when i was 17, Joey Jordison called my house and talked to me on the phone for about an hour. he was promoting the Slipknot fan club after their first album released, and he was trying to get me to be part of the fan club team because one of my good friends was also on the team. he was soooooooo humble and down to earth and actually seemed interested in talking to me. we talked about all kinds of random shit, like 2 friends just shooting the breeze. then he sent me a huge box of Slipknot merchandise for free in the mail. i have major respect for this dude. he's truly a great guy.

I am a very young fan and never really saw Joey in concert, but in my heart he is still a legend. Jay may not be Joey but Joey isn’t Jay, he got me into the drums and he really holds a special place in my heart. To hear that he called your house sounds really sick bro! Don’t listen to all the other fucks who are saying this is a lie.

@@ShinyFlakesShinyFlakes well I think it's pretty obvious how he died. Transverse melanitis (probably spelled wrong) Joey himself didn't even know about it when he was "fired" and the band probably thought it was due to him abusing drugs so with their history with Paul gray, they were probably extremely upset with Joey, not knowing the real issue. They cut ties with Joey, probably thinking that some day he could rejoin the band if he got healthy again (he had to be carried on stage.) So I don't believe he was going to be permanently fired. I'm assuming here that it was more of a forced break to focus on his health.

Sigh. Not sure why this comment thread is so hostile. If I could offer my 2 cents, as a slipknot fan and huge Joey fan (the band needs him back imo--it hasn't been the same since). He was indeed let go (in effect). What I read between the lines via interviews was that band members thought Joey was doing too many drugs, perhaps performing bad and/or making unreasonable demands of the group (drug-driven). Joey said it was a health issue and he was on medication (his justification for the issues) The truth might be somewhere in the middle. That said, the band was known to party really, really hard. They are rockstars after all. Corey said Iowa was recorded while they were in a really unhealthy place with the partying which may have foreshadowed things to come. An overdose later killed one of their members. Having followed them for 20 years, my instinct tells me Joey was dealing with some substance abuse issues and acting out but who knows. More importantly, it seems Joey is healthy now. I'm sure there's a few things he would have done differently in hindsight. I do hope to see him in Slipknot again someday. He's a fantastic songwriter and the missing piece in that band.

He's not healthy or happy he's actually in a very bad situation. Slipknot didn't make money from their first albums due to bad contract. Only $ they made was from touring and split among 9 guys and big crew. So he never earned rock star cash at the peak of his popularity. Now he's years out from that with no steady gig and huge medical bills. He's broke and basically supported by friends and family.

I’ve been playing drums since 1977, and have performed in 11 countries on 6 continents. I shared the same drum teacher as Carmine and Vinny Appice. It’s always struck me as bizarre how some fans hate an artist as a person just because they don’t like the artist’s music or playing style. Go figya.

I think it says a lot that I've never really heard Joey, at least recently as far as I know, say anything negative about anyone or anything. Especially Slipknot. He always speaks very highly of everyone, even though he has reason to do the opposite. Says a lot about his character and just who he is in general. While I don't him personally, he seems like an incredible humble, kind, respectful person. More people need to be like that...just kind, decent human beings. If anything, he's just shy and awkward in situations like this, which to be fair...a lot of us are, and he's definitely an introvert. There's nothing wrong with that at all. It's easy to say things behind a screen about someone we don't even know. Reminder that Joey is human. He's been through a lot, just like a lot of us. He may not be at his prime anymore, but he's still kicking and honestly looking good all things concerned with medication. He seems happy. He seems at ease and at peace with what has happened. I admire and respect the absolute hell out of this dude. He could have an ego...but he doesn't. Just listen to what he says and how he says it. He's just really, really, really passionate. Above all...he loves the absolute hell out of his fans and supporters and does all he can to give back to them and is always around whenever he's touring. I've even heard of him stopping, chatting, and taking photos with fans even when he's out and about not on tour or anything to do with it. He doesn't care. He'll give you his undivided attention. He's a dope guy. He really is. That's all I'm saying. I hate reading all the negative shit about him, especially on aspects of his appearance. Just stop. There's no need for that...give the guy a break.

I love this comment so much! Exactly how I feel about Joey. My heart is broken because of his passing, which I still can't really process.. I've been thinking a lot about him recently and how much of an inspiration he is, first and foremost because of his decency and the respect he had for everyone, despite having been treated with utter disrespect in the past. My heart hurts when I watch some of his interviews; I know he has said that he was able to move on with his life after being fired from Slipknot, but sometimes you could just tell that he was still deeply hurt by how everything went down. Just hope that he can find his peace, he deserves it so much.

R.I.P. my dude, I'm sure your aware of all the lives you saved with your music and how many kids you inspired to be drummers. I was that kid. You saved my life with Slipknots music and inspired me to become a drummer. You'll always be my #1

3:15 Joey's Mom and Stepdad are good people....his stepdad played yakkity sax for me at their kitchen table. I feel horrible for his Sisters..they all were super close. First and only time I spent getting drunk for a full week was with his Sister. Great great people. RIP Joey.

Not into Slipknot so much these days but this guy was my idol when I was a kid. His drumming blew my little mind and got me into drumming and I still play drums today so got a lot of respect for this guy. 26 now but was 8 when I first heard them. So good to watch this and see he's a real down to earth sound guy, it's a real shame he got dropped from Slipknot.
