yeah i find it more impressive when a drummer know when to sit back and does a lot of cymbol work rather than just drums. dude knows when to use what.

@@Fleato he get those ideas from Tim Henson (their guitarist and composer) with his hiphop compositions. Tim makes poppy beats then arranges them with the band.

I'm not a drummer by any stretch, but I love watching people play drums who can really play the drums. I love Polyphia but so much goes on in their music that I can't isolate all that's going on. so watching him play is an absolute dream and pleasure. what an incredibly talented guy.

I wasn't looking in a mirror the first time I saw this video, so I'm glad to be able to see your reactions, as a reference to my own amazement.

Would Highly recommend Matt Garstka from Animals as Leaders. He has drum playthroughs of quite a few of his songs. I'd recommend Inner Assassins, but really you can't go wrong with any of his videos... he even does a fun take on Missy Elliot's Get Your Freak On, which is wild.

I absolutely love how he brings the rap and hip hop type "trap high hats" into the rock/metal world it's so cool and done so well by clay. they site rap as an influence a lot and you can definitely hear it on the drums. also each member of the band is one of the best there is at their respective instruments in my opinion and it's so cool how in most of their songs each player gets their time to shine where they get a little solo section. so so cool

Cant believe I have not seen a comment regarding your greeting to start the video. You said "What's up ANDREW? It's YOU TUBE again." Hilarious...anyway keep posting vids. They are awesome, and this one is no exception.

Been playing Tama since 1990 and have no desire to change. Mainly because Lars, Lombardo and Charlie Benante who were my first influences and who I most modeled my playing after all played Tama.

Alot going on with this song huh? I take ot they are instrumentalists? 🤟 Gonna check um out when i fin work!!

Until I bumped into Polyphia's "Playing God" video, I didn't know who Clay Aeschliman was. I didn't know who any of them were except Tim Henson. Now I can't go a day without watching "Playing God"……at least several times. Clay Aeschliman seems to have a unique style that fits the band exquisitely. I'm new to your channel, so I don't know if you've featured Aron Mellergard, Dirty Loops' drummer extraordinaire. If not, you might want to listen to "Work Shit Out" first for its mind-melting Drum Solo.

I kept hearing you make comments about the gear, but never heard you say anything about Clay. I'm so impressed by his skill. Danny Carey was always my favorite percussionist, but there are a handful of drummers now that seem to be mimicking his style well. I don't know, Clay sounds how I would prefer my own drumming to sound. I like that super technical style, but it still has a good amount of groove to it. I think he's nailed it!

I love your videos man. I feel like it would be way cooler if you got a little technical sometimes. I mean, you're a drummer and a teacher. It would be cool to hear your thoughts on some of the techniques, and actual beats and rhythms and junk. Especially since you dont know most of the guys you review. I just think it would be cool to hear you relate to it in a musical way as well. Nice work.

I find it hard to understand clay as a drummer and understand how "good" he is. Its like Kurt Cobain on the guitar, his writing is leaps and bounds better than his technique and thats what made him great, if that makes sense. Is clay technically very good? Is the stuff he plays actually that hard? What are his strengths? Id be really curious to know from you or anyone! Love your videos and love your channel!

Let's take it way back in the KZread days. Have you watched any vadrum videos? He posted some great video game/tv medleys and classical music remixes about 12 years ago. This drummer is insane but underappreciated. Some fans want him out of the band just because of how he looks, but the pure skill he puts in Polyphia alone surely means a lot to them.

I wish I could be that sexually intimate with anything as clay is with his hi hat
