@@12voltvids I've been mechanically inclined and worked on cars much of my life. I don't have patience for small details. The fact that you figured this out and came back to make the video about it was very impressive. it made me say to myself "I wish this guy was local because I would send my equipment to him"

Dave, don't feel like this was a waste of time. (I know you were just venting) Sometimes it just becomes a mental challenge. You want to get the item working and then you find yourself getting deeper and deeper into the repair.. We have all been there. Great repair and glad you got it working. Hope the customer appreciates your effort!

Exactly! And I now appreciate why automatic record players where much more expensive than manual ones.

Even in the factory you had a lot of adjustments to make on those mechanisms, just to get them to work. Then as parts wear you have to compensate by bending things even more.

Hi, love watching you work on these duals and has helped me a lot with my recent dual 1219. Im sure i saw one with tone arm not going on the record. Have i imagined this as im searching your videos again. When stacking and playing on the first record the arm rises, goes across to the record then as it drops it slides away and misses. When i put it on the record to listen at the end of play the next record drops and arm works as it should....

Smashing repair, it just had to be right :-D I don't suppose most people think about the clever mechanism, i wonder if anyone made a transparent record deck just for the novelty. I bet people would have bought that in the hayday of records.

It could also be the arm leading to the power switch is gummed up and requires a little ipa and lube. Follow it back from the power switch and lube the main pivots. A gummed up pivot near the center of the table is a culprit for duals not turning off at the end of cycle. It controls the power arm via the cam mechanism.

Any idea why the arm doesn't return all the way on to the rest? Or is that just an issue with these? I have a Dual 714Q with auto-stop and return that does this too. It doesn't put the arm all the way onto the rest when stopping, but it does switch off the motor. And what's with the "ramp" ahead of the rest for? Mine had one that was adjustable up and down (it pivoted at the point that it connects to the rest) but it broke and I haven't gotten a replacement yet. But seeing that yours is intact and it still doesn't put the arm all the way onto the rest makes me think it doesn't really do anything?

Hello, do you have a video where you change the dearing ring or the bearing assembly. Hello again, my diaring ring broke, and I don't know what the procedure is to change it. I already bought it. I would be very grateful for your help. Thank you.

I have a DUAL 1249. There is a big spring like piece which is like a big clip under the tonearm plate between the multiplayer shaft's sleeve. its like a safety pin. it looks like a hasp. What if its missing? I thing it rests the other shaft and creates a tension to be stable... Whats that big wire spring called sir?
