Polyphia might be a "guitar based" band but they're highly rhythmic and they let their rhythm section "breathe" instead of pushing their rhythm section. Yes Tim and Scott are total savages on the guitar, but their bassist and dummer are absolute monsters too

The drummer has come up with a very unique and good style of playing. Creating rhythm for Tim’s technical and “weird” riffs is something that seems very challenging. It takes some serious musicianship to understand rhythm through those killer guitar riffs. Awesome work by them!

6:56 Being a professional composer and music producer, I can only agree with you. Mixing can eventually fix that type of issue. But it's always better to write and arrange the music in such a way that those issues don't occur. This is a more natural way to make all the instruments hearable, and doing this, you often end up with an arrangement and an harmonic content way more intricate and interesting. Polyphia understood this and it is what makes them great. There are a lot of good musicians, good writers and arrangers, all over the world. Those guys are all of these at the same time.

What you said ~14:50 regarding the technical playing vs an actual song is EXACTLY how I feel about this style of music . I found Polyphia and fell hard, so I started looking for other artists, and they all seem to miss that mark. They all go down technical rabbit holes where , yes, it's impressive..... but it doesn't hit the right feeling of a song. Polyphia has a very unique element with the hip hop/trap inspired beats, because they hook you with the catchy riifs, then backhand you with technicality in between each head nod.

Great analysis! Loved listening to it! If you want a great live recording they have a warmup session of them playing 40 oz which is an excellent song by them! You should also check out Jason Richardson! He is the guitarist that Replaced Tosin Abasi (animals as leaders) in Born of Osiris and has since gone on to write his own solo album. Nick Sampson is their producer. He's involved with the songwriting process in a lot of the post production and in the studio with them. you should check out his band I Am Abomination, he's a TERRIFYING guitar player.

It feels almost like Caribbean music at the start, and I just can't hear the rest of the song without feeling that vibe We definitely enjoyed that. A lot more intense than GOAT but just as impressive and bingeabel
