DISTANT MEMORIES - LIVE IN LONDON
Pre-order now, available 27 November 2020: dream-theater.lnk.to/DistantM...
Two-time GRAMMY-nominated and millions-selling progressive music titans Dream Theater are back with the latest live installment to their impressive thirty-one-year catalog of releases. Scheduled for release on November 27th, the band is set to unleash their ninth career live album Distant Memories - Live In London. Recorded at their sold-out show at the Apollo Theatre in London, the live release documents the band’s popular world tour in support of their latest critically acclaimed studio album Distance Over Time and the 20-year anniversary of their seminal concept album Metropolis Part 2 - Scenes From A Memory.
“Whether you had a chance to see this tour in person and want to relive what was hopefully an awesome concert experience or enjoying the performance on video for the first time, Distant Memories - Live In London very accurately and very beautifully captures the energy and excitement we all felt together at the Apollo this past February,” explains guitarist John Petrucci.
Distant Memories - Live In London is the band’s first since 2014’s Breaking the Fourth Wall. The new live release will be available in various configurations including digital only, a 3-CD and 2 DVD multibox, a 3-CD and 2 Blu-Ray digipak with slipcase, a limited deluxe 3-CD + 2 Blu-Ray + 2 DVD Artbook and a limited 4-LP and 3-CD box set. I always prefer musicianship > showmanship. But man, I liked that fill on its own, but got completely bamboozled when Jordan had already switched to the Keytar... this is what makes live shows special, those small surprises :)

While the fill was a nice surprise, it would've been completely unnecessary had Jordan solo'ed on they keytar all the way through the instrumental section. Not like he couldn't, technique-wise, and not like his keytar doesn't have an expression controller on the handle. Also it would've made it a bad-ass duel-like thing with Petrucci. But oh well.

@@maximummatt73 maybe. Having gone to over 200 live shows of well known bands and over 1000 live shows in my life, being an amateur musician myself, I'd like to think I have a pretty good idea of what I am talking about. Also, as a DT fan of the 90s and 00s, having been privileged enough to see them live, once in every keyboardist era, I've always thought they seemed bored on stage and wished for more stage presence. That comment above about showmanship I stand by what I said and will respectfully agree to disagree, since it's your post and you're king of the castle. Drum fill was nice.

It really pays off to teach your ear how to listen for bass in music. Back when I was young, I missed every genius thing that Flea did in RHCP when he wasn't playing a lead role in the song. Now with DT and Haken, listening for the bass parts enhances the song so much. Bass is really an underappreciated instrument, especially considering how someone who knows what they're doing with it, like Myung, can change the song entirely.

Both are great, I prefer portnoy as a drummer, but I wouldn't complain at having Mangini either. Its sort of the Peyton Manning vs. Tom Brady argument, except their skillsets overlap more as drummers.
6:35 the smile on Mike's face seeing old Jordan do rockstar stance is hilarious XD
Best Band ever
3:05 Shoutout to Mangini for being able to adjust his goggles without missing a beat.
3:06 mike mangini is a BEAST
4:30 - Could Rudess be any tighter with his runs?! The man is just an incrediblely fluent player, the whole band is so tight here.

The whole band are amazing professionals. I love that they play the songs as close to the original recording. Most bands change the songs usually making them worse. 😆

Jordan is an awesome player, those tight runs are courtesy of his classical training. Having scaped a living as a keyboards player in a previous life, I sit in awe of this man's ability and he has become my new favourite keysman! 😎🎹
Wow! The bass is so clear. Bravo to the sound engineers.
How I wish they never die and keep making super music like this forever. Huge respect to this extraordinary band
