Enjoy Nico as long as you can. He had a stroke in January but has fought through it. At the beginning of this current tour, he was actually ridiculed for being off. Then it came out about the stroke and the negativity quickly became positive because even though he was slightly paralyzed, he persevered. He's better now, but Father Time is a prick and will eventually take him from us. Up the Irons and Up Nico!

Please check anything from their legendary Rock in Rio concert in 2001. It was the last show of the tour of the Brave New World album released in 2000, the first one after Bruce and Adrian return to the band in 99 (Bruce Left in 93 and adrian left in 89). So it's also the first record of Maiden with 03 guitarrists. This tour was legendary and the DVD they recorded in Rock in Rio was an absolutely beast. I was at this gig and i can affirm i was sensational. You should definetly check it out.

There are many reasons why they have managed to stay on top of their game for almost 50 years. I remember this night very well. It was a very hot evening in June in Gothenburg. Amazing experience to be there with 50000+ other fans. I brought my 14-year old step daughter and cemented a life-long love for metal with her 😀 They also sent it live on Swedish television and radio, reachable from Norway, Denmark and Finland too so potentially about 25 million people could enjoy it. Amazing one-off.

It would be worth going back and checking out some of the recordings with Clive Burr on drums. He was a fantastic drummer, too, with a slightly different feel from Nicko. Also, with Paul Di’Anno on vocals, who was terrific on the first two albums, if not so impressively operatic as Bruce Dickinson.

Fine reaction. I shall admit how wrong I was, because I've been an Iron Maiden fan for a long time, since I was a kid, and, by that time, just when I got to know Maiden's sound, the drummer, Clive Burr, was leaving the band (me and my fellows, Maiden's fans, we used to think that there could not exist a drummer better than Clive), and so someone with a strange name came up - Nicko McBrain, and I remember that we asked: "Who is this guy? Is it possible that he's got what it takes to be the drummer in our favorite band?" We could not be wronger than this! I regret asking these questions! Nicko is the best drummer live! Since Neil Peart's death, he has been the greatest one!

I couldn't agree more on the delivering part on stage. I always used to tell my band members "If u can't perform in practice as if u were on stage, then u'd most probably won't give out your best out there" It does not matter who is in the crowd or who is not. If you don't enjoy what you do, no one else will enjoy your music.

I was there, it's my all time favorite concert with maiden and also maybe ever. They only played songs from the first 7 albums. This was also famously (for swedish rockers) aired live on TV at the same time. We traveled to Gothenburg by car and SO many others did that the highways were all packed with cars with maiden banners, flags, stickers etc. The whole thing was almost like spiritual journey xD PS: I'm a bassist, the bassline he plays at 6:28 and onwards was like a milestone in my bass development, one of the coolest and fun riffs you can play!

I first saw Iron Maiden live in 1982 at the beginning of the Number Of The Beast tour a week or two before the album hit the stores. It was an epic gig and so memorable for the performance of "Hallowed Be Thy Name" that was the first time that I had heard it. The band were so tight even with the new boy Bruce on vocals, I saw them again later that year now having listened to the album many times and they sounded just as tight as the record. That was when they had Clive Burr on drums who in my humble opinion managed to do so much with a small kit. I saw them many times during the 80's and early 90's and every time they were so tight playing some tracks faster or slower but always perfectly in sync. I lost touch for a while with girls, jobs, houses etc taking my time and money. Over the last few years it's been great to catch up on that lost time and the band are till at the top of there game. Senjutsu the current album seems just as fresh as the 1st self titled album. I hope I get to see them live again at some point. Nico is an incredible percussionist, so accurate and metronomic but somehow adds feeling to the way he plays just like the other members of the band. Many thanks for sharing.

Nicko has some videos were the camera is recording him all the time, those are not videos from a concert, but from some events he participates. I would love to see you commenting Nicko skill in some of this videos. Videos exemplo: Adams Drummersfestival 2012 - Nicko McBrain

Nikko is the only drummer I've ever heard of who makes the parts harder over the years, keeps adding to them. It's natural to do the opposite and simplify everything, especially after playing it hundreds of times. He does the opposite. Very few drummers that can compare to Nikko. He's got the same energy and technical ability as like Tommy Aldridge, but only one bass drum. The closest I've ever seen would be Leonard Haze, the original drummer for Y&T. Super aggressive, hit them like the drums talked shit about his mom and had great composition. 🤘🧙‍♂️🤘 Rich the Ancient Metal Beast

Someone who spent 40 years destroying Clive Burr's legacy wouldn't call him a virtuous drummer. Nicko in his songs is gigantic, but he has nothing to do with the Clive era. He spits on his songs constantly.

Like you said, Maiden are the perfect combination of musical execution and stagecraft. They're actually not the tightest band out there...I've witnessed more than a few sloppy moments from them over the years, but overall, they're tight as hell considering the complexity and length of a lot of their songs, along with how much they move around onstage. Watching Steve Harris in his 60s run from one wing of the stage to the other while cranking out extremely fast basslines while rarely missing a beat always makes my jaw drop.

Wasn't at this one, but I did fly over from Scotland to see them in this stadium on the 2008 Somewhere Back in Time tour (the same tour that your reaction to Rime was on) and the energy was electric. Standing in the scorching summer heat wasn't much fun, but seeing Rime live was top notch. I completely agree with your tangent at the end as well. Yeah, there's only 5 of us watching you, but if you go out and put 100% into your show and I like your music, I'm gonna bring folk with me next time!

Need to watch then live version of 'Aces High' where there is a near scale Spitfire hanging above the stage or 'Power Slave' from the 1985 Live after Death concert DVD where a huge Eddie walks out on the stage and interacts with the band. EPIC!

Iron Maiden have been around since 1975, admittedly with different band members, but they are so tight and so professional live. It’s almost like fine wine 🍷 or well aged cheese 🧀

Hi Andrew! Great insight in regards to the 'job'. What I saw in that video is a group of musicians who show up STONE COLD SOBER for work to do their collective jobs. I've always believed that is a key to that kind of success, that kind of performance. Sure, have a drink after work, why not, you've hopefully earned it. But when you show up for work you'ld better be straight and sober.😎

Maiden used normally the single or album covers as backdrops. Some songs get some tours new backdrops, or they used similar brackdrops/tourlogos for some songs. Excample Phantom of the opera single type backdrop The Trooper Aces High 2 Minutes to Midnight Dance of Death Brave new World ...

Check out anything from Live At Hammersmith in 1982. Clive Burr on drums, just as good as Nicko but I reckon he has a bit more of the classic british( or Ringo if you prefer ) swing in his playing. ps This song got me into maiden through the classic Lucozade advert on tele. :)

You really need to hear Clive Burr. Different style and feel than Nicko, but equally astounding. Absolutely ridiculous right hand speed. Try Murders in the Rue Morgue, Killers, really anything from the Killers album or The Beast Over Hammersnith, live in 82

You can't argue about taste for obvious reasons, but I still prefer this song with Paul Di'Anno or the version from Live After Death. Paul had a more punkish ( is this a proper and valid word?) voice tone, but Bruce really excells in the live recording. The band has very high standards, but Nicko is in a class of his own. Even though you can't see him, you know he's there because all the drum set is shaken. This man is like an octopus hitting everything and doing the most beautiful sounds and rhythms, without missing one note. Simply amazing. Edit: spelling

i believe the back drop is rear projected, it is the cover of the 12" PotO IM release. the difference in style is that this is from ... Killers , I think, and it and Iron Maiden were a bit different in some of the styling as the band was developing, but the vocalist was completely different. in my opinion more punk metal than bruces melodic almost theatrical / lyrical style. I like the first two records - still have my Killers back patch from my youth in the 80s, buy generally I will listen to the later versions of the songs from those albums live on Live After Death as that is the album i listen to most being the first big name performance i ever attended. (World Slavery Tour)... it actuality was what really got me interested in stage production work and how all of it worked. I have done a bit of local stage work for bands and theaters. I like working with the people and helping pull it off, but rarely have ever taken the stage during... much rather be behind the scenes...
