lie You know this peacetime, jabbing fist in stabbing knife Only get one look before you die Don't know why this evil follows me (gotta take pay for the saints 'n' sinners in regulation hats 'n scarves 'n things) So why does he try to bother me? (walking in formation down the lane they carry their cross make a church bell ring) How many reasons do they need? (army majors pull a mean cool truth there lying in a swimming pool) I might just be right this time (searching for the undeniable truth that a man is just a fool) I'm talking for free, I can't stop myself, it's a new religion I've something to see, I can't help myself, it's a new religion Don't know why this evil follows me (gotta take pay for the saints 'n' sinners in regulation hats 'n scarves 'n things) So why does he try to bother me? "It’s an incredibly complicated song to have structured this early in their career " Can you explain why?
@clauswilker4734
11 ай бұрын
@@gmansi I'd say because a lot of it is "against the grain" - John's heavily syncopated, pumping bass riff, Andy's metal-meets-funk guitar, Simon's close-to-rapping ("searching for the undeniable truth that a man is just a fool" - can anyone sum it all up better?), Nick's Keys in "duel" with the bass, and everything on Roger's solid carpet. "Complex" may be more fitting, perhaps. But Khanada was also pretty complex; and the My Own Way "Night version" is also pretty cool.
@gmansi
11 ай бұрын
@@clauswilker4734 Thanks a lot for the explanation! Khanada and My Own Way!! The rhythmic base of "Anyone Out There" is one of my favorites too.
@clauswilker4734
11 ай бұрын
@@gmansi Nothing to thank for! So I guess Khanada and My own way - at least in the arguably better Night Version - push a button for you, too? Anyone out there is another one where I see your point. I read somewhere that John was responsible for the arrangements; which may explain why the bass has a rather more prominent role than usual. Which in this case is much more justified than with Overkill over the past 30 years... Just playing is the Night Version of Planet Earth - if I'm not mistaken, I have that one upstairs, too. Black generic sleeve vinyl, you know. Also an incredible stampede bass augmented by some funky rips, really dirty spots by Andy, a lone sax in the first half (and I think it's a real one) supported by more brass later (from 3:00). At some places, a bit less keys would have been more. IMVHO...

This is their greatest piece of work.

John never gets the respect from the business that he should. He's very underrated!
30 years after the release it still rocks
This song clearly shows that John Taylor is one of the best bass players in music.

(walking in formation down the lane they carry their cross make a church bell ring) How many reasons do they need? epic bass line
This track is dope as ever and JT just owns the solid funk that drives the tune. I love that they song the double layers of different lyrics together even live. It’s a wonderful embellishment I’ve always loved about this song.

"It’s an incredibly complicated song to have structured this early in their career " Can you explain why?
@clauswilker4734
@gmansi

@@clauswilker4734 Thanks a lot for the explanation! Khanada and My Own Way!! The rhythmic base of "Anyone Out There" is one of my favorites too.
@clauswilker4734

IMVHO...

Amazing outro
Such a banger
The scene: 1986, Germany, military barracks, the one thing you could have was a kick-ASS stereo system. This LP and cd were playing so loud out of the open window, you could hear it throughout the entire kaserne. Since one of my roommates had the system we jammed this song and LP/CD so loudly, the bass felt like someone punching you in the torso. Loved every minute of it. Peace- out ✌️👉🏻 😎🤪👊🏻🆒🇩🇰
