    @kentB27 I think there might be some variation? I remember my driving instructor mentioning that on some cars they are on different sides of the wheel. Can't remember if it was a Japanese car thing or not though. It might be entirely standardised now and only on older car's?

    In Europe, we have those individual traffic lights as well - but of course for turning left, since we drive on the right side of the road. The difference between a normal light is: It has an arrow pointing left on it, so the arrow lights up instead of just the normal round traffic light shape. When you turn left and have a normal round light without an arrow, you have to wait to cross oncoming traffic.

    You do give way to oncoming traffic if you're turning right and all you have is a green light. The only time you don't have to is when there is also a green right arrow. Sometimes there are intersections where there is a green arrow facing left and/or right that will be green while the main light is red and you can turn in a green direction but not go straight ahead. I thought it worked the same in America?

    Keith Anderson Err...some traffic lights here in NZ do, the ones with a traffic light arrow. But a lot don't, same as the states, both sides get green, and the RH turning cars pick a hole. Even the arrow lights where I live don't always fire up. If there's 1 or 2 cars turning only, it just leaves it as green both ways, no arrow

    You can only turn cross traffic if there is a green arrow (not just a green light). Usually two sides will have greens at once, but a green arrow means it's safe to go without obeying normal giveway rules.

    Wow, that squeaky clutch pedal is annoying! And I thought my clutch pedal was annoying, but it is silent and doesn't really squeak, just feels like it is (kind of a rough, almost jerky motion). First I thought it was the clutch cable, but it didn't change after I exchanged that part (it was cheap, like 10 bucks or so), and now I'll have to look into removing the pedal assembly to get the clutch pedal lubed up...

    I guess being old has it's perks. A mate of mine in the late '80s used to have what appeared to be an original A9X - that is, it was an SS and seemed to have al the goods like floating rear hubs, etc...but there were so many built up from lesser models back then, I can't be sure. Rather like how there used to be more LJ XU-1s on the road than the factory ever produced . Was absolutely frightening for the time, the way it got up and went. :-)

    I've always said that in LHD RHD arguments. It's better to have the dominant hand on the steering wheel since most people are right handed.

    I guess the idea is to have the turn signal under your dominant hand so you can signal while changing gears.

  • @97I30T

    vofs I think in the UK they keep the turn signal stalk on the left side because due to their proximity to other countries that use LHD cars it eliminates some confusion between switching from RHD and LHD.

  • @ooglefluffg857

    @ooglefluffg857

    The dominant hand argument is actually how the trend for left hand drive cars started in America. In the early 20th century, the handbrake and gear lever were typically on the outside of the car, and passengers entered and exited on the passenger side. Most cars at the time were right-hand drive, meaning the driver steered with their left hand and passengers exited into traffic. When Henry Ford came up with the Model T, he logically reversed the layout and this quickly became the standard because of the car's popularity. Today, driving on the left with right-hand drive makes more logical sense. Steering is done with the dominant hand and the dominant eye is positioned closer to oncoming traffic. The evindence is unconclusive, but it's theorised that this is why countries with left-hand traffic have slightly lower accident rates.

    euro here, roundabouts are good for cities on low speed streets where you can't really choose which one should give way, but some idiots tend to put them on longer roads between cities and then you get 4 mile long jams.
