My junk food of choice when I was drunk was pizza. I could down a whole large pepperoni pizza throughout the evening by myself. No joke. Nowadays I can't tolerate pizza. I gained alot of weight in my forties as I was trying to to deal with a divorce, my only child my son was I his first year of college, I had to go back to work to support myself. Add insult to injury, I went through menopause. Now that I have been sober 4 1/2 years, my weight is steadily coming off, I am eating healthier and my outlook on my life looks positive. Fortunately my Hepatologgists told me my liver cirrhosis is uncompromised as long as I remain sober. No desire to ever drink alcohol again. My head is clearer, more energy and at 65 I'm on a positive trajectory with my life family neighbors and friends. God is SO good.

LD. I’m glad you spoke on this topic. I think it’s important for people to understand what happens to your body. You look pretty healthy now to me and it’s hard to believe your weight dropped to 120. I have been reading that ethanol at any amount is not safe anymore . Some think just drinking beer vs whiskey or vodka is ok but alcohol is alcohol. They both can have serious consequences..saw a channel on you tube yesterday this man says he binge drinks to oblivion and has fallen and broken some facial bones. He said he is not an alcoholic. He says he just binge drinks since age 15. I believe he an alcoholic. And in denial. His face is pretty beat up . And he plans on quitting. I read that more intelligent ppl are more likely to binge drink and are white males under 35. Binge drinking vs alcoholism is a good topic to review because there are some differences ty for all you do. Being here for the community

Thanks for this. I have lost 10kg in just shy of 180 days doing nothing else except not drinking alcohol. The insomnia used to be an absolute hellscape for me - to the point that I actually used to dread going to bed. Now I love going to sleep lol. Our bodies are very clever and they find ways around things. Eg, I think of the brain like a see-saw. If you throw a load of depressant chemicals at it then it will try and tip the balance back by making stimulants. That is is why you wake up at 3am wired. As you say, your body wants the maximum energy for the least amount of effort and must prioritize the elimination of poison from the system. It will use the alcohol byproducts as 'fuel' but this comes at a cost of how it can process proper foods. There are no solutions, only tradeoffs as a very wise man once said. Thanks for these videos. Really helpful.

Thank you for sharing all this information LD. Very interesting indeed, your efforts with these posts are very much appreciated. Food is presently the highlight of my day, but I have done a bit of research and I am presently consuming a pretty healthy diet. However further research is required because I suspect eating the right stuff must make alcoholic recovery a smoother process, I want to get this right. My beer gut is a disgrace, it is obvious to anyone who knows anything about booze that I have abused it to extreme levels, it makes me feel extremely ashamed. You mentioned poor decisions....OMG.....Blush/Shudder. I am not even going there at the moment. Addiction is giving up everything for one thing. Recovery is giving up one thing for everything. End of day 7. (Approx 10000 empty calories not consumed). All the best every one.

My ex SIL died due to alcoholism when my granddaughter was not quite 9. He was mostly absent the last year due to his alcoholism. Just curious how your wife explained your disease to the your children and how you talk to them today about addiction issues, hereditary tendencies etc.

This is so interesting!! And sort of a relief!! I had read that you could lose weight from quitting alcohol, but I didn't fully understand why. I knew there were tons of empty calories, and I calculated how many I was talking in, too, and it was hundreds of extra calories. Depending on the day, over 1000. But when I first started drinking, I ate pretty healthy. Toward the end, I was making homemade Fettuccine Alfredo, homemade macaroni and cheese. I was eating pizza and burger King just whenever I wanted! I would only eat once a day, but I made it count lol since I quit drinking, my nutrition is SO much better, and I lost about 35 lbs (if not more). When I first started losing weight, I was a little scared because I hadn't really changed my diet yet. But I eventually plateued. Now I understand that it's because my metabolism changed as well as losing all those extra calories! Super sweet deal lol I hope everyone's having a great day! Great video, friend!! ❤️❤️❤️😊😊

@@Pellets7 thank you, Pellets!! There have been too many benefits to count that came from quitting drinking, but this one improved my life immediately and in so many ways. I remember the first time I woke up in the morning actually hungry for breakfast. I took it as a sign that I was gaining my health back and it inspired me to keep on making positive changes 😄 I hope you're having a great week so far! ❤️

@liverdisease-qb6rk I'm working my way toward getting rid of type 2 diabetes. I'm lucky I still have the choice, to be honest. I just happen to love the foods that don't try to hurt me. That's another lucky bit. I just never liked candy or desserts or even breads. Just some occasional dark chocolate and spaghetti 2 or 3 times a month.

Drinking definitely made me put on weight, especially beer. I was up to 240 myself at one point, but I'm a little bit taller (about 6'0). I wouldn't say I was a fat guy, maybe a little bit on the soggy side, but I have a fairly muscular frame. Still that was way too heavy and I felt uncomfortable. I noticed when I quit drinking I did lose a bunch of weight without even trying. Nothing wrong with that at all, just another added bonus of sobriety! God bless my friend! ❤

I am not an alcoholic by any means but I can totally understand what you're going through because my addiction is with food . And I'm dealing with beginnings of diabetes and possible Sirosis of the liver. Drop an extra large pizza down in front of me and I have to eat it until it's completely gone . When it comes to cheeseburgers I like 2 doubles extra large fry extra large Diet Coke . However on Friday night when I do go out with friends I consume up to 3 long island iced teas With dinner Other times it's up to 6 frozen margaritas. During the week I don't touch alcohol. Last Sunday I had my come to Jesus moment. And I have now changed what I am consuming As well as I am beginning to start fasting. The problem lies with what keeps us or me doing this kind of stuff to myself and how to Deal with it in the long term .any goal is Achievable in the short-term . I don't know where to look for the answer to this question.

Your livers job is to break down and eliminate poisons….ETOH is a poison…Jo in the digestive process it always cuts to the front of the line…which is good….but the energy ( calories) from the “ cheese fries “ get stored…it’s sort so amazing but pretty simple…
