DISTANT MEMORIES - LIVE IN LONDON
Pre-order now, available 27 November 2020: dream-theater.lnk.to/DistantM...
Two-time GRAMMY-nominated and millions-selling progressive music titans Dream Theater are back with the latest live installment to their impressive thirty-one-year catalog of releases. Scheduled for release on November 27th, the band is set to unleash their ninth career live album Distant Memories - Live In London. Recorded at their sold-out show at the Apollo Theatre in London, the live release documents the band’s popular world tour in support of their latest critically acclaimed studio album Distance Over Time and the 20-year anniversary of their seminal concept album Metropolis Part 2 - Scenes From A Memory.
“Whether you had a chance to see this tour in person and want to relive what was hopefully an awesome concert experience or enjoying the performance on video for the first time, Distant Memories - Live In London very accurately and very beautifully captures the energy and excitement we all felt together at the Apollo this past February,” explains guitarist John Petrucci.
Distant Memories - Live In London is the band’s first since 2014’s Breaking the Fourth Wall. The new live release will be available in various configurations including digital only, a 3-CD and 2 DVD multibox, a 3-CD and 2 Blu-Ray digipak with slipcase, a limited deluxe 3-CD + 2 Blu-Ray + 2 DVD Artbook and a limited 4-LP and 3-CD box set. The video components will also feature a Behind The Scenes look at the band as they get ready for the shows.
The tracklisting for Distant Memories - Live In London is:
1. Untethered Angel
2. A Nightmare to Remember
3. Fall Into the Light
4. Barstool Warrior
5. In the Presence of Enemies - Part 1
6. Pale Blue Dot

@johnstitt2615 - I actually prefer the older material when I was performed between 2011 and 2023. I like the material released with Mangini more than anything else they released - unless it was a piece or passage (think Silent Man) without drums. I enjoy the "word choices" Mangini chooses to use. I enjoy the way he chooses to creatively embellish the music without stepping on the toes of his band mates. I love that I can hear JP, JR, and JM without having a bunch of unnecessary commentary. I can appreciate the very free spirit of the original / current, but the repetition, lack of detail and precision just doesn't work for my personal listening enjoyment. I didn't really fall in love with the band until I could really hear them, and that wasn't until 2011.

I don’t think they practice 6 hours a day like they used to, so they have to concentrate a little harder when playing shows. They still practice a lot and obviously know what they’re doing, it’s just probably not quite as second nature. And I wouldn’t expect that anyway. But I would love to see that kind of musical dedication again at SOME point (particularly out of JP) before the end of their careers.

Playing in a theater...they played here at TPAC in Nashville for this tour and everyone was standing. It's not weird to stand during a concert, but to me it seems weird to stand in a theater. There's nowhere to go. Would have preferred to sit to enjoy the show for the 3+ hours instead of standing in one place with an open theater seat directly behind me. Oh well. Was still an excellent show.

@@returntozero2112 I think it depends on the whole experience, saw this tour twice, the first time at Raleigh, NC. It was in a theater, everyone was sitting down for almost the entire show... the second time I saw it in Chile, in a sold out arena, front row jumping, singing through the entire concert. Both of them were good experiences, I just didn't see myself sitting in the second time or jumping in the first one, on a personal basis I'm more used to the second experience, as a latin it's just weird for me to see people sitting during concerts, here it only happened on an Animals as Leaders concert, besides that one, I've never seen a quiet crowd here in Chile. It doesn't mean it's better or worse, it's just different.

Mangini really elevated the whole structure of their songs, with this song and 'The Alien', I feel that Dream Theater reached that 'Rush' territory because it was mainly the drumming versatility which was lacking since Portnoy is way more predictable and his back of tricks is limited compared to Mangini, I wish Dream Theater kept both drummers like what King Crimson did weith Gavin Harrison and Pat, I attended their show and it was amazing
