I'm from Victoria, we don't indicate when going straight at a roundabout and there's no problem.
The SLIP diode on Nissans is the traction control light, it lights up when it kicks in... It' the same for most of their cars, at least it is in my 350.

Marley The worst part for me would be the indicator stalk being on the opposite side. I believe cars the UK have the indicator stalk on the left side like most people are used to.

European car in general (even in NZ) has stalk on the same side as the LHD

@kentB27 I think there might be some variation? I remember my driving instructor mentioning that on some cars they are on different sides of the wheel. Can't remember if it was a Japanese car thing or not though. It might be entirely standardised now and only on older car's?
@97I30T

aljowen I have no idea because I live in the US where it’s LHD only. I’ve just noticed that pretty much all RHD cars in Britain have turn signal stalks on the left side.
You know what NZ is missing? BrOwN.

Those slotted mags on the Torana at the beginning. Very nice! Mr. Regular navigated that roundabout like a boss.
In Europe, we have those individual traffic lights as well - but of course for turning left, since we drive on the right side of the road. The difference between a normal light is: It has an arrow pointing left on it, so the arrow lights up instead of just the normal round traffic light shape. When you turn left and have a normal round light without an arrow, you have to wait to cross oncoming traffic.
In California, there is a dedicated left turn cycle on the stop lights. Same thing as you had for right turns in New Zealand.

I've got a 97, bought it when I was 17 turning 18 in a week. Going to be manual swapping it with the money I'll get paid out for quitting my job at the end of the year. Could just buy a manual but too attached to it as it was the first car I ever bought with my own money lol u know how it is
Love it😍
how do you tell the dofference between on coming traffic and a multilane road o.o the lines are only white!
Cheers from a neighbor in Luzerne County; how did you manage to actually leave NEPA?

Champion! I used to have an LX SLR myself, burnt orange, slightly modded (1/4 ' race cams, 1/30'th bore, upped the headers and manifold) used to call it OJ 'cause it was orange and mean enough to kill your missus. I miss that beast... but not the cost. Never the cost. I'm a tight bastard :P Whats the graphic on the side? Don't have insta and I can't make it out.

You do give way to oncoming traffic if you're turning right and all you have is a green light. The only time you don't have to is when there is also a green right arrow. Sometimes there are intersections where there is a green arrow facing left and/or right that will be green while the main light is red and you can turn in a green direction but not go straight ahead. I thought it worked the same in America?
@mrphilgrey
6 жыл бұрын
scary huh?
@kand198
6 жыл бұрын
No what he means is that in america people turning get the go-ahead at the same time as people going straight, whereas here in NZ our traffic lights always make sure the traffic streams never cross.
@Minibull037
6 жыл бұрын
Keith Anderson Err...some traffic lights here in NZ do, the ones with a traffic light arrow. But a lot don't, same as the states, both sides get green, and the RH turning cars pick a hole. Even the arrow lights where I live don't always fire up. If there's 1 or 2 cars turning only, it just leaves it as green both ways, no arrow
@kand198

Where in NZ? Here in auckland I've never seen it except for when the traffic lights have broken down.
@Minibull037

Keith Anderson Yes, Auckland is all of NZ haha. Nelson is where, but I've seen the same in Chch, Dunedin, Timaru, Wellington. Auckland too, this is fairly common where you don't have large traffic volumes eh
I'd go crazy with that clutch pedal squeek. Would have fixed that immediately.
Mr Regular turning Kiwi. Can't complain, definitely one of the nicer accents.
YOURE OVER THE LINE DUDE *no what are you talking about 🌚*
That clutch pedal sounds like my friend's old Nissan Hardbody.
You can only turn cross traffic if there is a green arrow (not just a green light). Usually two sides will have greens at once, but a green arrow means it's safe to go without obeying normal giveway rules.
Does it do hellies tho?
My neighbor here in America has a 90s Skyline, so it's really weird to see an opposite (but correct) side steering wheel.
I went to NZ last year for 2 weeks and rented an MX-5. I did that thing with the wipers at least a hundred times. Also opened the wrong door.
Oh, that Nissan clutch squeak.
Reason why almost every Japanese car have 4wd option is there's some prefectures that have ridiculous amount of snowfall.
@TheJacobshapiro
6 жыл бұрын
Donguk Shin we get just as much snow, if not more, in the northeastern United States. You don’t need AWD if you have a good set of snow tires.
@powershin12
6 жыл бұрын
TheJacobShapiro Well, rural japanese roads are mostly mountainous and some prefecture government(I am not sure about this) force every car to fit winter tyre at certain period of time. I am not so sure about how much snowfall comes at US and Canada.
@Wonginism

Also they don't salt the roads either to my knowledge.
@pauljs75

TheJacobShapiro: Dunno. There are pictures of Japan I've seen that make upstate New York and New England look stupidly tame in comparison. They get a similar weather pattern to the Great Lakes, but it occurs over ocean where it doesn't freeze, and then there are mountains.
@sydneycbr6466
6 жыл бұрын
No you don't, Japan has some of the highest snowfall in the world because of the weather systems that come off of Siberia and over the Sea of Japan.
man no wonder y'all have all those roundabouts.. it must take quite a while for the lights to cycle if they go one at a time.
Holden torona?
Torana!
I get the feeling this gentlemen doesn't know much about his skyline.
Wow, that squeaky clutch pedal is annoying! And I thought my clutch pedal was annoying, but it is silent and doesn't really squeak, just feels like it is (kind of a rough, almost jerky motion). First I thought it was the clutch cable, but it didn't change after I exchanged that part (it was cheap, like 10 bucks or so), and now I'll have to look into removing the pedal assembly to get the clutch pedal lubed up...
no look around?
My CRV's clutch sounds just like that.
You should review my 1995 4runner
So tripy even just watching you drive on the other side of the road. My brain doesn’t like it!
I think I am getting second-hand social ineptitude from the guy in the passenger seat.

I guess being old has it's perks. A mate of mine in the late '80s used to have what appeared to be an original A9X - that is, it was an SS and seemed to have al the goods like floating rear hubs, etc...but there were so many built up from lesser models back then, I can't be sure. Rather like how there used to be more LJ XU-1s on the road than the factory ever produced . Was absolutely frightening for the time, the way it got up and went. :-)
I've always said that in LHD RHD arguments. It's better to have the dominant hand on the steering wheel since most people are right handed.
@97I30T
6 жыл бұрын
ELLIPSIS I wouldn’t mind RHD but I would definitely prefer the turn signal stalk on the left side like it is in UK RHD cars.
@user-lk2vo8fo2q
6 жыл бұрын
I guess the idea is to have the turn signal under your dominant hand so you can signal while changing gears.
@97I30T
6 жыл бұрын
vofs I think in the UK they keep the turn signal stalk on the left side because due to their proximity to other countries that use LHD cars it eliminates some confusion between switching from RHD and LHD.
@ooglefluffg857
6 жыл бұрын
The dominant hand argument is actually how the trend for left hand drive cars started in America. In the early 20th century, the handbrake and gear lever were typically on the outside of the car, and passengers entered and exited on the passenger side. Most cars at the time were right-hand drive, meaning the driver steered with their left hand and passengers exited into traffic. When Henry Ford came up with the Model T, he logically reversed the layout and this quickly became the standard because of the car's popularity. Today, driving on the left with right-hand drive makes more logical sense. Steering is done with the dominant hand and the dominant eye is positioned closer to oncoming traffic. The evindence is unconclusive, but it's theorised that this is why countries with left-hand traffic have slightly lower accident rates.
My clutch does the same sound LoL
Could someone please oil the clutch?!
Should have gotten a bumper sticker saying "please be patient, American driver"

Once the R33 GTR 4 door is legal for the USA under the 25 year rule, I will be very interested for a daddy mobile:) They are very rare but that's OK, I'd be willing to play ball.

Wtf? Slip should do anything but help you slide, that's traction control, it comes on when it detects slippage in whichever wheel and tries to counter that

You got the light ass about... you got a green arrow. If you have a green arrow they have a red.. if there is no arrow you have to the same as what you said and give way to on coming traffic before turning across. Just so you don't get wiped out. The fact your mate didn't know that... is disturbing.

We have them in Massachusetts. I don't really see the benefit over a 4 way stop though. "Rotaries" (much larger circular roads with many exits, almost like a highway interchange) are much more useful... but also harder to navigate. Do you have those in NZ?
@spaqin
6 жыл бұрын
euro here, roundabouts are good for cities on low speed streets where you can't really choose which one should give way, but some idiots tend to put them on longer roads between cities and then you get 4 mile long jams.
