Drummer reacts to "No God" (Live) by BAND-MAID

Музыка

So this was a huge change from "Thrill".... like wow. What a different sound. I heard prog, death metal, speed metal, and more.... so many influences! This was great. It's so cool to see them all grown up compared to the last video.

So during this song you enjoyed both the “groovy af” part and the fast progressive parts… so I have a specific recommendation There is a double live video that is “Manners/Blackhole” The first song is a whole song of groovy classic style rock that’s got their flair, followed by the progressive insanity that is Blackhole. It gives you a real feel of their range

They don't stick to any one genre and often mix them in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive 10 year back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and bad-ass musicians to boot.

Good reaction. Dont give yourself a headache trying to mistakenly place a genre on these ladies because you will always be wrong. Band-Maid is a "genre" and as you listen to more tracks you'll understand. The closest I believe you can come to a genre label is to say they play rock music. I might be biased because IMO they are the best band in the world today and arguably ever. Been listening to music and going to concerts for almost 55 (I'm 66 yrs young) years and I am truly amazed at the composition skills and the very hard work Band-Maid does and accomplishes.

BAND-MAID: Saiki - (Ice Queen) lead vocals Akane - (Gorilla) drums. Jimmy Page heard her play at a show and wanted to meet her backstage. Misa - (Barefoot Assassin) bass Kanami - (Mincho) lead guitar, songwriter Miku - (Small Pigeon) rhythm guitar, backing vocals, lyricist. She founded the band in 2013 with the idea of playing hard rock while wearing maid outfits. Miku didn’t know how to play guitar when she started the band. Kanami taught her.

Even if they didnt get a writing credit on a song, that comes down to lyrics and melody alone. Apart from the first album where they had zero latitude for anything, every song has their unmistakable fingerprint on it. They wouldn't still be pulling out songs from the early albums live if they didn't feel like it still represented who they are.

@@jeffersoncosgrove1910 I wasn’t trying to say anything bad about it. Obviously the early stuff that was written for them, which was actually the first 3 albums, is important. I mean they wouldn’t be where they are today if the music video for Thrill was never released. I’m simply saying that there is a big difference in the stuff they compose themselves, and it’s for the better because it’s something that Kanami fought tooth and nail to be able to do.

The Maids are diverse. Notice how in 20 comments you have about 15 different recommendations 😂. With a 10-year catalog, they have 100+ songs to choose from and there are so many great songs. Here’s my typical advice for getting to know the band… A typical recommendation, as others will say, is to see more of them LIVE playing some older songs next: Check out: - “Domination”- official live video (2018) Then, they just added two must watch official live videos from their January 9, 2023 concert - “No God” - official live video (which you just saw) ✅ - “Puzzle” - official live video Then watch: - “Real Existence” - official live video (2014) - “Freedom”- official live video (2016) - “Onset” - official live video (2017), instrumental magic - “Play” - official live video (2018) Then I recommend you jump several years forward to some newer songs to see how they’ve developed since then. They’ve grown in every aspect over their years. This band does not stand still!!! They released the new “Unleash” EP in September 2022 and have three recent MVs, including - “Influencer” - official MV - “Unleash!!!!!” - official anime MV - “From Now On- official MV, more instrumental magic! Take care, enjoy the journey, and rock on 🤘🏼🔥🎸🥁🎤🎼😀✌🏼

OMNG! The way Band-Maid blends genres into very dense yet super integrated music with new guitar tones (Kanami's first run in No God, for instance); Akane's drum patterns, fills and beats which go beyond any rock drumming we've ever heard; MISA's second-lead runs and slap/pick/finger techniques; Miku's unusual second vocal work and lyrics; and Saiki's rapid-fire, powerful singing style... all has Band-Maid if not busting new trails out of their core genre, then certainly setting new trends in rock music for all rock musicians to consider and be inspired by. In short, I'd say Band-Maid is making waves by setting new playing, performance, and prolific work ethic standards that we'll see the results of for years to come. They've upped the game for all to follow! Thx, Lee!

So this is actually way better in person. I actually prefer decent fancams over this video. This version mixed out the crowd noise, so you can't hear the crowd singing along. In older live videos from their other concert you can hear the crowd and the entire call and response. This is their prog song, which as it turns out you can have an entire a prog song in 4 1/2 minutes lol. Not every song is like this, but they advanced quite a bit since Thrill. If you want something a little more pop-rock like Thrill, I would suggest Choose Me. Or if you want Prog-Punk-Metal, Black Hole has a video from their online only show (C19 restrictions, so no live audience). If you want to see a better representation of the energy at a live show, watch Domination LIVE, Play live or Freedom live.

Band-Maid is in the Band-Maid genre. “No god” seems to me proggy pop rock, and “Thrill” is more conventional hard rock. (Not Maid written) As a blues/rock guy, neither are in my top 20 or so Band-Maid songs. “DICE,” official music video is hard rock done Maid-proper. So is “Moratorium,” although the video may not be on KZread. For prog rock, I love their instrumentals “Onset” and “From Now On.” For solid examples of what Band-Maid is really about I usually suggest “Blooming,” “Play,” or “Bubble.” Honestly, you could ask for a “best” song from ten fans and get ten different songs. And none of them would be wrong. If you forced me to name one song for your next reaction? That I think you’d enjoy? “DICE.” 🎲

The drummer, Akane, had to lose the hat a few years ago. It was called the "tiny hat" by her fans. Gave her a headache. Her nickname is "Gorilla". In a lot of their U.S. tour live performances last year, she would eat a banana on stage, autograph the peel, and heave it into the audience. You would see a dozen or two audience members with bananas themselves. They love to interact face to face with the crowd, sometimes, IMO, asking them stupid questions like "Do you like our music?", when it's obvious that there could only be one answer, "FUCK YEAH!" When Miku, rhythm guitar, formed the band, she was working in a "Maid Cafe". Miku's premise was, "Let's dress up all cute and then rip their faces off with badass rock!". So, they are all suppose to be maid outfits, long backstory to that but basically, the vocalist, Saiki, and the bassist, Misa, said "We're not fucking wearing that shit!". So they came up with variations to fit in. Misa's nickname is "The Barefoot Assassin". She plays barefoot, and the assassin part is obvious, because she kills everything!

That was an odd fade-out for Band-Maid, can't explain that since Akane usually has classic LIVE Rock endings. Recommending "Domination" official LIVE video, "Puzzle" official LIVE (from same show as No God) Band-Maid Is: Akane Hirose (Ah-kah-nee or Ah-kah-nay) -Drums Nickname: “Ah-chan” and "Gorilla" because she eats bananas for her stamina and is a BEAST on drums. Lost her little hat back in 2018....a sad day indeed. MISA (Mee-sah) - Bass Guitar Nickname: "The Barefoot Assassin" MISA always performs barefoot as she states she like to feel the music through her feet, and "kills" everything she plays. Kanami Tono (Kah-nah-mee) - Lead Guitar/Genius Songwriter Nickname: "Mincho" “Kanamincho” Miku Kobato(Mee-koo) -Rhythm Guitar/Lyricist/Founder/Backing Vocals/Lead Vocals. Hardest working girl in music. Nickname: "Little Pigeon" (Miku’s surname means “Little Pigeon”) ....po! Getting caught up in Band-Maid means going down the “Pigeon Hole”…….. no rabbits here. Saiki Atsumi (Sy-kee) -Lead Vocals Nickname: "The Princess" “Si-chan” Kanami's love interest. Saiki is the Princess but Miku is Queen.
