Drive with me to the Allotment plot and do a little bit.
This VLOG is a typical short visit to the allotment for me. Living so close I can nip whenever it's convenient.

Hi Craig nice vid and a couple of thoughts: get the extra glass for your greenhouse! The tomatoes etc will need protection from the chilly nights we are still having. (I'm further north than you but I know the weather is not great yet). The flowers you showed do look like onions gone to flower - put the flower heads in a paper bag and see if you can shake the seeds out. Will save you buying onion seeds for next year! Also, EVERYONE is complaining about the slugs/snails this year. It's a major problem so you might want to use some protection over your lettuce. Your plot is looking really good already!

6:32 these might be chives or onions - you may see their bulbs if they are small or large. Either way you can plant those bulbs somewhere. Chives look nice, pollinators love them and you can eat both chives themselves and the flowers. Onion flowers also loved by pollinators but I wouldn't eat them, rather bulbs 😁

Just a note I have kept a journal from day one 7th June 2014 noting everything down as I tend to forget what we have planted etc. and it is good to look back and read what we were doing on certain days, and to compare what we harvested year to year. perhaps an idea for yourself.

@@CraigsAllotment yes, you could divide and plant the chives as a border or just plant as a clump, if purple flowers normal chives, there is a white flowered one that is more a flatter leaf and smells like garlic.

Those onions that you asked about are Egyptian walking onions. Look them up on KZread. The bottom grow like shallots, when small the stems are spring onions then the flowers at the top when small bulbs are for pickling or next year's crop. Yes next year's bulbs grow at the crop of the stem then they fall over and bury themselves into the soil. Hence the name walking onions. From nz.
