Great feature, gives players incentive to work together at times so as to prevent thermonuclear war. I hope however, that they seriously updated the AI, because if nukes were this destructive with the unreasonable and often bipolar AI in civ 5, the games on fun difficulty levels would probably all have ended in nuclear war.

Templarkiller Gaming True, although it will be hard to get sight as spies now die when you nuke the city and sending enough will take a couple of turns, so if it is inland behind other cities it will be hard. But if it a coastal city i doubt it will be a problem.

I still think they should add a second strike system in the game where if you nuke a civilization they already have pre planned retaliation nukes set to nuke right back on your cities. Lets say they add an option where you can have a planned first strike with pre set destinations set by you where your nukes will go. Then you click commence first strike and ALL of the nukes launch at your enemy at once then if they have a second strike set up they could have all their nukes launch at you at the same time.... This would be a great game mechanic and would prevent many from using nuclear weapons without thought or if you think your civilization can survive a nuclear war. Would be way better than watching your whole civ get nuked then next turn nuking back in an unrealistic and unpleasing display. as one wise man said "that was a grand display of fireworks!" wish it could be the same in civ 6 and hope they can do nukes right this time, or add it in a future update.

Also you don't expect a nuclear attack and you can't pinpoint exaclty where it is going to hit. Maybe add a penalty for attacks done after a DOW and a defense bonus for citeis. But then people would exploit it hitting the tiles next to city or troops Because Thats the objective of a nuke in the game to kill a bunch of units with a singre strike.

Incorrect info. You can use bombers to deliver nukes as well. Silo and submarine have the same range, 12 hexes for normal nuke, 15 for hydrogen bomb. Also you can defend against them with aa defences (aa guns, SAMs, GDRs and patroling fighers/jet fighters). You can have destroyer patrols looking for enemy subs. You can also erase enemies' nukes in the world congress through a resolution.

I wonder if the "Dead Hand" (or whatever it was called) system is in the game, obtainable through the research or what not, that you can use to automatically retaliate against nuclear strikes, essentially the MAD doctrine. Beyond that, you can see that on the tooltip on the production of nuclear weapons it said "add it to civilization inventory", so I'm guessing nuclear submarines use it or you have to load them beforehand, either way providing another mean of retaliation.

Didn't play Civ 4 so please tell me how that went. I do however know that from a game stand point you have to have a counter balance to these things or you snow ball. You could argue that's the point but it's not healthy game design. Excuse me however I may have been too rash in my judgement. I know full well what a couple well placed nuclear subs in civ 5 can surprise aggressors with a crippled economy. But to say we currently have no defenses today is silly. If they can add Xcom and GDR'S firaxis can manage a missile defense system.

Matty Monticello The scale still fits. Hiroshima only destroyed the city, and the radiation was fairly local. Villages nearby had to deal with a sudden influx of burn patients while they only saw smoke and no fallout. The effects of radiation spread because people and raw materials that were irradiated were spread around by people. If a hydrogen bomb dropped there again then I imagine the entirety of South Japan would be inhospitable and tsunamis would be raging through the pacific. It's a common misconception about the difference in scale between the two nukes. A hydrogen bomb is about ten times the scale that people imagine. Look up the Tsar bomb, it gave people in a village nearly a hundred kilometres away burns when the top crested the horizon, brighter then the sun.
