    Meinl's stable of drummers is insane. Clay, Benny Greb. Mike Johnston, Chris Coleman, Nick Baglio, Nathan Bulla. The list just keeps going and then they give us content like this for free all the time.

    Easily one of my favorite things about Polyphia as a whole, the amount of dynamic song structure, technical finesse and just a passion to make the coolest shit with the skill to bring that to life. It’s crazy to see what these guys manage to pull off without the standard tools artists usually use to tell their stories

    Silly Conspiracy Theory: The band is big-braining and are fully aware of the difference in characteristics of sound. This way, their listeners that tune into certain aspects of their production (like live-sounding drums or playthroughs) are even more appreciative of their skill, leading to even deeper appreciation of the music and the band. 🤔 Was the case for me and seeing them play Genesis with Brasstracks live. That, was definitely an awesome experience.

  • @SothorosDjents

    @SothorosDjents

    @@EricGonzaloI don’t follow your argument, though I kind of see what you’re getting at… maybe? The point stands, regardless of their intentions or big brains. Most fans of Polyphia who also play drums, would prefer to simply hear real drum tracks over highly sample-replaced tracks. I will say, I think the hip hop drum production could work really well over select parts, as many metal bands use during interludes and bridges. I just don’t think they do the songs justice when it’s the ONLY drum sound throughout the album. You know? Use it when it fits; don’t when it doesn’t.

  • @EricGonzalo

    I'm not arguing anything, more like pondering that they're leaving lots of room for interpretation of their work. For people that enjoy the electronic music production aspect, the analog drum sounds, the virtosic instrument masteries, the catchy "pop" hooks, their blending of genres, they've got something anyone can enjoy. In this case, they "overproduce drums" so that they can do natural-sounding Sponsor features (or bring their live experience to another level) to showcase another angle of their music and skillful performance!
