I love Urgl, it instantly became one of my favourite Pokemon, partly because of its name. Its so perfectly derpy.

Nathan: "Urgl makes me think of 'gurgle'" Bulbapedia: "Urgl is based on the words 'urks' (choking sound), 'Vogel' (bird) and 'gurgel' (gullet)" So hats off to Nathan for actually technically being correct right off the bat

I was thinking of Archeops or Archen because Urvogel is the German name of the Archaeopteryx and that sounded like a shortening of it

I was honestly so proud when Julia said "POV You are Alakazam." She made a Pokemon joke and it made sense and included an actual Pokemon name and everything!

I got a notification that someone replied to this, "why was that surprising 😂" but when I clicked on it the reply had already been deleted. I like to think it was someone new to the channel who replied to my comment partway through the episode, then got to Julia's turn, saw her Spheal, Machamp, and Shuckle pop up on screen, and said, "Oh. That's actually the reasoning behind the name, though. It's supposed to be either gurgling or "urks" (onomatopoeia for choking) + vogel (german for bird). It's name LITERALLY means that it's a bird that makes choking sounds.

There was a mathematician named Kline who invented a 4-dimensional object called a Kline Bottle. There is a company that makes 3D immersions of Kline Bottles out of glass (in mathematics a immersion is when you represent a N dimensional object in N - 1 dimensions, for example if you drew a picture of a sphere that would be a 2D immersion of the 3D sphere). The company makes a version of the Kline Bottle shaped like a drinking stine they call the *klinestine.*

Honestly, Pottrott might be the first Pokémon ever drawn on drawfee that actually looks like it could be a pokemon, not only the design but also the lore they gave it

Name Breakdown: Urgl - Cramorant - From "Urks", an onomatopeia for gagging, "gurgeln" which means to.. gargle and "Vogel" which just means bird. You just skip the e from that. Pottrott - Shuckle - From "Pott" (Which is an oldfashioned word for.. well a pot, though more in the sense of a clay pot or urn) or a Potpourri (you can probably guess to which english word this translates) and "verotten" which means well... to rot. Shuckle are used to make "berry juice" by giving them berries which will ferment in its hollow body. Flunkifer - Mawile - From "flunkern" which means to lie and "Kiefer" which means jaw, since its jaw is a lie. Its actually a horn. Kleinstein - Geodude - From "klein" which means small and "Stein" which means rock. Yeah...

German Pokemon names are so very literal sometimes, Flunkifer is an example, because Kiefer is the jaw and Kleinstein literally means small rock

the dislikes are people who won't stand this shuckle slander

I am in this weird limbo where I know some pokemon only in German, some only in English as I started following more English and less German pop culture as I got older and the newest generations I don't know at all because I am too poor to afford pokemon games or the appropriate consoles (yay to being a broke student)

Please do an episode of "I swear, it's not Skimbleshanks!" For each host, (accurately) describe a person or character that is not Skimbleshanks, but in a way that leads each artist to essentially draw Skimbleshanks.

I love how Julia can draw like a full human figure and then erase half of it just to put something more ridiculous

Some school sh*t: The U in Urgl is spelled not Like "you"[ju] it's only "U" in German. So if you don't spoke the "Yo". Pottrott is spelld right of you. The "o" is short because in German double t say that a,e,i,o,u is short. Flunkifer's name is based on the english name and is "Flunkern"="lies", and "Kiefer"="jaw Kleinstein only means "little stone" And yes Albert Einstein last name means "a stone"

as a German, knowing all of these Pokemon by heart, I love your interpretations waaaay more than the original. and don't worry about your pronounciation ^^ I'm halfway through and so far it's spot on :)

I never thought that Julia's "Poke-Men" would be boyfriend material, but oh my heck I have an instant crush on Kleinstein. Not even the slightest bit disappointed that he's not horrible. Dare I say... I'm *thirsty* for this man.

Actually, Kleinstein was the name of the doctor, Julia drew Klienstein’s monster

I forgot how much I love Kleinstein. Y'all should do an episode where you draw Robot Masters from memory. Drawfee and Mega Man could be like chocolate and peanut butter!

I like that Geodude is a small stone, and thus: "ein kleiner Stein" -> Kleinstein! Good pun work :D

Shuckle is perfect! That said, y’all should do an episode where you “improve” “bad” Pokémon designs

as a german kid, these names made total sense as a german adult I think the people who named them were totally high.

Fun fact: The thing with evolving Slowpoke by getting a Shelder to bite its tail can be done in Pokémon Snap!
