Paul Argyropoulos I agree. It’s criminally underrated. One of their best and it’s easy to listen all the way through. DD has really solid albums between 81-93, minus Liberty. But everything else they put out was incredibly solid. If they didn’t blow it with Thank You or Medazzaland, they probably wouldn’t have fallen off the mainstream radio playlists in the late 90s.

I always loved Big Thing ablum - fucking brillaint album - land, palimino, do you believe in shame, all she wants is, and of course big thing, and the superb edge of america. Wonderful experimental shift for duran - to go from notrious to big thing - fucking depth of talent - such different styles but still stank of duran duran identity. Masterclass in music making.

I agree, so many songs on Big Thing are overlooked, as the whole album is overlooked by the mainstream music circle.

Couldn't agree more, these songs are absolute gems. I bought the album as a 11 year old back in 1988 , I believe. Already had great taste back then ;)

Agree. As usual it’s less pop/ commercial tracks I find so intriguing in Duran.

Simon is the best lyrical poet of the 80's. I can still listen to this music after nearly nearly 40 years. Duran Duran are timeless. Still loving being a Duranie after all these years. Listening to Simon talk about the meaning of this song really brings so much more to this song. This song has always been special to me as most of them are, but this one speaks to the very depths of your soul. DD forever.

Nothing makes me more sad than "Ordinary World." After I heard that, I never doubted his ability to convey emotions. This one is my favorite on the album.

One of the most underrated DD songs. Absolutely fantastic also To late Marlene is as great.

One of my top 3 Duran tunes Too late Marlene off the same album is another. Big thing = underrated imo.

Absolutely brilliant song. Big thing brought into the DD world. Who can forget the dance version to "All She Wants Is?".....

It was in Tequila Sunrise from 1988 with Mel Gibson. Kurt Russell and Michelle Pfeiffer

I'm still so impressed with how DD have allowed themselves to go in many different directions. The quiet simplicity of the guitar and the rhythm section and Nick's musical soundscape perfectly complement Simon's deeply personal, emotional lyrics making this one of the most haunting songs about a deeply personal, heartbreaking topic.

Agree with everything said below. This might be a little observation but. . . I’ve seen a couple of interviews with Simon and John Taylor sitting next to him, I was struck by how attentively John looks and listens to Simon. They’ve been in this band forever, it seems, but there seems to be a true respect and interest in each other that routine and time hasn’t dulled.

Simon is a great poet (who also has an incredible voice). His lyrics has a kind of old vibe , sometimes with unusual words. As most of his poetry, they are unreachable to a specific meaning, but this one, is addressed to someone which makes it so damn special! At the same way, Ordinary World is related to personal losses.

It's never going to happen, but I wish they'd play this live now. Such a wonderful song. 🖤

Big Thing was released when listening good music in good quality was everything you need. CD and discman days. I miss that.

There's some really funny anecdotes about Duran Duran's guitarists. When Andy Taylor went to see Missing Persons live he told Warren Cuccurullo that he had no intention of joining his band mates on the recording of what came to be the "Notorious" album. Warren, seeing an opening wasted no time, contacted the Band's management and offered his services the very next day. No audition needed. When Andy Taylor left for the second time, hired gun, studio guitarist Dominic Brown was asked to help record "All you need is now" again the band never auditioned him, according to Brown, one day he found himself writing songs with Simon LeBon and nobody telling him that he was in the band.

The Simon's voice sound great like the 89's version

This has to be the absolute best live performance I've ever seen of this!! wow! Such a powerful song made even bigger through such a great live performance and of course the commentary before helps give some context to it.- I remember the first time I heard "Do You Believe in Shame" (I bought "Big Thing" as soon as it was released) thinking thatit was going to be one of those future classic's, I just couldn't stop listening to it, and although I knew what the song was about, it was hard to appreciate how exactly truethose words were until I lost someone dear to me.... now when I hear this song its seriously difficult to keep from getting tears in my eyes....

Very good song by an excellent band who, thank god, have decided to stick around and still release music. If you had told critics that DD would still be around and relevant in the 2020's I doubt they would take you too seriously. My hat is off to them. Trivia: What song has a melody very similar to this? Extraordinary, song. I really get this song, too.. Its in the top 10 of all time.. Has to be.. Despite being up against very tough opposition. Its has to be 10th,at least.

A beautiful and hauntingly poignant track of theirs that I love. However, I can't work out if its the arrangement, production, or prep that gives it a little awkwardness ( I've been a huge DD fan since 87, so no shade being thrown, just an observation)
