I always give 3 tips for tool reacts: - Avoid the official music videos for the song reaction. They are art, but the visuals are too distracting. - Lyrics are helpful - Some songs are meant to be listened to together. Some are obvious, such as Wings I&II, but others less so. Just do a quick search before reacting and make sure. Easiest will be to check if other reacts list it with another song. Hope to see more! Spiral Out!

It really works listening to TOOL studio tracks with lyrics pulled up on phone or something. The videos are a lot of stimuli as is the music. I don't think the brain can appreciate it all at once on first or even second listens. You asked for a couple more...there are dozens upon dozens more and each has their own different vibe. The Pot is a good intro song and you are my age so Invincible is a 2019 release that really hits home for me. I saw the shirts and crowd in high school in the 90s and was more into hip hop then. Now, it's completely life changing and introspective. Keep going

Tool are just full-on musical art. Not saying that there aren't other bands that do it as well, but Tool is just a whole experience taken all together; it's a musical journey, with very inspirational and metaphysically thought-provoking lyrics. Pry open your third eye and just let yourself get lost in the experience. Try, "The Grudge," "The Patient," "Parabol/Parabola," "Right in Two," "Vicarius,"

We share a lot of the same patterns in our music-listening past. I loved Tools first EP and even saw them live before Undertow was released. However, because I turned into a metal elitist I shunned tool because of their rise in popularity. In Hindsight, it was clearly a childish response but it has given me almost the entire Tool catalog to discover over the last couple of years. What an amazing band! Thanks for the reaction man! I was introduced to Tool via the videos from Lateralus at about the age of 7, it made me so uncomfortable yet I was still fascinated by it, they had Jello Biafra of Dead Kennedys do a commentary track on the Parabola dvd and that was absolutely hilarious, it took years and years for me to loop back around and fully listen to their music properly, over the past… 10 years maybe? I really absorbed it and man, their music just gets better and better the more I listen to it, the instruments on their own are exceptional and then reading the lyrics give it more depth, the videos are awesome and disturbing but yeah, definitely audio first, art afterwards. Their CD releases have amazing artwork too, worth owning a copy of at least Lateralus, 10,000 Days and Fear Inoculum, they’re seriously some of the best art/music packages I’ve ever owned.

I don't know if someone has mentioned this, but Adam Jones (TOOL's guitarist) was a Hollywood special affects artist/engineer and worked on films such as: Jurassic Park II and Terminator II. He uses his filmic skills to make their videos and his videos are his interpretation of the sound of the music. Conversely, Maynard James Keenan (the singer) is a hand-on wine grower (owner of Merkin Vineyards and Caduceus Cellars) and restaurant owner, part time actor, musician, and one of the greatest lyricists of all time. Maynards lyrics are based on his impressions of the music -- written after the songs are done -- and are not directly connected to the videos. However, the touchy subject matters that Maynard submerges into -- in the clever ways that he does -- compliment the videos and visa versa. Both are hellish or are nightmarish in their own right. Maynard is also in two other bands: A Perfect Circle, and his own project: Puscifer. Between these three bands you can hear just how chameleon like Maynard's voice is; his singing style range is nothing short of incredible, and convincing. It's hard to tell that it's him sometimes. The bassist, Justin Chancellor, is also incredible in his tone and his amazingly well written riffs and the drummer, Danny Carrey, is one of the greatest and most amazingly abstract prog-drummers of all time. Put them all together and you got TOOL.

Even before seeing your reaction, I tell you that TOOL cannot be defined simply as "rock". If you want to force them into a category they usually classify as progressive metal, but they really don't sound like anything, so you can't expect something like Dream Theater or Mastodon. You may not like them, but if you figure them out, they'll be the best thing that's ever happened to you, even if this song isn't the easiest to start with. Now I will watch your video. By the way... The advice is not to watch the videos but listen to the audio version, possibly with lyrics. The official videos are absurd and distract you from listening.

the best way to experience tool as a new listener is skip the music videos, listen to audio tracks and have the lyrics handy... the music is so complex and the lyrics are so deep that the videos they do are a distraction until you understand the song (and even then, some of the videos are just completely f'n out there). The live version of the song sober is worth watching the video for though.

and in my opinion (I AM AN EXPERT BTW), starting with their Opiate EP and just going thru the albums in order really is the best experience because they change so much... and theres really no bad songs... except for their last album which is a hard pass (yes I know, a lot of you nerds like it but its simply not good).

One time, I was one a long school trip and we were traveling by bus. On the way back, I fell asleep listening to a Tool album. Strange dreams to say the least. I woke up and it was playing to extended after-album track. It tripped me out because for a hot minute I couldn't figure out if I was still asleep or awake.

Go with something a bit more recent and technical like 'Descending' as it has no video to go with it...just audio. All Tool songs should be heard audio only on first listen as the video can definitely be distracting if you do not know who they are first.

Tool has been my favorite band for over 30 years. They don't have a bad song. However, whoever did this to you did you wrong. 🤣 Tool has THE most distracting videos in the business. If you try again, go with studio audio only. Adam, the guitarist also creates the videos, and fever dream is an accurate statement, but they have little to nothing to do with the music.

"What the fuck is that!?" is an appropriate response if you're reacting to the video lol. You're definitely better starting with just the studio or live version, because the visuals in the videos make it nearly impossible to center your focus on the music. Spiral out, keep going. 🤘
