I remember when I first started roping about a year or so ago, how I watched this video and it didn’t make any sense to me. Now, coming back, I actually understand! Thank you for taking the time to make this video!

This makes me feel so much better! Unfortunately I don’t have me a horse or the land needed but I have been roping for fun since high school. I can head and heel the dummy but I was watching actual team ropings and I always noticed the heeler releases their hand flat. So I had been trying to catch like I saw on a live steer but very little luck. So, to make a long story short…YES!!!

Thank you so much for this video! I'm around a ton of ropers and everyone of them tell me something different, but never break things down like shown here. I'm going to take this info and run with it! Again, thank you so much:)

Mr99939, Thanks for watching the videos. As long as your bottom strand is coming back to you under the feet, then you can work on placing the top strand as high or low as you want to on the right leg. The higher the better. The higher your top strand (with bottom coming back to you) the bigger and more open your loop is.

Mr99939, As a beginner, your target should be to hit the hock (that joint in the steers hind leg half way up) with your top strand. As you develop your delivery, you start looking at both legs and making sure your swing is covering the area of the legs and when you deliver your loop is more than plenty big enough to catch both feet. So my long answer is, I don't have a target. I just try to cover the area of the feet with my swing so when I deliver I have lots of room for error.

So there are 2 types of heel loops the sweep style and the trap. Do you ever throw the trap style? Thank you for your videos, they are excellent!

Hey Catman, So your tip is coming around nicely but your bottom strand is kicking out. Do this for me, rope the feet without letting go of anything ten times in a row. Then on the 11th time, do the same exact thing and let go of your loop AFTER your rope hits the right leg. You should notice that your bottom came right back to you and you get a huge curl on your rope. 2 other things: You have too much between your hands. Your tip isn't to the left and your not delivering with your hand vertical

Dru. when i make my throw my bottom strain comes back so far that my top strain goes forward an just falls down. then it looks like a big zero laying there.
