Brian Herbert (the son of Frank Herbert) is definitely writing canon. If family carrying on the legacy of an author that has passed isn’t canon, then there’s no such thing as canon.

Frank Herbert is dead. So is Dune lore supposed to stop with him? NO. I'm glad his son is continuing where his father left off.

I agree. Such a great setting for future stories but the lore nazis and needing things from a purists point of view is the gas chamber for creativity.

I wish them well. They are keeping continuity with the staff from dune 1,2. It’s a mysterious subject. Dune has a lot of stuff that can go on tv.

Denis V is a producer and guide for the show and Brian Herbert consulted on the Dune films. This bodes well for synchrony within the Duniverse.

Dune shouldn't be treated like a big franchise. They'll turn it into Star Wars.

the world is massive and it spans many many years; along with his son and Kevin's added story. It can continue onwards but i think it should be like HP where directors change hands as we progress forwards of the story. Like dune 1 & 2 cover book 1 still we're not even near book 2.

I can’t tell if it is gonna be any good but I will definitely check it out when it comes out on Max later this year because I am a big fan of the recent Dune movies!

god I hope they don’t dilute the Dune brand. this doesn’t have the same visual flair as the movies (obviously) but it looks super TV looking

I'm interested in this because Emily Watson is in it. As long as she's good, and she always is, I don't really care about anything else.

I hope they go deeper into the Bene Gesserit's abilities, like prana bindu, truth telling, control of internal chemistry, etc. The movies didn't do enough of that. It would be interesting if they show how the taboos of the Bene Gesserit were discovered. They could show the first abomination or the Bene Gesserit trying to use their biological control to slow aging and trying to achieve immortality. They can also do more to flesh out the universe. Develop the mentats, Landsraad, Spacing Guild, CHOAM, and the other Houses more. It would be cool if they also introduce the Tleilaxu and their rivalry with the Bene Gesserit.

The teaser looks good, but a little too derivative in its aesthetics. The cast is excellent. The Bene Gesserit sisterhood is one of my favorite elements from the books, so I'm interested.

This series and dune awekimg are stuff I’m excited

The pilot was pretty good. It has a “Game of Thrones” feel. Thought when it began I was watching a Terminator series. You’ll understand when you see it. Was a good start. Has an interesting story with the emperor’s daughter and her arranged marriage to another house’s ruler’s son was “interesting.’ And the character of Desmond is definitely interesting. Looks promising.

thinking you started watching 'a terminator series' makes perfect sense for people familiar with the Dune backstory / lore. In a fan fantasy scenario, the Dune universe could very easily be set within the Terminator universe.

I have very low expectations for this one. The showrunner and executive producer don't look promising and the trailer looked generic. Pretty sure Denis isn't producing either because he is working on Dune 3. The initial idea when HBO was HBO, with Johan Renck directing - Chenobyl and Breaking Bad - and Denis producing was WAY more promising.

Was not sold on the trailer it looked like an Apple TV series

so? apple tv has some fantastic shows severance, ted lasso and even foundation s1-2 are great. You cant really tell from a trailer how its gonna be. I thought the fallout trailers looked okay but the show blew my mind it was so good.

I almost don’t want to have this story told. I like the mystique of these things where not knowing how it all came to be is kind of great. But I hope it’s good. I just home it’s not a Matrix Reloaded/midiclorian type situation

Making the Band: The Spice Girls.

I think they’re saving the main Frank Herbert stories (the six books) for Denis Villeneuve to adapt in film format, thus leaving the spin-off series, that his son Brian co-wrote, for HBO Max tv series adaptations. That being said, I don’t know… the trailer didn’t do anything for me. I’m getting Rings of Power vibes… Will definitely check it out, and I hope it surpasses my expectations. But based on what I’ve seen thus far, I’m a little concerned.

I'm sure the studio would love to but I don't know if you can make something like God Emperor into a movie without changing it quite a bit. I also don't think Dennis necessarily wants to make them all into movies. If it happens, since Heretics and Chapterhouse are more about the sisterhood anyways, this prequel tv show can feed into those movies quite well.

I think it's an unfair comparison to say it's similar to the *Rings of Power* that kinda muddies the water. Brian Herbert has a direct connection to the material being that he'd continued his fathers work, it's not like The Rings of Power with two dudes just making crap up. Now are some of Brian's ideas silly... yes. At some point there are cat people LOL. Although, I think it's been established what works in Dune and hopefully they'll stay the hell away from all the crazy stuff down the road or at the very least pull back a bit, just as the most recent movies have.

Futars (cat people) were introduced by Frank Herbert, not Brian, in "Heretics of Dune" and "Chapterhouse: Dune"

His son Brian wrote several books that occur pre-dune. And one or 2 after Frank's books that followed an outline he wrote long ago

Brian Herbert wrote almost 20 Dune books and half of them were very good. If the writing is good then this will be a good show. The rest is irrelevant.

Yep. Those families are the Great Houses and they've existed for thousands of years, although the relationships between them has changed over time.

Yep so there needs to be more emotion coming across from the actors because dune didn’t have that.

First of all the Brian Herbert books shouldn’t be considered cannon. denise villanueva not being involved is more turn off for me as well. Why can’t they just let the movies be good and be done with it? Dune 1 and 2 are in my top 10’of all time. I just don’t see it being good in any way

Really ? Who asked for this ? Dune is one of the most boring movies/series ever! Now is it good ? Oh hell yes, but I like more action in my shows/films/
