The thing about Joey was that, although he was amazing drummer, he wasn't the best drummer in the world. But people often forget that he was a *pioneer* in this sort of drumming. Nowadays, there's a whole host of amazing drummers, but he brought energy, showmanship, blast beats, fast snare rolls, double kicks, and standout groovy drumming in the late 90s and early 2000s to the mainstream that no one had really heard before. That's why he was such an inspiration and a huge influence on thousands of drummers today. That's why he deserves all the recognition that he gets and cements his legend status.

Joey was a PIONEER for modern metal drummers and he absolutely deserves to be enshrined in the hall of fame. Many people seem to forget he drummed (and played guitar) in multiple bands besides Slipknot and his contributions to music should not be overlooked. He lived a life everyone should be envious of and I hope he left this earth with no regrets. I don't mean to detract from Joey's accomplishments but since he came onto the scene there have been countless other drummers who have paved the way for inspiring fans to pick up a pair of sticks. I recommend looking into Tomas Haake, Danny Carey, Chris Adler, Ken Bedene, George Kollias, Gene Hoglan, Mario Duplantier, Jay Weinberg, and countless others. Let's celebrate Joey's life by celebrating deserving drummers who are still on this earth. NOW GO BLAST SOME SLIPKNOT AND ENJOY LIFE

I have been listening to Slipknot since their first album and his snare sound was the one I was trying to achieve. After ten years of playing his snare to this day I am completely hyped whenever we do rehearsals. Joey was an incredible drummer and he had such an influence on many drummers. Oh yeah, when he butchered Creeping Death, sorry I have massive bias against Joey. It seems like his personal touch on a cover is adding loads more kick. It's bloody horrible, not everything needs more kick. I've never liked Slipknot either and I've always thought that he was the most overrated drummer of all time. Everyone who likes Slipknot see's him as a god, when he's really not, "omg he can drum upside down", who cares? I suppose you can chalk most of this up to opinion and taste, his style probably works in Slipknot, just not in Metallica. Having said all this I am sorry to see him go, he had a long battle with a neurological disease that screwed his leg up so he couldn't drum, then he only makes it to 46. He deserved better and I hope his family find peace in that he felt nothing in his passing.

I saw Slipknot live around 15-20 years ago, and Joey had his set on a large platform, which I thought was just to give him more visibility. In the middle of the set, he started a really nuts drum solo, and while he was playing, the platform started raising in the air with the use of like a hydraulic scissor lift, then the platform turned sideways to face the audience (He and his chair were strapped to it), revealing a pentagram on the floor of the platform, and then the platform started spinning, all while he was still playing a solo. Absolutely nuts, still never seen anything like it, 15-20 years later.

Really strange to hear about his passing two days ago. 46 years old.... shiiit! He became almost instaneously one of the new "benchmark" in Metal drumming when Slipknot hit commercial success. There was Dave Lombardo in the 80's, Vinnie Paul in the 90's, and then Joey Jordison in the 2000's, that's how important he was for Metal drumming (imo). A powerful and brutal groove machine, with a very distinct style, his fills and drum sound are unmistakable. Unlike what most of the comments say, please don't react to the "Disasterpieces" solo (well it is great but very short and also does not really show how he was special sounding drummer). Honeslty, People = Shit live is much better and showcase more his abilities and drumming style.

Ironically we all play Joey's style because he was super articulate and academically technical and unfathomanably accurate factoring things such as stamina, speed, timing and intricacy, the average listener will gloss right over the intelligence behind blending the intensity associated to the style with the basic scholarly knowledge and ever present acknowledgement of the technical skill as well as having a neo~classically philosophical mindset paired with an undeniable ability cloaked in a psudo~intellectual persona... Joey was a sick drummer but what set him apart was his writing. What he wrote was just so unique, memorable and fun to listen to. Listening to pieces of songs can never do justice to what he created because you don't get the dynamics. If you're truly interested in Joey I recommend listening to the Iowa album from start to finish. That album is still in my eyes the most viscious, aggressive release and still to this day one of my favourite albums surpassed only by Such is life by Dead Kelly, an Australian band I also can't recommend high enough
