Hey you! 😄 And YES!!! Not to mention, I feel like there is more substance with camp Cretaceous. I've skipped along throughout the episodes and I get the feel they're going for, which is like camp Cretaceous, but something is missing and I think the reason why it feels off is because the original franchise was already animated. It already had an animation style and a tone of seriousness with a perfect balance of humor or lightheartedness. This just feels like a caricature parody of that animation. Had how to train your dragon been a live action, I think we would have been more forgiving. With this show, a lot of people can't help but compare the animation style and quality to that of the original.

I saw this and thought Nine Realms was on the same quality level as CNs Riders of Berk or even a non HTTYD Dreamworks show like Nicktoons’ Kung fu Panda, but I just checked and can confirm this is much worse.

Instead of this, they should’ve made a Hidden world documentary similar to National Geographic. Showing the life of dragons in the hidden world. Fans would’ve enjoyed that WAY more than this. With hiccup or perhaps Stoic since he’s dead and could break the 4th wall for plot if they made him a ghost.

If all the dragons were stuck underground all this time, wouldn't they have developed to have very small or no wings, thick claws for digging/catching food/ clinging to walls, and sensory organs to detect air/earth/water vibrations? HTTYD set a president that dragons follow the somewhat same evolutionary rules as every other living organism, so wouldn't the best survival traits for cave life be what these dragons evolve to have?

@@fjparasite1172 my theory is that it's either a natural chemical gas or liquid with some sort of natural ignition, like a bombardier beetle. This would make the fire very limited, and therefore they have to preserve it as a last defense instead of a light source.

Actually use to watch the shows before my younger siblings who were 15 and 11 at the time and I was 21 went to school, I think was around about the ages. Any how's the shows the like tv series... now.. the graphics aren't grrreeaatt.. but if you can get past it, the over all like world building we get from the main series tv shows(not Riders or what ever it was called) was pretty good. The shows were like between movies from what I gathered and such which kind of keeps it pretty in canon as you follow the story along, not to mention seeing the really cool different dragons we get. I actually was sad when we didn't get a few of the series chars in the movies. Dagger I thought was very interesting but kind of cool and he great on me more than Snoutlout. xD Any how's I'd say give the other series a watch if anything.. This... This looks like crap sorry. It's just eh.

I agree. It would be a lot cooler if the story revolved around a historian reading texts about either Hiccup, hiccup's kids, or another Berkian stumbling across the hidden world while traveling and exploring it, still resolving to keep it a secret. I would much rather watch that.

Imagine if dragons shed skin… Now imagine getting a full body sun born and your dragon keeps trying to munch the peeling skin off you, thinking you’re shedding and trying to help.

I kind of liked the design on the camouflaging dragon from the last couple episodes, but the rest of them just didn't do it for me. They didn't seem powerful or natural. Even though the two-headed one was kind of cool the design just felt pretty forced. They felt like a kid's dragon design: clunky and inorganic with elements that might have been cool on their own, but as a whole come together badly. And they were so bloody tame. At no point did I feel like the kids were in any real danger. Like, I know they're not going to really kill the kids, but an air of real menace, some more kick to those breath weapons, and some much closer close calls would have at least made the dragons feel like mighty beasts instead of amusement park mascots. That combined with the poor production quality, even compared to the How to Train Your Dragon series that preceded this, and so far the show's a thumbs-down for me.

Like you, I really really didn't like Thunder's design. They've turned the fury dragon from a beautiful feline creature into a poorly designed creature. I don't hate Thunder's design as much as I use to, but I still dislike it. If I had to choose between RTTE Toothless and Thunder's designs, I would definitely choose Toothless.

Honestly In my opinion they should’ve had it take place in the Medieval or Renaissance era, though I have a hunch it could be influenced by the success of Camp Cretaceous and Universal thought they could succeed again but with dragons. I guess the numbers and views isn’t going well for the show.

Ngl that would be neat. I was thinking of a medieval setting with a dragon hunter protagonist with a backstory similar to the buster blader archetype from Yugioh. This could show another side to the hunters where their not all bad and sometimes they are needed to deal with some irredeemably hostile dragons like the red death from the first movie.

"What Is Dead may Never Die, But Rises Again Harder and Stronger" does _not_ apply here. They should have left HTTYD well enough alone.

I would like it better if a young hunter went out deer hunting and found the dragon eating their kill. They would go to shoot the dragon trying to save what is left. But after an intense stare off, the hunter sees that the kill is mostly consumed. Then let’s the dragon take the rest of the kill as there is no point.

That would be an interesting take. It would likely have to be rated mature though so thatd scare producers because they kids wont see It. However It would be very good over this show; the dragon would start stalking the hunter to get more prey and that would make the Hunter progressively more pissed off until he decides to confront It. After an event, they would agree to Hunt together since the dragon would know where to find food and the Hunter can trick Prey into coming out (using traps), this cooperation would be how their relation progresses. Maybe as the dragon is flying on the Air the Hunter stares longingly at the creature fly wishing to know how itd feel and after some more events the dragon lets him ride him unprompted. A good thing about the original movie was that It followed some logical points: Hiccup spared the dragon, took pity on the dragon and tried to help him. Since Toothless was initially spared, he didnt hurt Hiccup at first, and that allowed Hiccup the chance to start helping Toothless, moving the dragon's view from mostly hostile to more weary and confused. It follows a logical progression of how It would sprout trust.

This sets a precedent for the dragon to understand this group is aggressive, and that bullets HURT, though it probably already figured out guns (or bows or whatever) are a killing tool- though maybe it would see them as a breath weapon of some kind? Perhaps the group brings the original guy on the next trip, and the dragon is stalking them the whole time, bc "oh crap oh crap hunting partner is surrounded and outnumbered and they're gonna kill him aren't they?! Hunting partner doesn't have wings or a breath ability to help them escape!!! IT'S UP TO ME!" Maybe this dragon has smoke/fog breath

14:00 is a prime example of how an animated show's artstyle is not supposed to look when you freeze frame on any given shot. That literally looks like it has been poorly photoshopped together from a wild array of different sources. The kids, the drone, the background, the sheep and arguably the sheep's bare skin look like they are all seperate images cobbled together. Even the tufts of fur on the sheep's back seem a bit like they are copy pasted around from its main body. I know, that isn't how this is made, of course, but it just goes to show how incongruous the entire artstyle of this show is... yikes

The black part of Thunder reminds me of the skin of Godzilla or asphalt. Definitely don't like that the "scales" cover the eyelids, so it looks irritating or uncomfortable for the dragon to close it's eyes/blink. It would have been really nice to see the main characters dragon be something other than a Fury; like a Raincutter, Hobblegrunt, or Snifflehunch. Something that is canonically friendlier and easier to tame. Overall, Thunder isn't too terrible of a design, but I am highly concerned about his genealogy. He is a Nightlight, after all, and the only Nightlights we're aware of currently are the children of Toothless and the Nameless Light Fury. I just... have a bad feeling.

Remember when I said it may be an interesting look into the affects Dragons have on the real world or a cash grab? I am leaning on the latter now.

They should have had hiccups children and the baby dragons the new movie and keep how they looked before

After sharing the original series and the movies with my grandfather, we were apprehensive about checking this out. It's only six episodes, and honestly, I was surprised. Tom, as a protagonist, kept surprising me. Not only did it seem like he was an _undiscovered natural_ for the role he's found himself in, but it's like he's a normalizing element to the others, making _them_ more bearable. Besides that, after having finished the initial set of episodes, it hit me. Gothi was a munchkin, too, and she was full viking. I had some initial gripes, and while, yeah, I have to cop to what the show _is,_ it has potential, and by the sixth episode, I'd say it found some footing. While I may hate modern & futuristic stuff, I think I'll be keeping an eye on this series.

That art style is.....I have no words.

Also I think Thunder the dragon is more of Skrill Fury, I mean if you match the resemblance, the nose that sticks out, the spikes on it's wings, the spike on it's tail, the big round belly that comes out more and not to mention it's ability to use lightning as a power instead of plasma blast. I think it should be a whole new species call the Thunder Fury or something.

Alteori would have a field day with the other dragons in this series, also pretty sure since whatever possessed them to set it in modern day, the character who the flat head coach guy misses that's actually a character trait, and I watched this all 6 episodes that are available online and so far we have a stoic the vast, gober and hiccup stand in as polar bear enclosure dude, a I wanna say stereotypical afro-american veterinarian, if I remember correctly she's chinese (tho in my opinion she looks generically asian tho that might just be the art style), and tech support with a fear of going outside because a dog bit her one time. The main thing I don’t like about TNR is that disconnects HTTYD from our universe and isolates it in its own. The WHOLE POINT of the ending of THW was to take the world of HTTYD and link it to ours. Of course, everyone still knows HTTYD is fiction, but it was an incredibly nice way to end the series and also gave long time fans some closure. Putting TNR in modern day completely dismisses all of that.

One critique on the show I have to say is the design of the dragons. Most of the designs from the series have designs that remind me of other animals, making us relate to them more. But most of the dragons here aren't too inspired.

1:43. Ok to give the show some space. We barely know about great white sharks lives despite all of the tech we have. A few people try to tag a few great whites but will usually lost the single within a hour. As far I remember, we actually don't know what happened to those tag sharks. Now given that the dragons are probably more intelligent than the average great white. I can see them hiding away from humanity that long. Plus, they can easily added in a secret organization similar to the templar, assassin creed, ect. To protect the hidden world and made a narrative of dragons don't exist. I wouldn't be surprised if hiccup started that organization in the first. Just my two cents.

I loved the introvert rage coming from you as it let me know that I’m not the only one who gets furious when someone starts touching my stuff. One time at school I was showing my friend one of my sketches of a dragon, and they proceeded to just start smudging it. Let’s just say that that was the hardest I’ve slapped anyone in a while hehe.

The eyes are supposed to be in the middle of the face? The original HTTYD followed this rule pretty well, but the eyes on some of the characters are near where the hairline would be on others, it's just kinda uncanny.

In Camp Cretaceous the humans look a little weird, but the dino's look great, Dragons: Nine Realms has worse looking humans and slightly better dragons.

Overall, i rather enjoyed the series, though i think the biggest problem was they tried to cram too much into what they call season 1. Feels like things should've been drawn out further. It really seems like only half or less of a full season with no indication other then 2022 for when the next part will be released. As for the story being told, hopefully things will be better explained if we ever get more episodes. Also there are hints that the MC may actually be connected to Hiccup, if not a possible descendant

It's strongly hinted that Tom is at least a descendent from the Hooligan tribe (he has one of their helmets, I don't think it's hiccup's as the horns are too large, and it's not Stoick's, but it has the Berk crest on it), and he and his mother did say they were descended from Vikings. And yes, i agree, the show felt a bit rushed, but that's the problem with shows these days that only have 5 or so episodes per season, that's not a lot of time. If it had been 10 or so, that would have allowed them to spread it out a bit more, but i do really like the premise (and i sadly seem to be in the minority here). As i said in my own comment on this video, I've always wanted to see what HTTYD would look like set in the modern era (I've read a few fanfictions that tried to tackle that, but they were all AUs that put the main HTTYD cast in the modern era). And the new dragon designs are pretty cool as well.

The show feels like the first episode of Power Rangers. The Riders get to know their dragons, beat a villain with almost no effort & vow to protect dragons. I hope season 2 ramps up the pacing, or is longer.

I think the hole dragons and humans not fearing each over makes alot of sense since the territorial dragons are still territorial and over a genuine threat, I would say the kids are riding more like getting a pigy back ride, the kids no nothing of dragons and the dragons of humans which explains the friendliness of the dragons, they have no reason to fear humans. To summarise my opinion the style can use some polish, the story has a genuine promise with if humans are ready for dragons/ the mystery aspect of the mc family connection to the dragons and the characts being only surfes level characters since we haven't gotten any further progression because of the few episodes. But to me they are like able and just need a lil time to grow.

I refuse to think that this show is cannon. It can be cannon to that other show that's like a Paw Patrol version of How to train your Dragon. But not the original movies and books.

Alteori, you are perfectly fine with your reaction to June's intervention into Tom's space and stuff. That would piss me off, too!

after watching all 6 episodes it fine nothing too amazing though I have to be honest I liked the other dragons' design more than Thunder's my favorite was Feather, though we don't get to see her until the 5th episode which makes me wish the kids all "train their dragon" in one episode instead the whole everyone gets trainer and dragon their own episode so we can see the dragons more. the season left on a cliffhanger I mean the whole plot of the episode was done with and defeated the "villain" and save the day but ooh mystery stay tuned for the season 2 type deal. it not really a mystery everyone already guessed the big twist

@@Alteori the only reason I kept watching was to see the new dragons

When it comes to the pattern of black and white scales on the dragon, I kinda love it! Especially the little bit on his snout looking like a little thunderbolt! It's cute! But when it comes to the rest of the dragon... well, not so much. It looks like it's made of sandpaper, and the wing situation makes no sense. Why get rid of so much of the wing membrane stuff? Just that tiny amount won't allow the dragon to take off, much less maintain flight. It looks more cartoony and simple, and that's honestly really bugging me. And the tail fins that come directly after the wings look stiff and made of plastic. I like the tail fan design, as it reminds me of a shark's fin, which is now making me wish it looked more like an orca and liked playing in water. Maybe it does like water and I just don't know because I don't know where to access this show, but getting back on topic, this dragon overall just doesn't look as believable or sleek as it's ancestors. Maybe there was some breeding down the like with a Sand Wraith (maybe even a Skrill if you wanna explain the weird purple electricity thing, but that would have to be really really far down the line I imagine).

Tbh this would be better or torilable if they brought back old dragons instead od making new ones would have also been better id they made the dragons smooth with some scaly parts like beffore

Honestly I really think it would be better if they used hiccups and astrids children once they where of age they went in search of dragons and maybe the night lights wanted to escape the hidden world and they found eachother on the way and went to find new dragon species i think that would be cool 😎

I thought that the opening to the hidden world was in the middle of the ocean. Maybe it’s a different entrance that didn’t exist before

@@tysondenugget8269 she reviewed the first episode of Lower Decks and hated it, but believe me the rest of the season does well, especially after season 2, usually the case for Star Trek the first season is not all that great as for most shows its not until after season 2 they get their act together, unlike Discovery that seems to get a free pass on everything

You can tell the modles are rushed, seriously I'm sick and tried of company's doing this just to hit the nostalgia and get there money.

It's really gross how they're turning cartoons, especially family-oriented shows and movies, solely into garbage you plop your dumb child to so the parents can sip whine and be lazy.

I actually like the concept of the Hidden World being rediscovered 1,300 years later. I mean, it's a place on Earth. And humans exist. It isn't going to stay hidden forever. One of my biggest gripes about the show, however, isn't about character design or the human cast. It's more about the implications of a "Night-Light Tribe" existing somewhere. This would imply two things. One being a *LOT* of inbreeding on Toothless's part (which most likely isn't the case) *OR* the whole "Grimmel killed 99% of the Night Fury species" claim has been officially retconned, Toothless actually wasn't the last Night Fury, and Night Fury/Light Fury interspecial breeding is relatively commonplace (which doesn't make a lot of sense either, but I'd tolerate this theory more so than the inbreeding theory.)

The animation could be better, but I don't have a problem with the designs of the characters. Jun's mom, Angelo's dad, they look like they fit in the HTTYD's world. You think Stoic, Gobber or the Twin's look natural?

The dragon looks like that because it’s inbread😭

they're doing it where they introduce the Kid's dragons one episode at a time, which is fine if they had more episodes besides 6 maybe if they had 12 episodes or even 10 that be fine but with only 6 episodes feels like a waste or time, perhaps they wanted each dragon to get their own episode,

Anyone else notice the mom's hair bugin out around 7:25

I just realized... This show is Doom 3 with dragons. I might as well explain. Doom 1 and 2 didn't really have much of a plot, they were pretty much only "Demons have crawled out of hell, here have this gun, have fun". Doom 3 was basically designed as a remake of the original game. It starts with the player arriving in a Martian city established by an advanced corporation. Something strange happening is revealed, then the demons start breaking loose.

The fur on the sheep isn't even attached to the sheep model. If you look close enough, it's literally just a 2D image attached to the drone being dragged across whenever they try tugging out the drone.

To me it’s the Star Wars Rebels of the Httyd franchise, a step down to previous content but some ok moments, I hope maybe it gets better, maybe I’ll at least stick around until I think it gets real bad. Plus I feel obligated I’ve watched every piece of content this franchise has made from the original movie to the Netflix show and both Christmas specials

@@crcoghill When you go from Clone Wars a step down doesn't mean bad, it means not S Tier.

I've got a little theory here We know that dragons usually have more than one offspring at a time yet thunder is all alone but in earlier videos you said that the possibility of multiple hidden worlds exist so what if thunder did something bad like killed a dragon or his big brother was a terrible king and thunder tried to stand up to him but lost and because of that he got exiled and he found a different hidden world with different adapted species of dragons because if you watch further into the series you will see that the hidden world they find looks a lot different than the one in the 3rd movie and there are a lot of similarities between the dragons from this hidden world and the dragons in the original httyd

The segment from 9:36 to 13:30 totally cracked me up! I mean completely! I totally lost it & had to stop the video for several minutes to recover from laughing! (My sides still hurt!) Man, I haven't laughed that hard in weeks! (And after the past week I've had in particular, it was a much-needed & very-welcome laugh, too!) Man O man am I glad I'm a subscriber to this channel! 🤣

@@Alteori I know exactly how you feel. I react the exact same way myself whenever I see a character in a movie or TV show do something really irritating that just rubs me the wrong way. I felt the same way about the girl character (whose name I forget) in the "Mr Peabody" movie. I spent half the movie wishing somebody'd just dunk her in the Nile or something & forget about her...

12:42 I feel like we'll be seeing the fox with some tech soon XD. Ok a bit of the background from my own experience. That kind of behavior is pretty common to see kids do when they are outside of their homland and know their parents aren't around. It's just different in both in culture and the personality the kid has. Granted I agree with Alteori here. It's annoying, especially if you have something that's meaningful to you.

and also i noticed how the mom looks like one of the twins (is she their descendant)?

Can we talk about how they completely rehashed the bonding scene from HTTYD? It's the same scene, retold, with modern stuff

Maybe they were going for a badass look but the fury is just.. Not fun to look at. I mean, I get it New series, new stuff to add- but my favorite part about httyd was how god damm cute toothless was and how badass he can be at the same time, Maybe if the scales didnt run up his nose in white like that, but the minute I saw how the dragon looked I noped out, that abomination love child is not fun to look at and doesn't even look cool either, he just looks nasty. They really should have just used one of Toothlesses direct firstborns and made the movie around them in the Viking times instead, I would have watched it But the designer for this ugly ass salamander deserves to get fired.
