Honestly though, they could have played Nickelback and the gameplay would STILL have my attention.

I remember applying to be a writer for this game, played an alpha it was fun. Glad to see it doing alright.

It looks like this game will hit a similar cadence, insofar as how it uses narrative, death, and upgrades.

I reviewed the demo of this a year ago and it's solid af. Tried and true dungeon crawling with unique graphics and a light adventure to go with. Recommended.

Mowing lawns, pulling weeds and trimming hedges within a dream as the landscape becomes increasingly unstable and shifts around constantly, sounds like a good idea for a game

This game looks brilliant, plus the music gives me goosebumps. I love it!

Really wish the in-game artstyle was more like the boxart. That said it does still look really good.

For a sec I was thinking this was gonna be an update to that underrated scarescrapdr mode to Luigi’s mansion 3 when seeing it on my notifications.

Just because something is randomly generated doesn't mean it's more replayable than something that is crafted. Just because something is linear and meticulously designed doesn't mean it's not replayable.

Fair enough, but if a game is too linear and has pretty much only one way to beat it then it can get old quick, especially if it's not too hard.

For me, Mo Astray is a great example of a linear game that is repayable. It has a set path but the platforming gets so darn good

There's more that goes into replayability than just random generation, that's why. Persona 5 is replayable for example, despite having almost no random generation in the entire game, outside of a single area. It's still replayable because you can make various decisions that impact what endings you get, decide who you will bond most with, and it has a highly customizable selection of battle units. It is designed to not be easy to complete with just 1 playthrough. On the other hand, randomly generated games like the OG No Man's Sky might not feel replayable since there is not enough variety to justify playing again. The most important factor in replayability is if future playthroughs can offer something new and exciting.

When I play Roguelikes, I like a satisfying sense of progression, where I'm regularly unlocking upgrades that make my character more powerful on future runs. I know this game has "real-world" upgrades that increase your power in the dungeons, but it's unclear to me whether they're impactful enough to be satisfying

It's better than the millions of retro style platformers that have been done to death or an artsy fartsy title with little to no gameplay.

@@amatmulisha2978 So been playing till now.. Graphics-wise it's just as good or even better in person.. The artstyle is really spot-on for this game. Performance wise you have an option for 30 fps mode or 60 fps mode.. Imo 60 fps mode blurs the image too much and you need.. stutters are almost non-existent so far in my playthru. Gameplay-wise I haven't went too far. (Just got to area 3) but there is a variety of combat options. 1. Melee attack (With combos that if you time correctly you can do bigger damage) 2. Ranged attacks (there are alot of choices in here from Bow to a freakin Laser beam 😂) 3. 2 magics (this is castable spells that have cooldowns but are powerful and will aid you in battle) 4. You can parry projectiles and block melee attacks which costs stamina (Lucid in this game ranged attacks use this too so you need to manage it since the regen is pretty slow) Enemy-type this I can't tell so much but design wise it can be pretty repetitive tho I only have access to 3 maps and encountered 2 reskins.. Tho you need to observe their attacks since theh can whack you big time if you're careless. Overall it's a pretty good game so far.. It's not a fast-paced game so comparing it to hades or dead cell will be pointless..

"Roguelike" seems like the only genre that can improve literally any existing game franchise that has anything to do with patterns. I've been waiting for CAPCOM to make a small RE spinoff that is pure oldschool RE fused with a Roguelike for years now.
