Wow, that Tama Starclassic maple kick has got some serious click on it. I personally like the acrylic kick the best, but I would definitely layer the two kicks for extra attack and punch. That green snare in the beginning was killer too.

Wonderful! I am personally amazed as ex drummer (14 years).Looking forward to try them.I just wish they have raw sounds without all those processing as an option.

I like the mixing layout for each piece; IMO, it's laid-out better, and has more of a "real" function mixer-GUI than other drum sampling programs I've used ( Slate, Superior, BFD). As a side note, for those who might have been confused by James mispronouncing the third mic on the kick channel as "REZO" ... LOL... it's actually an "RE-20", which is a Variable-D dynamic mic, made by EV. It's a well-known broadcast/vocal mic, but is also commonly used as a kick drum mic, too.(Actually, I've always preferred the EV RE-20 as a kick mic over the more popular D112, but that's a personal preference thing, based on styles). Also, the mic he referred to as "recording man" - the one labeled "R Mon" - is most likely a "Room Mono" Mic channel. The R121 would most likely be a Royer 121 Ribbon, with the last two, the OH and Room channels, both being stereo arrays... Although, I'm happy to be corrected if my assumptions above are incorrect.

Serious question - what version/type/whatever of kontakt are you using? I want to make sure that I get a version that will be as easy to use and compatible as this one.

I'm amazed, you mention the fact that there is, "other stuff out there" but you fail to mention BFD3 which has to be the best on the market right now for unprocessed raw drums. Slate drums are extremely processed. When you say they, "Actually sound like drums" are you saying that BFD3 or Superior don't? I'm not saying this isn't good, this IS very good and definitely on a par with the platinum sample library that ships with BFD3. If only drumforge made this BFD3 compatible then I'd consider buying it. Slate and kontakt are two of the worst interfaces for mixing on the market in my opinion and yes, I have both. I just had a listen to the Fibes toms that shipped with BFD2 and I suggest you do too as they both sound very good and well recorded but the BFD2 ones were made 9 years ago.

True, but then DRumforge is, 'just' a library where as BFD3 is a complete drum mixing and production environment so you're getting a lot more for your money and in that sense it's not really a like for like comparison. I contacted drumforge to ask if they might be planning a BFD3 compatible version as it's far better (in my view) to work with than kontakt or slate. They said they're working on creating their own drum player which they hope will be on a par with BFD3. Be interesting to see if they can improve on it.

I'm agree with you, Steven. BFD3 is better than this one. Is heavy to load on DAW, but is worth it. I think that Drumforge is walking by the right way.

great but I don't have the platinum version. seems wrong that you have to pay more for an, "unprocessed" version of the same kits. Surely they should be cheaper?

Eh, just kind of had an emotional panic reaction when I wrote that- but yes, DrumForge was a special purchase for me and I had a very clear use for it- I don't have any use for Kontakt other than to trigger drumforge, doesn't make me cheap just cuz I don't want to unnecessarily shell out $500 or whatever it is running these days. I just didn't read the fine print very well I guess! I got it doing what I needed it to though :)

I have ezdrummer 1,its kick ass, 2 has some more bells and whistles worth getting/looking into, the drums have an OK sound to start, to get killer tone, you have to mix each piece separately, also I use the samples as templates, an adjust to taste with the daw piano roll. I feel if I had this I'd be doing the same work flow a bit faster... If you have no experience using/tweaking drum software, either product would be a blast!
