Dramatic Dresser Makeover from DRAB to High End Dupe! How to Glaze Furniture | Trash to Treasure
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This dresser & nightstand were drab with no style. The top and sides were scratched and gouged. I completely restyled it to look like a high end bedroom set from Nieman Marcus! In this video I will show you how to apply texture with glaze to furniture and paint it with chalk paint.
This chalk painted dresser and nightstand now look like furniture that sells for over $2500.

Beautiful transformation!!!! A quick tip when using glaze that I learned awhile back…seal your piece first and apply a clear coat of glaze before your colored glaze. If you don’t care for the look you can easily wash it off and start over. Love your videos, binge watching…new subscriber!

Hi Sara- that is what I always try to do. I think anyone can put a coat of paint on furniture and replace the old knobs but that is not what people want to buy! They want stylish furniture that is modern and trendy.

I painted the drawers white and then let it sit overnight so the paint could cure. THEN I did the open canyon glaze over the top. The following day I put the poly water based sealer over it all. Sorry if I did not make that clear. Glad you asked so I could clarify!
@FurnitureFlippingForProfit
2 жыл бұрын
The black glaze was just a test to see which glaze I wanted to use: water based, Poly based or valspar based. I did not apply the black glaze on the drawers.
Upon unboxing, I was immediately upset at how the rails were very noticeably bent. But I kept going, all tools needed to assemble were included kzread.infoUgkxqtX4Dxs6aecAZEuz6GY5-d81YecKCshn and I had it set up in about 30 minutes. Honestly I love this thing, make sure to read the measurements and measure your space so you know if it'll work for you. I bought this to put inside my closet, underneath where I hang my clothes and it is absolutely perfect! It is VERY sturdy and all drawers glide easily and mine are stuffed, and they are still flush when closed.
My apologies Cynthia but didn’t understand what you meant by allowing the paint to cure overnight. Thanks for your information.

Thanks for asking so I can clarify. Chalk paint needs to dry thoroughly. The companies refer to it as "curing" If a chalk paint has not "cured" then when you wipe it with a wet cloth, the paint comes off! Or if you wipe on a water based sealer, it comes off. This is referred to as "reactivating " the paint. HOWEVER, if the chalk paint is "cured" or thoroughly dry then when you wife it with a damp cloth it will NOT come off. In fact, I had painted some hinges white on a prior flip and I decided a week later that I did not like them painted. I thought I could just wet them and remove the paint but since it had cured I had to use paint stripped to get it off the metal. Chalk paint is very durable when it is cured. It sticks! That is one of the reasons I like to use it! I hope this answers your questions. Thanks for watching!
What do you mean by letting the chalk paint to cure?
@FurnitureFlippingForProfit
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Martha, Thanks for your question. Curing is the process where you allow the paint time to dry and become permanent. If you run a wet cloth over a piece of furniture that was painted with chalk paint BEFORE it is cured, since it is water based, the paint will become reactivated and will come off on the cloth. If the paint is cured then you would have to use paint stripper to take it off. Since the sealer and glaze are water based, if you tried to put it on before it was cured then the paint would come off because it was reactivated by the water in the sealer and glaze. Valspar water based glaze says you have to wait 3 days to apply but I know from experience I can get away with waiting 24 hours and then apply. The same with water base polyurethane sealer.... I wait 24 hours. I hope this answers your ? Please give this video a thumbs up!!! That tells youtube that you liked it and you think others would benefit from having it suggested to them. It helps my ratings a LOT!
I thought the original wood was quite beautiful. It looked like mahogany or cherry. I think painting furniture with chalk paint is too trendy.

Hi Walli. I agree 100%. I love stained wood. However, I am in the business of flipping furniture for profit and if I stained it: 1) it would have sold for less , 2) it would have taken more work and 3)it would have taken longer to sell because that is simply not what people want today. I look at high-end furniture store websites to determine what sells (Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, etc) I figure they know more than me since they do focus groups etc. If you go to their websites, almost everything they sell is painted. White painted furniture sells right now. Five years from now, I may be stripping the paint off furniture and staining it when that becomes popular again.
Paint doesn't make it better
