    had a 821 monster for some year and happily rode it around for about 60k km, loved the thing, wasnt perfect for sure but definitely added smiles in my kms.. never even thought to do the desmo service myself or change belts you make it look so easy. i would have stopped at the "what needs removing" lol - enjoyed the video thank you.

    I don't have this particular model of Ducati I have the Scrambler Sixty2 but watch your vlogs regardless of what you're working on, never too late to learn and as they say every day is a school day, always good to keep in the loop just in case I should ever have any issue/s and I know where you are. Thanks.

    Top Tip - The center bolt from the TDC lockup tool can be removed and used as a crankshaft turning tool (with a wrench).

    Awesome! It seems Heath Robinsonish measuring the decibels, one wonders why it would not be possible to measure the torque induced apon the eccentric tensioner while setting. 👍👌👏

    I'm also interested in the cam jams. In my previous belt service a few years back I was motivated to try to fashions a couple of jams using pieces of the old belt. I did a work around, but I might try this approach again in a couple months when it is belt service time once again. I also advocate not removing the airbox. The juice ain't worth the squeeze! OMG

    Thanks for your kind words, mate. Virtually every day for the last 35 years! No wonder I feel worn out 😂 I've got a head full of motorbike stuff, but not much else! There is always something new to learn, though, that's what keeps it interesting. Sharing what I've learnt with other people and positive comments like yours does a lot to keep me motivated, so thank you 😁👍

    I'm not here to defend Ducati or the others brands or criticize you negatively, but this kind of video are useful for those people that have a minimum knowledge in mechanics stuff. For instance how many times i read on a forum people broken stud using torque wrench? many times. So i think that it's normal that Ducati reccomands his own service as well as the other brands. This bikes are expensive and no mistake have to be done during service, ok not just because they are espensive even in chi...cheeper bikes haven't to, what I mean Ducati to defend his bikes reputation (end their original/particular technology) don't like that an imprepared mechanic messing around his engine. this does not mean that only the Ducati service is able to do it, there are general mechanics capable of doing it and also DIY enthusiasts, but Ducati cannot know them one by one. Finally, in your shoes I would never say it's an easy job, no matter how easy it seems, the risk of causing major damage to the engine is equally easy, and therefore I would recommend doing it only if you feel confident and at least prepared, and it is not enough watch a video on YT to become an official mechanic of your motorbike. Ciao ;)

    if you dont feel comfortable doing this you should not - but its your bike and your decision. If you are saying that the risks associated with the task should prevent you from doing something i disagree, then you should not ride a motorcycle at all. You seem not to take into your consideration the risk of a "qualified" mechanic working on your bike, or a faulty part being used or your garage trying to make 200% more out of the job hired to do there are lots of variable. For me and i am only stating my opinion here, you watch a video which has been uploaded for a reason covering a specific subject cause you are interested if you feel you can do the job its your decision not because someone on YT said its easy, you need to filter the info and decide for yourself, sometimes you take the wrong decision..enjoy !

    I just want to make sure I didnt misunderstand as i printed some instructions from a tool rental website in the states. as well as watched your video from a few years ago. Crank locked at horizontal TDC both belts are changed.. i mean technically if the crank doesnt move and the cam gears are locked it could be changed where ever but for the sake of info for myself and others i just wanted to clarify

  • @SuperbikeSurgeryTV

    @SuperbikeSurgeryTV

    4 ай бұрын

    Yes, technically, it wouldn't make any difference where the engine was so long as the crank and cams are locked in position. The crank locking tool only has the ability to lock the crank at TDC, so that's what you do. Theoretically, you could lock the crank at TDC EX, but then the timing marks on the cams wouldn't line up, so why would you. Hope this helps.

    Have you ever removed the DVT pulleys from the camshafts so that the oil seals can be replaced when the camshafts are removed? What is the best way to loosen the bolt that holds it on?
